"NewsFlash" Finally a microbrewery that has produced a style of beer that is best enjoyed next to a medium to full Flavored cigar! Hell it even has the taste of one these cigars! The beer is produced by Spoetzl brewery in Shiner Texas & is called "Candied Pecan Porter" even has hint of leather in its after taste! Try it with a cigar & post me back with your opinion & see if you agree?

Their Shiner Bock is a legend. They make a lot of other very interesting things too ("Ruby Redbird" grapefruit beer, other odd stuff), and seasonal brews like "Holiday Cheer" (spiced beer for Christmastime), etc. All delicious.

So if they're making a "Candied Pecan Porter", it's probably great.

That reminds me, I need to get another case of Shiner Bock and start making it disappear.

Semi-unrelated: if you want a beer equivalent of the cigar aging experience, try aging stouts (for several years minimum). Some remarkable parallels in how they change. Powerful and spicy but simpler flavors when young, smooth and complex flavors after years of age, rather like cigars. Fun to age cigars and beer at the same time!

Free samples aren't in the marketing plan

I think Fuente cigars are "meh" with no real flavor. So do several cigar friends.

Palates differ. No need to assume yours (or mine) is the Reference Standard, because it's not. Nobody's is.

Go read beer reviews, it's amusing. Beer Advocate is good for this. You'll often find guys giving a beer a 1.3 out of 5 rating interspersed with other guys giving the same beer a 4.8 out of 5 rating, etc.

Beer always tastes better without dirty illegals soiling the landscape.

I like beer to taste like beer first then any additional flavors to enhance a beer should kick in.IMHO this is what Shiner does better than anybody else.Their beer regardless of flavors added taste like beer first unlike some I've wondered if there was any beer even in the bottle. That being said I can think of two previous offerings from Shiner that had added pecan......and they were fantastic. Can't recall the exact name but the beer they did with peaches and pecans made the best black & tan's I have ever had...………..so yea I'ma try me some Candied Pecan Porter

If you haven't had Shiner Bock on tap...…...try it first opportunity you get.If you like beer, not that foofoo flavored crap, you're gonna like this.

Great point. That always has to be considered when looking at reviews of stuff. Their reviews are user-generated and nobody's complained about their reviews being deleted, modified, moved to bottom-of-list, etc. so pretty sure no shenanigans are pulled by the moderators based on ad dollars.

Specific sites and examples aside though, the general principle is certainly well-known and universally acknowledged. Opinions vary widely.

it's possible I've only had Shiner Bock and wasn't bowled over.
I don't drink very many beers anymore and tend to prefer malty stuff.

Huge fan of Shiner Bock. Have been for years. I use it as the base for my brisket marinade. Good stuff. I think I've had that Pecan Porter before. I'll have to look in the archives.
