Actually a law has been broken Opel. When the specific inspector general passes along a report with a reccomendation that a potentially serious offense has occurred it must by law be passed to a specific committee in 7 days. This was refused and therefore not done. The committee that Nunes used to run and now Shiff does. The issue isn't what did Trump do, or what did Biden do? They might be dirty as hell but that isn't relevant here. I am tired of politicians and government employees acting above the law and getting away with it. There needs to be criminal accountability for them when they choose to break the law. Nor am I saying Trump broke a law. At this time the Dems are just pissing me off with impeachment talk. Lets go after the verifiable crime.

Tail I assume you are being serious and genuine so I’ll respond. I don’t intend to get in to a compartmentalized point for point in an attempt to justify the absurd.

You just repeated parts of the theory. It’s the use of partial truths and convenient extrapolation.

Biden did brag about “it”. But the it isn’t what you describe. The whole world wanted the prosecutor out at the time. They thought he was corrupt. It was out in the open, not behind closed doors and never a secret. And while Biden may brag about his role it was also not his decision. Add to that the claim the prosecutor was investigating Bidens son at the time, which appears to be untrue or at least nothing supports that claim.

It was in the open, has been investigated, and the facts are being twisted. It’s similar to the Hillary uranium conspiracy theory and is only there if you want it to be.

That aside; if you think it needs more investigation (again) knock yourself out. He can refer it to DOJ and several other mechanisms (many of which have already debunked it which may be why a bogus route is preferred).

In this case legitimate routes of investigation are being shunned and even blocked by those in power and the accusation is instead he is going to another country to pursue his theory.

Come on man. Don’t get caught up in this one. It’s laughable.

It would satiate my curiosity if someone were to explain Hunter Biden's role.
The Obama administration claims no conflict because he was a private citizen.
Read: It's just a coincidence that the VP's son was hired to a job in the Ukraine during daddy's tenure.

The prosecutor in question was investigating the company Hunter worked for. I don't think this is in question.
The Obama adminstration said "nothing to see here".
Read: coincidence that Hunter Biden gets suddenly rich while the company he's on the board for is working deals with the US VP (aka Daddy).

You're right. There isn't firm proof.
But I find it difficult to believe the left's interpretation.
This was cronyism 101 and it was swept under the rug.
I honestly think it's naive to believe otherwise.

Is it a big deal in the scheme of things? Probably not. We're not beholden to anyone.
But neither would we be if all the Trump allegations are true. If true, this was a power play by Trump. One that may have brought him on the wrong side of what's legal. But no more nefarious than what happened under the last regime.

What concerns me most is the sudden interest by the media.
Because you're right. We DID know about Biden's questionable dealings. Approved by Obama. And just a collective shoulder shrug by the media for essentially the same thing.

I assume you have the same curiosity regarding ivanka's role... and kushner's?

Funny how this is suddenly smokescreen for some other issue, but no one's looking into the exact same crap (crap which I do not approve of by anyone) going on immediately.

Trumps family are in advisory roles to his office.
Hunter was put on the board of a foreign utility company.

Trump hasn't threatened a foreign nation to protect Ivanka or Kushner.

Other than that, you're spot on....

i guess I should specify... I believe It's a bigger issue than the US president asking the Ukrainian president to look into Joe Biden... And I'm confident that's all that is in this "whistleblower report"...

If it was ****** cheney being looked into, those currently in a fit would be thrilled...

And for the record, I'm not saying it's not a smoke screen.
TW may have nailed it when he said it could be to discredit a potential opponent.
But that doesn't make it less true.

seriously?
Because he didn't bother to go through a 3rd party to get his kid a position and just gave it to them from his own staff?
And yeah... not paid. But when it becomes clear that grifting through your side businesses will get someone access to the president, it doesn't matter.

Do you honestly believe that either of these children have anything resembling the experience expected from someone who would be "advisor" on any of the presidential topics?

Apropos of the whistleblower scandal.... we have a tweet from Twitler yesterday....

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
“@FoxNews bombshell information reports that the so-called Whistleblower did not have firsthand knowledge of that phone conversation with Ukraine’s President.” Wow!
@HARRISFAULKNER It is all a Democrat/Adam Schiff Scam! Doing this for 3 years now, and found NOTHING!"

So the idiot is pretending that Fox news knows who the whistleblower is... and what access he may have had. If he has no idea who the whistleblower is regarding this call, why would he think fox news would know? They're famous for not knowing most things they report about.

When was the last time a candidate for POTUS used foreign influence to ascend to the office?

When has it been acceptable for a sitting POTUS to coerce and solicit a foreign government to provide dirt on a political opponent for his office in furtherance of his re-election?

Since when do we target whistleblowers and not follow the rule of law that moves whistleblower complaints up the appropriate chain of command?

do we really need the whistleblower's complaint or the transcripts of the calls to establish the factual basis for those first two questions...Trump and his cohorts have said so much...

sometimes an impeachment inquiry is needed to discover the proof of abuse of power, obstruction of justice, violation of laws/criminal conduct...there was no proof, mostly speculation and allegations, of any of those elements when the GOP initiated impeachment proceedings against Clinton...actual proof of Nixon's criminal behavior, obstruction of justice and abuse of power was obtained after the impeachment investigation into Watergate began...

in both cases, the underlying purpose was for Congress, in its legitimate Constitution provided power, its oversight capacity of the executive branch, to hold the POTUS accountable to the rule of law and to insure he exercises his authority in an appropriate manner...

I haven't said anything about impeach.

If we impeach him we'll just get a bigger, dumber idiot elected. The people who voted for him haven't changed at all. Until they change, removing him from office will fix nothing.

That's not going to stop me from constantly and loudly pointing out his innumerable faults for my own amusement.

Not ready to impeach here, but willing to look into allegations that are credible. All I've heard, seen and read means nothing. Pass the report up/down the chain and let it be seen.

an impeachment inquiry should've been launched after the Mueller Report was released...it contained at least 10 instances of specific, factual counts of obstruction of justice....Trump's response would've been to stonewall and not respond to subpoenas, forcing each issue to the courts, which would've dragged out the timeline.... but the courts would rule against Trump (they usually do) so that would establish a lengthy list of abuses of power on Trump's part, bolstering the case for impeachment...

no doubt the Senate wouldn't convict but it would convince many undecideds which way to vote...

no honest American of either political persuasion wants an autocrat wannabe dictator who flaunts the rule of law as POTUS

Heh... there's an amusing symmetry there.

However, regardless of what your views of members of the forum here are, I would challenge you to find a single center or left leaning member anywhere indicating they are "ok" with the president performing actions which suggest dictatorship or autocracy simply because he's getting the results they want.

I've seen that statement a number of times in the past 2 years from right leaning members.

hell... given your join date, I'm going to bet you've never seen that said by anyone other than a right leaning member here.

You're ignoring what Biden did to protect his kid.

But to answer your question about experience, no. I don't think any of them have that.

Is that what you'd like to redirect this discussion to?

No intention to redirect. Just observing your selective outrage. It's a very sexy selective outrage. It sways when you wave it around.

Anyway.... transcript has been released... and other than additional documented proof that our president is a moron who can't string a sentence together, I'd say there isn't a whole lot there.

I mean.. he asked for a "favor"... and requested the Ukrainian president look into Biden for him, but I don't see a real "quid pro quo" there. It isn't like he explicitly said he would withhold aid or anything.

He's a bad imitation of a 1970s italian mob boss.... "You know... the USA has been real good to you, gooder to you than those EU countries have been, and they should have been better to youse.... By the way, I would likes you to does somethin' for me"

It's dumb. The subtext is clear. But meh... it's par for the course for this idiot in office. Nothing more outrageous than we've seen.

Victor, you are 100% correct.
This is Par for the course:

The left claim Armageddon over something Trump might have done.
They claim there is proof.
Investigation shows nothing of substance.

Collective shrug.
They'll find their next Russia tomorrow.
Have faith.

the transcript shows what Trump has already admitted...he requested help from a foreign country to provide information about a political opponent in the election of 2020....

as for explicit quid pro quo: this came at the same time Trump withheld $400 million in approved military aid to Ukraine...

if someone has not sent you what you were expecting while you're fighting and getting shot at by the Russians...and then calls you and says he's been very good to you in the past, and that he needs a favor...

This seems like something the Judiciary Committee needs to investigate.

Particularly since the Ukraine affair isn’t unique: As Peter Schweitzer reported in The Post, Hunter’s private equity fund Rosemont Capital (co-founded with John Kerry stepson Chris Heinz) similarly exploited family connections — in name, at the very least — to grow to $2.4 billion under management. Notably, one breakthrough was an early meeting with China’s largest, most powerful government-funded leaders — the same day Joe Biden met with China’s president.

I think it is important to remember Trump is just very concerned about the Ukraine and wants to help them out. And much like Interpol he is simply trying to help them root out and fix corruption. And the funding thing is just a coincidence. The fact that he called out an american citizen specifically and it happens to be his main political opponent (or family cover up) is also just a coincidence and has nothing to do with him using his position improperly. He is just trying to help. He's even offering his personal attorney.

And Biden is guilty. Just like Hillary. That's pretty much a given.

We do not need to investigate this situation but do need to investigate Biden. Simple really.

We also need to investigate the coke running scheme at that airport next to the gay bathhouse.

But we just need to get out of his way and let him help the Ukraine. It is very important to him. He just wants to help. The fact it may hurt Biden is irrelevant and a huge coincidence.
