Don Q

In anticipation for today's bbq I bought a bottle of white rum to make mojitos with. I find it to be much better than any Barcardi product and the price is right. Homemade simple syrup and fresh mint makes the mojito pretty tasty.

Pampero Anniversario…
the one in the tan leather sack.

Great sipper, neat of course.

another great rum...
Dos Maderas 5 + 5

suggested to me by the MIA brother pdxstogieman (Chuck)
originates in either Guyana or Barbados and then goes to Jerez, Spain for more barrel aging.

also make a 5 + 10 but I have never seen it.

Not a head snapper Jamie, but maybe just enough heat to keep you interested.

He made me look like president of the Karl Rove fan club.
I do miss him though.

that rum might be a touch too sweet for ya, but it's a great one for me.

Cher was on Kimmel last night!

Re: Rum
Kohana Hawaiian Agricole Rum.

I'm gonna have to garner some constraint and apportion this high end beautiful nectar to make it last.
Not for beginners. Not that it's too powerful or anything, but this is stuff you learn to "get". It could take your breath away...and the bottle is a stunning decanter that I will repurpose once empty.

Great find Conan, truly appreciating the experience.

Plantation "Xamaca Special Dry"...43% abv.

another interesting offering from this group. 21 clams, well worth it if you want a neat sipper that isn't Zaya style sweet. Dry and no heat.

Hey Jamie, are you looking for a litre of the 69% overproof?
I think I have a steady source.

Panama...no?
Had it a couple of years ago and recall liking it...possibly not the elitist version my friend Allen drinks.

Life is to short to drink bad booze. I normally dislike rum. This on the other hand is a WOW to me. Well worth $50 for a fifth. It is from Panama.

Neat, and a few drops of water. I enjoyed it both ways. I think it was better opened up with the drops.

No haven’t tried the rum yet.

As far as the Rumble, I’m not sure either. Some say rum, some say whiskey, some say a spirit all its own.

Smith and Cross traditional Jamaican rum. Decent ester funk but the over proof has a bit of the mass produced nail polish taste. Still a good one, but nowhere near Lost Spirits Navy or the long gone Plantation 2001 Jamaican rum

used to see 2, maybe 3 offerings from Lost Spirits. gonna have to look again.

had been a long time, I've drifted from the sweet rums, so I picked up a bottle of Zaya recently...just not enjoying it like I did years ago.

found myself in a Trader Joe's that carries booze. Took a flyer on a bottle of $8 rum...Rum of the Gods.
had 3 or 4 fingers wif a smoke, and as expected found it pleasant enough but light, more suited as a mixer which is not normally what I do with rum.

so I mixed the next one with Plantation overproof, and now I'm drinking rum.

Real McCoy 12yr 80pf was on sale for $20 bucks in the closeout section at my local. Bought one, went home had first glass. Next day bought the other 2 on the shelf. I wish it were higher proof, but this stuff is good. For the money, it might be the best value in spirits I've found yet. There are limited/special edition releases from Real McCoy that have higher proof. I'm going to keep any eye out. Real McCoy is made in Barbados by Foursquare. They also make doorly's. I think I'm in love with RIchard Seale and Foursquare products.

Has anyone else had any from the foursquare line? Any reccomendations for similar, no added coloring or sugar rums? Preferably cask strenght?

And lastly.... anyone that has a local liquor store carrying Hamilton St. Lucia Ministry of Rum and Caribbean Spirits, apparently this stuff has just recently been discontinued. St Lucia distillers group has stopped selling to this independnt bottler and it maybe years before this stuff makes it back to the US. Buy buy buy! Heading up to indy to snag a few bottles I hope on Tuesday.

FIFY

I don’t know, just smoked like a rum kind of evening. Sometimes I drink vodka, too. And occasionally bourbon. Prolly back on the scotch this week.
