Several years back I met this guy who was a causal smoker...........of sorts...........he only smoked the Diesel Unlimited d.5 Maduro. He didn’t own a humidor. He would simply buy a box, and when he was down to a few, order another box.
I tried to share the benefits of maybe setting up a desktop humi with humidification, and trying some different cigars, and.....................nope, he wasn’t interested. He was just lucky he lived in a cigar friendly climate pretty much year round.

About 4 months ago I picked up a fiver for $9 on a whim when stocking up on a few favorites here.
Normally I’d let any low end AJ cigar sit at least 6 months, a year being better, but I was looking for a yard gar the other day, and decided to try one.

It was decent but not great by any means. However, I think with another 6 months it will become a solid sub $2 yard gar. Some leather, burnt coffee, a little pepper, and perfect burn and draw with lots of smoke............typical solid AJ construction.
Maybe a diamond in the rough after a 2 year nap?
Puddin may know....

Just had one. Woodsy with a bit of black pepper and leather, heavy on the dark roast coffee with a touch of cocoa, followed by a slightly sweet finish. Always have some in my rotation. Love ‘em

Have you ever let some sit for a year or two?
If so, how are they then?

I’ve thought about it but didn’t like the bid prices, as I never lose a bid.

They smooth out considerably, losing their rough edges, prolly what you perceived as “burnt” coffee. I’d send you some, but my stash is depleted in preparation of my impending move

Shame on you
That’s quite alright....I have no space for more cigars.
Thanks though...

Time helps these a lot. As izonfire said, "They smooth out considerably, losing their rough edges". Indeed. In place of the rough edges, you get added complexity. In other words, the usual trajectory and effects of cigar aging.

2+ years seems to be best, in my experience.

My standard maduro precautions apply to this stick:

1. Drybox 24-48 hours before use if you store at 68-70% RH like I do, may not be necessary for folks who store at lower RH%.

2. Do not smoke on rainy or humid days, dry days are best

3. Smoke them slowly for maximum flavors.

If aged and these recommendations are followed, retrohales with this stick are usually a treat. If not aged or these recommendations are not followed, retrohales can be harsh.

Hope this helps.

P.S. --- Try aging the regular, non-maduro Diesel Unlimiteds for 5+ years. I have. Holy crap, cigar nirvana, at least with the particular circa-2012 batch I smoked in 2017. Who knows if today's production are sufficiently similar to the 2012 ones though. Might be worth a shot as a "time capsule" gamble, get a box cheap here and then stash 'em till 2024....

KOC always says he doesn’t have room when you give him cigars.... and hand deliveries are better off left at the door for a higher success rate. So I hear

This sounds like a thinly veiled request for more cigars...
