I hope everyone follows suit... Maybe a new American basketball league will form...

Players won't make squat at first, so they'll have to really love the game to compete...

And obviously the players are gonna need at least a part time job, so maybe just one game per team per week...

I'm liking it better than the nba already...

he's just a mirror of America...we value money over the rest of our freedoms...all the big American companies over in China also keep their mouths shut about the lack of individual freedoms and democracy there in order to rake in the dough...we don't care how China treats their people...

some peeps who told him to shut up and dribble agree with what he said...

in America: money talks....democracy walks...

Funny, but he will arguably remain the greatest player of this millennium, after Jordan before him.

The opinions on Twitter are not stopping him.

To be certain, it was LeBron who had a problem with hearing what our entertainers think about the world... Make no mistake on that... We the people had no problem with what was said by Morey.... LeBron the millionaire did...

Well those people can go fornicate themselves with the wide end of a broom...

It doesn't excuse the hypocrisy coming from LeBron... I have no problem hearing his opinion... But when his opinion is that his paycheck is more important than free speech and democracy, he can join the broom *******...

But now we see that he's a slave to the almighty dollah.

Lebron was "brave" to support Kap, but he's ball-less when it comes to China.

Selective fortitude is the same as none.

Now Lebron wants Morey to be fined or punished by the league.

Huh.

In Lebron's world, he wants complete immunity for players to criticize the President of the United States, but punishment for owners who support democracy in the face of foreign authoritative powers.

Does anyone here think Lebron is justified here? Even a little?

as Lebron stated about Morey, he is certainly entitled to free speech, but may not understand the situation well enough to see where he is wrong and the fallout that will ensue (paraphrased).
True for both of them.

That said, I have more negative reaction to people being told to shut up and dribble than dribblers speaking...the first is showing an alarming lack of understanding and respect about our freedoms, the second I choose to ignore as unqualified to opine.

That's the beauty of America. Freedom of Speech. I might not like what he has to say, but I've defended his right to say it. Given his statements, dribbling is all he needs to do. Every time he opens his mouth about anything he shoot his own foot.

Yet another reason why Jordan will always be the GOAT in the NBA.

Meh. I don't really care what any athlete says or does. Some folks have stronger feelings about what they do but to me they are like any of you (or me). No more, more less. I'm certainly not going to stop going to good movies or sporting events because I don't like someones politics.

HA!

I still love the NBA.

Though the truth is I have not seen much since his opening remarks, but did he take a stand different than our President's current-subject-to-change stance on China and Hong Kong?
Or Saudi Arabia for that matter?

Seems sports is following politics now...er, following the money I should say.

- LeBron endorses Hillary
- LeBron campaigns w/ Hillary
- LeBron calls Trump supporters 'uneducated'
- LeBron calls Trump a 'bum' & 'hateful'
- LeBron attacks Trump on border wall

*Mention Communist China atrocities*

I really don't get why conservatives have a problem with that way of thinking.
I'm not even trying to insult anyone (yet!), but I thought Greed Is Good has been a credo since Reagan.

This doesn't make him a spokes person for the Sanders campaign.

I wouldn't have a problem with it either if he didn't try to have it both ways.

how many peeps who said "F*** the NFL...I aint never watching them spoiled bazzturds again" a couple of years ago now tune in every Sunday, Monday and Thursday?

and after the season starts and your fave team is in playoff contention, you'll be back watching the NBA, especially when your team plays the Lakers...

I'm OK with Lebron saying whatever he said on both occasions...you speak up, you should expect someone to question your words and motives...it's the American way...freedom of speech has more than legal limits...there are social limits/consequences too...

I've prolly posted dozens of thoughts that I wished I'd re-read and then re-read again...

Please don't think I support LeBron's position. I just find the reaction also hypocritical on the part of cons.

Are there no wealthy conservative capitalists who attempt to appear in favor of human rights and other nice American stuff, yet are willing to make billions off of virtually slave labor in China and elsewhere?
Nike shoes, anyone?

NBA star athletes are not alone in their hypocrisy, but as a league the players are unlike those in other leagues as they are far more involved in direction and are basically partners in the endeavor, not simply employees. I'm not sure why they aren't granted the same leeway as the ruling class.

I have also posted in past threads asking why the US hasn't stepped up in support of Hong Kong. But I realize there's a lot more to all of this than simplistic good guy/bad guy roles. There's trade, and jobs, and other stuff.

To his partial credit, LeBron did follow up with saying that if spoken a week later Morey's words could still be admirable while doing less damage to their league...not sure I understand this but it might have been what LeBron meant by the "timing" and what Morey seemed to not understand.

somehow, inside, I still feel that I don't care that much about what either Morey or James said.

The games in China were almost cancelled after the teams had already arrived... Pretty sure that's where the "it could've waited a week" came from... He didn't like that the comments were made while he was there...

Ah, so lot's of money invested and possibly all lost while closing very profitable avenues that took years to develop in China... where more people watch the NBA than in America!

How many of our most admired business leaders would have not held back those same comments Morey said to protect the deal? I'm feeling like LeBron is a Capitalist, not a social worker.

me, I started as a social worker but couldn't support a family.

found this on Joseph Tsai (Nets owner) interesting. also shows some insight into why the NBA is blowing away every other league globally.
so a little political dust up here...had to happen sometime. If not here, then Africa, or South America, or Europe...they are everywhere folks.

I believe many if not all business men would side with LeBrons view... I think what's bothering many people who formerly supported LeBron is that they thought he was for justice and equality and wouldn't let money change his mind on that...

Read what I could... Seems like the gist is that Tsai - a billionaire - thinks stupid Americans just don't understand Chinese culture... If we did, we would see that the ethnic cleansing of the uighurs, censoring free speech, and communism in general are really quite good...

I don't disagree...though China still embraces what we despise, they are far more open to the possibility of individuals like Tsai creating wealth and even allowing for an expanding middle class.
We may not understand Chinese culture, or many other cultures for that matter, as well as they understand ours though.

We have very close friends who are from Chile. They have done very well here. When we discuss this perceived "American ignorance" of the rest of the world, they tell me we shouldn't worry about it because we are The Big Dog.
But that was a few years ago, I should ask them again.
