Gonna use this to hold myself accountable. 6 weeks in. Only unprocessed food, portion control, balanced meals. 15,000 steps a day. Started at 265, down to 244. My goal is 1 to three pounds per week. My long term goal is under 200 lb. Anyone else wants to join in feel free.

Just dropped from 270 to 250ish 30 days low carbing.Yesterday I went back to my preferred diet...….unprocessed/whole foods, fresh fruits/veggies and absolutely zero high fructose corn syrup.I run a plant scattered over 4-5 acres so I get my walking in just unsure how much.If I lose weight great and if I don't 250 works for me......I just do not want to gain.

Good luck

I had already started about two months ago. Not going to say my weight now but I am down about 20 lbs... Started in upper 100s.

My downside is starch... Which turns into sugar... And the wines I like have sugar obviously. I do good with everything else. Not big on junk food or candies. It is my addiction to the carbs and also my obsession with Dr.Pepper. I tried to cut out ALL sodas and do water only.

Stick to whole grains, your body metabolizes them much more slowly so you don't get that sugar shock simple carbs provide.I'm not into junk food and candy either....that stuff is pure kryptonite for most if not all of us.I love fresh fruit and try to limit myself to 2-3 fruit servings per day...…..I could easily do a half dozen or more.I too love Dr Pepper but haven't had one in months.

I have to say that I should pay more attention to what I eat and my health as I get older but I am lazy in that department. The one thing I have going for me is that I work outside and I can't eat much in the heat, so the summer months I drop back to a more healthy weight (although the beer gut stays for the most part) but I put that weight back on every winter. I'd like to find a way to stay around 170-175 year round. I drink pretty much only water for years now but a coffee every morning. Not sure I can cut that coffee out of my diet without making life miserable for my daughter in the morning commute.

I guess cutting stouts out of my winter diet would help, but I would be kidding myself if I said that was going to happen.

I have also cut most dairy out of my diet. Most it is garbage also.

My thing is that I don't necessarily have a thing for sugar or a sugar shock.. But I am in love with stuff like pasta and potatoes and rice... general starch... Which turns into sugar. Maybe I can eat more whole grain carbs.

CL, what Z is saying is that whole grains convert much slower than processed grains. So you will have less weight gain. Even though it doesn't exactly relate, read up on glycemic index and glycemic load. So brown rice or wild rice are much better choices.

We used to have a topic here where we were trying to lose weight. MACs, Delta, myself and others with Wheel popping in from time to time calling us fatties. I think we stopped posting because no one was losing weight. I wonder how much I gained since then. Spey and I weigh about the same right now.

Started doing no carbs about a month ago, down 22 lbs so far. I need to start working on my cardio, shooting for 10,000 steps a day. Luckily I am not a beer drinker, and I only drink water or Crystal Light. I was shooting for 5 lbs a week, but be happy with 3 lbs. Let you know in a month how I am doing.

I also started a couple months back. Was at 218...now around 196. It is nice when you are able to fit the majority of your clothes.

I weighed 235 last May I weigh 195 now I got a fitbit and started running and TRYING to eat right . I want to see 180 I set 5 lb goals on my fitbit. Its a good feeling when you put your clothes on and they are loose or falling off then you know you have done something. The main reason I am doing this is to get back in better shape and hopefully get off blood pressure meds which they just had to lower my prescription way down .

I came up with a foolproof diet that got me to lose 20 pounds. I call it the beer and ice cream diet. If you get hungry have a beer or eat some ice cream to stop the craving for food. You get a healthy blend of protein, carbs and sugars to sustain you while you lose weight. This usually was beer and ice cream for the evening meal and skipping lunch but it works fast. Eat a normal breakfast. After you have lost your target weight, start eating small portion dinners and replace the ice cream with bourbon. I call that the maintenance diet.

I challenge anyone to try it!!

I eat anything I want.

Moderation is the key...

As long as you can move and do physical work you can stay in shape...

Just eat less, smaller portions.....but don't go overboard on junk food...

True, Jonsey, but portion control is a battle for me. I'm doing it, but I am often hungry.

So this is what a day looks like right now eating wise.

Breakfast. 1/2 hour before eating 8 ounces of water. At breakfast 1 Boost Glucose Control drink.

Lunch. 1/2 hour before eating 8 ounces of water. At lunch 1 cup of salad greens, 3/4 cup of grape tomatoes, 1/2 of an English cucumber, 1 small raw zucchini, 1 cup raw green beans, 4 tablespoons of no salt, no sugar salad dressing.

Dinner. 1/2 hour before eating 8 ounces of water. At dinner 1 cup of salad greens, 3/4 cup of carrots, 1/2 cup of grape tomatoes, 1/2 cup of strawberries, 1 cup of raw green beans, 4 ones of chicken, 4 tablespoons of of no salt, no sugar salad dressing.

Snack between breakfast and lunch. 1/2 hour before eating 8 ounces of water. At snack 1 small apple, 1/2 cup of blueberries.

Snack between lunch and dinner. 1/2 hour before eating snack 8 ounces of water. At snack 1 small pear, 1/2 cup of blackberries.

Snack between dinner and bed. 1/2 hour before snack 8 ounces of water. At Snack 1 small apple, 1/2 cup of tart cherries.

Sounds like plenty, right? But I often am hungry.

My first goal weight is 220 lb. A fair start for someone 6' 4" and 59. Today I was 243.

Out here on Kwajalein, we have a nasty phenomenon called the Kwaj Krud.

I had it real bad the first week of May. I was down hard for about 3 days, but I made it to work on the third day. Then it lingered for about 10 days.

Usually, that only happens once or twice a year. But... here it is June and I got it again!! Good thing I have multiple lungs, since I've hacked up about 3 of them so far!

Anyway, back in April I was weighing in around 190. This morning I was down to 179!

Not really a good way to lose weight though!

d'oh!

at 191 today...goal is to get down to 185 and stay there awhile, before going lower...185 by end of July should be doable, if I can be disciplined with portion control during barbecue season...

with daughter and her family living next door and my wife and I babysitting their two young daughters daily, there are a lot of empty calorie processed foods around...bad for blood sugar and for weight loss....gotta wean them off junk and select healthier foods...

Al, have a good assortment of lettuce, fresh vegetables, and fresh fruit around the house. Also, chicken, Turkey, pork, and beef. The above will get you off the processed food train. It will also get you off of the salt train, and the sugar train. Portion control is a biotch, The water before meals and snacks helps some. For me regular coffee is the best appetite suppressant. Though I don't drink much due to my heart. Also, if you like Basalmic vinegarette, Amy's is very low in salt and sugar. Otherwise I make my own dressings.

I lost about 40 pounds without exercise, over about 2-3 years by changing my diet and instituting reasonable portion control. But, what I think works the best (for me) is to stop eating before I feel full, as opposed to eating until I am full.
