It looks interesting. However, I'm reading something say...where the writer seems to be cooped up all day...from August 2016 where EPC planned on releasing a cigar called "Grand Prize". It was not going to bear EPC's name, although winning Cigar of the Year should help marketing efforts to say the least. The 2016 ICPCR announcement included word that they would be a budget cigar and run about $3.15-3.65. CI has these on sale for that same general price range. Not saying that shelved cigars are bad. I've actually had a few over the years that were fantastic, and I generally like EPC's stuff, plus the blend is intriguing (full disclosure: I have a box on bid, unless you're Mrs. Pacman, in which case someone musta hacked my account). Furthermore, some blenders' budget stuff is better than others' $30 cigars, so I keep an open mind. Come to think of it, I cannot say for certain that these are even the same cigar. Perhaps it's just a different EPC cigar project with Ecuadorian wrapper and Ecuadorian binder and the same five country (Dominican, Nicaraguan, Ecuadorian, Mexican, and USA) filler blend. Really, isn't that the same blend for about every other cigar on the market?

OK, nice to get acquainted and re-acquainted. Counting down to my first serious (IIRC) banning. :)P~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I saw the budget cigar references as well and, interestingly, have not seen an actual review of the cigar. Can't find any report from anyone who claims to have smoked one.

But, at $1.96 per (including the shipping, if this is the only thing you buy) it's worth the gamble for me -assuming the starting price holds - for something EP is responsible for, but, like the OP, not going above that.

While some are certainly better than others, I have yet to run into an EP cigar that would not be worth $2 delivered to my door. I am going through a lot of smokes this summer and can't be burning the higher-end stuff every time, every day!

+1

And...there's been a good number of EPC's that are worth more than the $2-3 they typically command. Haven't bid on any lately, but I've burned through quite a few rob-size New Waves, Dark Rituals, Cardinalsomethings, and New Wave Reservas...never bidding more than 3 bucks per. I've tried a few that I didn't bid on again, but can't say that I recall any of them being awful

Well, everyone who bid sitting fairly pretty right this moment. 135 winning bids on 139 total units out of 200 available with a day and a half to go. Will be interesting to see how this dart-throw turns out.

I picked up a box of robbies here yesterday for $37.I'm gonna pull 2-3 to sit back for the long nap,the rest go to a young man I consider a son deployed with the 75th Ranger Regiment.I'll throw in 75 more or so so he and his battle buddies truly enjoy their down time.

Heh sorry but if I remember correctly I mentioned I saw them for sale there and you asked me to check again when I went to the Pepin event. This thread reminded me of that.

Well I got my two boxes today and picked them up during the 20% off sale and also free shipping for $75.59 or $1.57 each stick.

The cigars are well constructed with a medium brown wrapper. The fill is about medium and a bit soft due to the fill. You would want to smoke this cigar very slowly as I could see it getting hot, wet and bitter.

The listing says this is medium but I consider it mild-medium at best. There is a woody taste and that is about all I get. Complex, not in the least. This is a decent smoke for what I paid but I would never spend the $69.99 retail for it. This is a morning smoke when you don't mind leaving it to go out. There is plenty of smoke but again not complex at all and kind of boring in my opinion. This is what you would give a first timer to cigar smoking.

Thanks for the quick review. Sounds like a good one to share with my neighbor who thinks Nub connies are a bit strong. Nice to treat him once in a while, but even the medium sticks in my collection would probably make him green. I don't need candela neighbors.

Deal at the MS. Same price, but the cigars...well, I don't know anyone who smokes them, but the numbers say more than a few people do. I'm sure someone is ordering up several boxes and loving them. Just not me. Budget cigar from JC Newman, who does market some tasty cigars (Diamond Crown Maximus #1 is on my all-time Top 20 list, and I think the Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino sun grown is a tremendously overlooked gem). Judge Wright is a Cuban sandwich blend, and current deal is for same price as these. I'll take my chances with EPC, thanks. The number of Cuban sammies I like is very short.

I won the HC 6x60 Gordo bundle of 20 also
At the Base offering special price

So,
crillo bundle of 24 robustos
HC bundle of 20 gordos

44 cigars
Order total ( cigars + shipping+ tax)
was $84.35 ÷44 = $1.90 per cigar
^^^ a very good deal

The HC Mauro gordos are good

The castillio / knockoffs robustos are not good at all.

I you're talkin HC Series Maduro2, I agree completely
If HC Series Black Maduro, I think they have too much of a "charcoal" flavor and very dry finish

Surely everyone has gotten their batches by now, so lets hear what everybody thinks!

#1 ROTT:

They saved money on the boxes for sure, an old Dutch Masters box is sturdier.
The cigar wrapper a bit rough, rustic would be a kind way to put it, but looks like rolled well. Feels a bit squishy but not overly so.
Pre-light: not a lot of flavor at all, very light tobacco. A slight hint of salt from the wrapper in your mouth.
Fired it up! Very loose draw, overly so. No resistance at all, feels like it is going to burn pretty fast.
The initial third is fairly mild, especially for an AJ cigar (maybe why his name is not on it.) The mild salt is there along with some mild/white pepper flavors.
Picking up a bit more spiciness in the second third, but still fairly mild with light tobacco flavor I was right, this is burning pretty quick.
About the halfway point start getting some nice umami/savory flavors.
Well, it stayed that way until the end. Burned well and pretty straight but did not last long at all.

#2 Several days rest in the humi.

Pretty much the same as #1 above but firmer, better draw and burned quite a bit longer. Did a squeeze test on the remainder, a few seemed overly squishy, but most did not, so its likely going to be hit or miss on the burn consistency.

Overall, although a lot milder than I usually smoke, I found it enjoyable - especially the second one that drew better and burned longer. With more humi time, they could get even better

This is going to be my morning/breakfast, coffee-on-the-porch cigar until they run out, mild enough for the morning but more interesting to me than most Connies out there. Ill just keep a second one handy if I get one of the loose-packed ones that burn through quickly.

In all then, $40 for 24 cigars is worth it if most of them are closer to #2 than #1, especially since I had another order going in anyway (nice score on some puro authenticos!) so the shipping was not as big of a deal with this bid.
