Anyone have a large humidor say 400 count they might want to sell or trade for. My 3 boxes are FULL. It would be nice to consolidate down to just 1 or 2. I don't mind a ding or scratch as long as the seal is good. Thx.

I can sell you a 2-3000 count massive cabinet, but you’d have to come down to Alabama.

Looks good for the price, (which makes me question the quality), and also, I don't see room for "boxes".
Here's the one I got YEARS ago, and it has served me well . . . Of course, it's 5X the price.

It's 15 x 11 x 19. That's not very big, maybe it will hold 400 petite coronas.

Also, that fold down front looks to possess great potential for a massive air leak.

cheaphumidors.com

despite the name, the quality is outstanding, as is the service....or at least they were great a few years ago

Thanks I thought about that. Which is why I posted it. Jespear also hit on something I always forget to keep in mind. Storage for boxes. Although I always wondered about storing boxes, do you have to throw a little boveda into the box or does enough air/humidity get into the box anyway? Maybe you don't close the box all the way? But then again cigars are stored in boxes all the time at shpo's etc so maybe they aren't as air tight as they seem to be? Oh well the search continue's. Thanks for the advice all!

I bought a few of these years ago instead of more coolers- I use in conjunction with 1lb. of Heartfelt beads in each. RH stays steady. Mine sit in a temp. stable basement with no issues... YMMV.

If I may make a suggestion - I’ve got a winidor and a mini-fridge “frigidor” that I use for boxes. Very rudimentary setup without cedar shelves or anything. I use beads and boveda for humidity. I might have to spritz the beads or put a couple of bovedas in once or twice a year. Obviously, I live in a somewhat humid environment, which helps. Both have been in use for a few years, store adequately in my closet and I’ve been very pleased. I’ve got 2 nice desktops, but, at this point I’m looking for function over form.

Also an option, it is very simple to plug a PID controller into a refridgerator, then you can set the temp ranges to whatever you want year round. Pop in one of those spiffy humidty machines and you're cooking with gas. So to speak.

I run these pid controllers on my dough retarders and proofers for my sourdough breads. They're not spendy but they work great. One of those in a used fridge is way cheaper than buying the actual cabinets.

Now that seems perfect! I was just thinking of ordering more beads too. About 6 years back Roaster dude ordered a TON of beads and we all bought from him. Been using them ever since and humidity stays rock solid. I just pulled out an old 100 - 150 count humidor I won from CigarDojo.com (it's a review site) a few years ago and am seasoning that atm. Think I;m going to order two of those. One for boxes and one for loose smokes. Just gotta get some trays and some Cedar sheets. The great thing about those is that they are clear and have a gasket. I can glue a Hygrometer/thermometer to the side. Thanks for the link!

Check around and you might be able to find an old gun cabinet. I've seen them for sale in my area for around 20 - 50 bucks. I found an old one someone was throwing away and turned it into a humidor. It took about a week to build. Boxes in the bottom and display on the top.

Wow that thing is beautiful! You did an awesome job. Was it hard to make it air tight?

Plan on converting mine in a few months, and using Spanish cedar drawers from ebay

That sounds like the PERFECT solution. Just make sure it seals up and throw some cedar in there

Just saw the pic. Good god, it's beautiful!!!

I sealed all the corners with waterproof silicone. I also silicone around the inside of the glass. Then lined the inside with 1/4" tongue and groove cedar. The smell when you open the door is amazing. I have a couple of friends that hate cigars but when they come over they like to open the door and smell the inside, lol. If anyone decides to give this a shot let me know. I can give you some detailed directions and help.

This could be problematic when trying to maintain humidity as the refrigerator will have a tendency to remove the moisture from the air.

Maybe, my stand up freezers I run at higher temps have exactly the opposite problem. I have to dry them out periodically.

Proofing bread and storing cigars are two entirely different things - you're at a higher temperature and the dough has more water in it than a cigar. Also, some stand up freezers just have coils in the cooled space, unlike refrigerators, they aren't using an evap and a fan in a separate compartment. That fan and evap setup are going to dehumidify the air when the compressor runs, this condensate is then drained to a pan under the refrigerator to evaporate naturally.

Now, if you want to use a stand up freezer that is totally sealed, that will hold humidity quite well. As will an old refrigerator where there is no fan, just a cooling grid around the ice box area. But a modern refrigerator will not.

Got you. My dough retarder runs at 50f, the bread goes 18 hours before I bake it off. I did not think about the fan issue. You're right, my freezer does not have that. d'oh!

no worries - and I misunderstood what you meant by higher temp. I thought you meant higher temp than cigar storage (60F is fine for that) rather than higher than freezer temps.

People like to convert thermoelectric wine coolers for that very reason. Just plug the drain hole, set the temp and you're done.

Ah, wine coolers. Something to add to my watch list.

Perhaps for you.
Many of us enjoy it. Especially what AKDave has created. And the general interaction.

Most of us simply choose to quietly close a thread if we're not interested in what it contains.
But you felt a need to proclaim your disinterest to the rest of us.
And put it on display. In a particularly dismissive and condescending way as well.

Hmmm, says more about you than it does us... Think

Don’t get your panties in a wad.

Alas, you have no idea what I meant - it was a clue to CelticBomber to watch his ass. So, since you spoiled it, incoming - I’ll leave it at that.
