I hadn't heard about this till a few minutes ago....

If I was a sailor on an Aircraft carrier...the last place I'd want to serve is in the Arabian Sea...let alone that little bath tub called the Persian Gulf.

No way in hell should we put a carrier in the Persian Gulf...that's like shooting fish in a barrel...

Especially if IRAN gets some Russian super sonic missiles...no way to stop them, that I know of...( I could be wrong, I'm not an expert...

MACS prolly knows about the navy's capabilities and what worries a carrier captain the most.

Freakin jimmy carter really screwed up canceling our NEUTRON NUCELAR BOMB PROGRAM...IRAN HAS WAY TO MANY NEEDED RESOURCES TO USE "NORMAL NUKES"...

U.S. NEUTRON CAPABILITIES WOULD "NIP THIS CRAP IN THE BUD" REAL QUICK IF the Ayatollahs keep bombing merchant vessels.

I’d be more worried about the Russian electronic jamming tech which they’ve already hit us with twice.

MIC business is good if you know where to put your money and what skids to grease/railroad

it was just a matter of time before something suspicious happened in the ME which points a finger at Iran...

when Trump appointed John Bolton to head up national security, I wondered how long it would take Bolton to push the US and some ME allies into a confrontation with Iran...I hope that cooler heads will prevail, but this may not end well...

Bolton is part of the group of neo-cons who convinced GWB that a war in Iraq would solve our ME problems (increased security for Israel, reliable flow of oil from ME due to more pro-west states, neutralize Iran's nuclear capacity)

Yup. Don't see a good outcome here.

Guess it's time to move some money into Raytheon

war is not the answer, Ron... this is not a last resort situation where war would be justified...you want to give up a son or daughter to force Iran to behave?

sanctions were having an effect, we were close to having the Iranian people overthrow the ayatollahs a few years ago...we should have patience, and let that happen...without the loss of American blood....

Anyone seen pictures or corroborated reports on this?
Four ships blowed up (simultaneously?) at a friendly port and there are still no details five days later?
No casualties. No spillage of oil or any other chemicals....no claims of responsibility....no damage assessment reports.....
Fuj used to be a routine stop for US ships -- may still be --- if so, we have presence enough to assist with security and surveillance, as well as report, investigate, etc.
Publicly available satellite images show now smoke, fire, etc.
AP has essentially retracted their reporting on this because they said there was zero corroboration.

Remember the Maine? Or the Maddox? Not even hinting that US is responsible...but that foggy reports of attacks on ships aren't new and should be subject of close scrutiny

One of the more interesting aspects, to me, of the 'Iran problem', is the New Middle East Relationship structure --- for most of my life it was Israel vs. Arabs, with Jordan and UAE...sort of the outside oddballs....and a strategic US association with Saudi/Bahrain. This newish triumvirate of Israel/Saudi/UAE vs. Iran is kinda fascinating

the US should not be the useful idiots or enforcers to the new Triumvirate....

for those who think Iran will be easy..."Mission Accomplished"

Carriers don't go anywhere without "escorts". I.E. - guided missile cruisers and destroyers. They ensure nothing gets near the carrier.

Those planes they carry? Yeah... fully armed to destroy any "ship" Iran has... from far away.

And we always have carriers "forward deployed" on both coasts. 24/7/365 there is a US Carrier at sea.
