Just wanna make sure i got this right cuz I'm an idiot when it comes to these things... Credit for the Dow goes to the current president, unless it's going up and then it can be credited back to the previous president... And the economy never gets credited to the current president, he didn't build that... Unless things go bad and then he did build that?

Actually I think any Prez shouldn't get a lot of credit for it going up at least in the moment. It's more of a slow burn log term thing, especially sustained growth. They can get credit though for short term decline (as can the fed chair etc.) for their actions and comments. I suppose short term increases could also be in that bucket but my eyes see it less often. More often than not in these conversations though folks are either being disingenuous or seeing what they want to see.... on both sides...both sides.

I just wish I was rich and had some warning when tariffs (taxes to be paid by Americans) are going to be threatened or used. It would fun to pop out of the markets and pop back in a week or three later and a lower value to enjoy the recoup and the long term growth.

so....people who didn't give credit to previous POTUS who were in office when the DOW went up, overall, during their terms (read Obama, or Clinton) .....now say Trump deserves credit for the current DOW numbers....

note that Obama and Clinton outperformed their predecessors by a huge margin....and that the DOW historically seems to do better when a DEM is POTUS...

butt Trump...alt facts...fake news

gotcha....

edit: as someone left of center, invested in the market, I am happy when the Dow goes up...thanks Trump, but it woulda been nice to get the same tax cuts you gave to corporations and the wealthiest class...

Tough day today for DOW...back to where it was in early Feb. 2019...

unlike some other POTUS, it is possible to track how his decisions affect the markets...this latest plunge is directly related to new tariffs Trump put on China, which will result in some as yet unknown retaliation and escalation of trade war with China...

even Trump's top economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, had a hard time defending this decision on FOX News
