Hey ash brothers! Just got these two lighters. Quickie review time, in case it helps anyone out there!

Xikar Tech Quad - Basically a Xikar Tech Triple with 33% more jettage, baby! As noted in a prior post, the trick is to hold your cigar quite a good way back to let the four jets merge into one big wide "virtual jet", with the big width helping toast and light cigars better and more evenly than a single or double (or even triple) can. Hold it too close though and you'll torch the crap out of the first 1-2 inches of your wrapper leaf and ruin the cigar. Like all Techs, it has a huge tank, but with 4 jets it burns through the tank pretty fast... however, you won't need to run it nearly as long to light a cigar, so it all balances out nicely. Same great build and finish (gunmetal is pretty!) as other Techs. Recommended. Price I paid: $40.

Xikar HP3 - I thought this would be very similar to a Xikar Trezo, and it is. Same jet configuration. Larger body but seemingly a larger butane tank too, for less frequent fills. Doesn't fit in the top tray of the Xikar CigarLocker while the Trezo does. Pretty standard size/capacity tradeoff. Got in "Daytona Red", gorgeous finish, like a sports car paint job. Dual "EZ-View" red fuel windows, however these are harder to read than the other EZ-View examples I've seen (Turrim, Forte, etc.) It's almost like the red elements are deeper inside, and more direct light is needed to see them. However, still quite usable. Fit and finish is top-notch, lid snaps open and shut perfectly, trigger slides smoothly with no wiggle, fuel level wheel is great, etc. The jet pattern that it shares with the Trezo is my favorite for initial lights, out of any I've ever tried. Recommended. Price I paid: $44.

And remember that unbelievably-good, all-encompassing Xikar lifetime warranty. When you have a Xikar product, unless you lose it, you'll have it (or one of its successor models) for the rest of your life.

Such weird timing for a lighter review Puddin.
My two favorite lighters, a generic triple flame and a Conduct-Tite single, both died yesterday, within 5 minutes of each other!

Weirder still, is the fact that I FOUND both of them, on the same day, about two years ago, one on the beach, and one on the street near my house.

Don't throw those away yet. Try this little-known trick. Butane is not only a fuel, but can also be a cleaner, especially when deployed under high pressure. Get your "dead" lighters (held right-side up) and get a can of butane (held upside-down). Ensure there are NO IGNITION SOURCES in the area AND be sure that your fingers/thumb are NOWHERE NEAR THE IGNITER BUTTON of the lighter. Then, being careful not to bend or break off the igniter wire that's above the jets, push the butane can's nozzle firmly down against the jets themselves. This will blast high-pressure butane into the jets. Do each jet this way. Now, leave the lid open and DO NOTHING for several minutes to let excess butane evaporate. Then, try to light the lighter. Very often, it's back from the "dead" and works fine.

You can also get some black-can Xikar "HIGH PERFORMANCE" butane, which is known to bring "dead" lighters back to life. No, not hype, I heard the claims and then verified it myself with several "dead" lighters I had in a drawer. Purged and filled them all with it. The damn stuff brought over half of them back to life!

Hope this helps. If not, get a Xikar and you have an Eterna-Lighter that keeps getting replaced whenever it dies.

By the way, Xikar's got some cool schitt coming this fall. If you search YouTube for "Xikar IPCPR 2019" you can find videos about the new "Tactical Single", which is an extra-wide single jet with giant EZ-view tank and integrated belt clip and cigar rest, and the Xikar "Enso", which is like the XO cutter but thinner and only has one handle not two, but still does gear-controlled perfectly-sync'd cuts.

Can't buy either anywhere right now, but you'll be able to in a few months.

Thanks for the tips PM. ThumpUp

Just tried blowing compressed air into the jets of my (dead) double Turrim and brought it back to life! Although I had tried before to blow air, never shot it directly into it for as long as I did. Hopefully that does the trick ‘cause I’m a little leery about shooting butane into the jets. Not that I doubt that it’ll work, just spooked about shooting butane into them when the only way to access the jets is to pull the igniter.

Will also pick up a can of the black Xikar butane to see if that makes a difference too.

Eh........I wish it was simply gumped up.
The igniter switch mechanism took a chit on both of them.
On the triple, I knew it was coming sooner than later.
One the single, it just quit suddenly........and I noodled around a bit on both , but said fuggit.
They were free, and I gots others.

Huh? You open the lighter's lid, and press the butane nozzle directly onto the jet, that's all. There's no disassembly required.

You're spraying butane into the jets from the top, you're not disassembling them and spraying it from the back or anything.

Press the nozzle to the jets, blast 'em with butane, done. Easy. Just make sure the butane nozzle doesn't bend or break the igniter/sparker wire that's on top of the jets. Just eyeball where it is and avoid it with the nozzle.

Compressed air works too, but not as well as butane. Standard practice is to try compressed air first, then if that doesn't work, blast 'em with butane. Solvents under pressure work far better than mere air under pressure.

When you pull the lid, it engages the igniter but I’ve come to realize that it’s just a one time spark. Haven’t fussed with the lighter since I wrote my post so hoping it’s all good. Worst case scenario, I send it back.

Ohhh, the Turrim, right. Well, purge the lighter completely of all fuel, pull the lid back, blow out any residual flame if it occurs (it shouldn't), then blast the jets with the butane. Pretty easy.

I, too, like Xikar lighters a LOT. My new go to is the Turismo. Had it about 10 days, have lit probably ten cigars and it still is almost full.

Got some new Xikars in today. Well, one is "new-old-stock", but they're both new to me!

HP3 in "Burnt Yellow" color:
Same as the HP3 in Daytona Red functionally. However the finish is matte, not metallic and clearcoated like a car paint job. The color is a very slightly orangey-yellow that really "works" with the matte finish. Very attractive.

Versa Havana:
Take a Bugatti B-1 lighter (a rectangular, side-squeeze-trigger, single-jet lighter with two integrated punches). Make it a bit larger. Add panels on both sides with a lovely Havana-themed collage of illustrations, complete with gold accents, and cover them with a clear resin. Replace the manual flip-top with an automatic trigger-linked burner cover (like the Allume single has). Make the entire rest of the top be mirrored, letting you easily see the end of your cigar while lighting with the head in your mouth, to ensure an even light. Make the two flip-out punches larger (7mm and 9mm) and make them quality (the circular blades on the B-1 have a tendency to fall out of the housing). Add top-notch lifetime warranty. I'm lovin' it.

The Versa Havana is discontinued, but a certain "scary site" was blowing them out the other day (and may do so again, who knows?) for $26.98 and free shipping, and you could also apply a 20% off $125+ or 17% off $50+ code, bringing the price down to $21.58 or $22.39, respectively. This lighter usually sold for $100 with an MSRP of $150, if I recall right. What a bargain!

The Turismo is the successor to the discontinued Axia and the more recently discontinued Enigma II lighters.

The Axia had a smaller butane tank, but they did a run of them in a special G2 (double gunmetal) finish that was absolutely striking. The accents were normal gunmetal (which is very pretty) but the body was done in a gunmetal I've never seen before or since: it was a sort of chromed, mirror-finish gunmetal with a rose-ish tint. Visually flooring, and I got two of them at $30 each when they were being closed out.

The Enigma I and the improved II came in many colors and finishes over the years, including blue/silver, red/silver, black/silver, chrome/silver, G2, etc. but in recent years the color choices were reduced, and now it's discontinued. A mid-life experiment with a trigger-linked auto-opening lid was abandoned due to reliability issues, probably due to tobacco or carbon residue build-up, and it switched back to a manually-operated lid later.

Both were great lighters, and I have no doubt the Turismo is as good or better! Good choice!

I also am guessing that broken Axias and Enigmas will be replaced with Turismos, but I haven't tried it yet. I do have a broken Enigma, so I'll test that theory soon.

Pudding Mittens is an astute judge of lighters. He pointed me to the scary place, and I scored a couple of Xikar Allume doubles. They are freaking amazing and I love them. Especially for under $20 apiece. Thanks buddy!

Why thank you, Gunner!

For those who are interested, the Xikar Versa I reviewed above is currently on the scary site at $25.98 with free shipping, meaning with one of the discount codes it's $21.56 (Bee-Oh-Tee-Ell-Oh-Arr-Gee) or $20.78 (Two-Zero-Oh-Eff-Eff-You-Pee-Ess). Expires midnight tonight (10/14/2019).

Screaming good deal on a heck of a nice lighter.

Scroll up and read my Versa review earlier in this thread for full details.

I think dual-jet is the all-around best, but a single jet can emulate it using the "wrist wiggle" technique where you wiggle your wrist back and forth rapidly so the single jet is basically "spread out" over a 0.5 to 0.75 inch in width, providing full coverage of the cigar foot. After a few times, it becomes automatic and you don't even have to think about it anymore. Kinda cool. I did it all the time with the Bugatti B-1 back in the day, and now I do it with the Versa, Allume single, Tech single, Turrim single, Incline, etc. All single-jet lighters.

Also single jets are a bit better for touch-ups, also better for correcting wavy burn lines but not by much because the dual-jets can just be turned to make a straight line to rotate the cigar past.

And yeah, the Allume double is pretty damned ideal as a cigar lighter. It's my favorite overall. Glad you're enjoying yours!

If you don't mind an "Acid" logo on the side, they have Allume Doubles for $19.95 on ebay right now w/$5 shipping.

Some guys won't mind, but many will. If you watch the scary site daily like I do, eventually you'll see Allume Doubles in a pretty wide variety of colors and logos for $20, sometimes with free shipping included, which beats the eBay price. Seeing them at $25 with free shipping is more common, which matches the eBay price.

They mostly have the logos of the "very well-known cigar company"'s house brands, but the overall look on some ends up being quite nice. My favorite "lookers" there so far are:

Silver ("steel") and chrome, with the "601 Kryptonite" logo in green.
Blue ("reef") and chrome, with "Pantheon" logo and ancient Greek god figures in white.
Fluorescent orange ("crush") and chrome, with "Inferno" logo and stylized flames in white.
Red ("riot") and gunmetal, with "Inferno" logo and stylized flames in white.
Gunmetal and gunmetal ("G2") with "Dark Ages" logo and four medieval icons in light gray.
Matte white ("Alpine") with "Lucullan" logo in blue.

There are others, too. Not only a crazy-good deal at $20 but also visually interesting and appealing, and no logo of overpriced potpourri cigars.

Also, speaking of Xikar stuff, CI Herfing currently has the Diesel Unlimited d.nt on sale for $37.50 per box of 10 with a free Diesel-logo'd brown Xikar VX cutter.

The Xikar VX2 is newer, sexier-looking, spring-loaded and cuts a bit wider and deeper than the VX, but the VX is still an excellent V-cutter for general-purpose use and it's often preferable to the VX2, for example with a cigar that's known to have loose draws that you'd like to counteract a bit, where the VX2 would make too big of an opening. And of course, lifetime warranty.

Heck of a deal. A little bird told me that you can enter a 4-letter promo code that is a synonym for "autumn" and is also what happens when you drop an object, and you'll get free shipping.

Oh, and the cigars are good, too. The Unlimited d.nt is a heck of a smoke, with shape changes causing intensity and flavor mix changes along its length. It also ages very, very well. I have 2+ year old specimens that are very impressive, and I'll bet after 4-5 they'll be really something.

If you consider the cutter to be worth $25, it ends up being $1.25 per stick, helluva deal.

Good 2 know. I did look over at the scary place but the only Allume they had was $45 with shipping plus I had a $5 coupon at ebay so I went for it, Acid and all. If it bothers me too much, Ill mod it!

Brulee torch about $8 in the jungle. Can tone it down to safely light a cigar, but if you like the giganto smokes, you could burn a house down with one of these things. Got a couple different ones to make sure if one is a dud, I can still have one functioning.

You can also roll like the late, great Richard Overton, who lit 10-12 cigars each day on his kitchen's gas range until he died at age 112 and a half.

Portability is a problem though. Stoves weigh a lot and are tethered by gas lines! Herfing

#27 So you can't buy a bigger kit? These things will light, what, a couple dozen cigars or more on one charge?

#28 My wife bought me a $400 Rabbit Air purifier so I can smoke indoors in my office. Also dropped another 8 Benjamins so that the one fixed window in there now opens, giving me cross ventilation in the corner (the other window in the room already opens). Several years ago, I gave her a Springfield Armory 1911-A1 .45. Our stove is right next to the room with her birds and bunnies. I think it would be exceptionally poor form for me to light my smokes on the stove in light of all of that. Plus, if she shoots me and I survive, the local health care sucks, my co-pay at the ER is $75, I'd probably end up blind in the other eye, and I will have to lie to the cops to keep her from going to jail (which would be the only decent thing to do, given all she has done for me over 25 years).

The math doesn't pen out vs. an $8 torch.

I could, but I've humped big heavy rucks in the past and would prefer to not have to anymore. BigGrin I use one of those Xikar lockers and like it. Small, light, easy to take where ever I'm heading to smoke.

Nice pistol. My wife has one in 9mm and A Browning Hi-power as well. LOL. Robert Heinlein was spot on. “An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.”

Thanks, it was a give-away lapel pin from the first round of the playoffs, snapped off the pin part and superglued it on. As a bonus, it actually makes pulling the lighter out of the pocket easier and I can tell which end is up without looking!

Great idea supergluing something suitable like a sufficiently durable lapel pin (metal, enameled, hard-plastic coated, etc.) to the Allume Double to cover up the "Overpowering Potpourri Cigars" logo. It makes a visually-offensive lighter become cool! And you can get that particular Allume Double for dirt cheap because nobody wants the logo! Genius!

Was in Chicago this past seek and visited the Iwan Ries cigar store and lounge ( https://www.iwanries.com/ ). The lighter was a huge hit with everyone that saw it - even Blackhawks fans! Everybody wanted to see it. Several folks said they were going to do something similar.

And BTW, I highly recommend the Iwan-Ries location. A bit hard to find next to the "Loop" especially with the construction going on. On the second floor up an old elevator Day pass to the cigar lounge was $15, but that's less than other places in the area and, with all the smoking regulations, you pretty much have to belong to a club to enjoy, even if only belong to the club for the day.

Prices for a retail place in Chicago were darn good. Larger size Padron 1964's $12 and change. Smaller 1926's the same. No problem bringing in your own cigars into the lounge either. It's BYOB, but they have nice glassware, ice and water all available. A couple of TV's for sports, lots of leather chairs, dark wood. Lots of attorneys belong, so there's that :)

I'm not going to be visiting the leftist "paradise" of Chicago anytime soon. That sounds like a good cigar lounge if you actually want to visit Chicago though. Not minding outside cigars being brought in is a really nice policy.
