I like lighters - zippo insert

So, for some unknown reason I like torch lighters - I have/use probably 20 and I also have about 40 various lighters NIB - I find a lighter I like and I buy a bunch more in case they go the way or the dodo.

Anyway, that’s not the point of this post. With all those lighters, I typically carry a Zippo with a Zplus dual flame insert. They’re light and compact and I’ve never had, amazingly, any issues with the zplus.

So, the other day, I’m on amazon and I see Zippo *brand* single and dual flame inserts. WHO KNEW? Why didn’t I get the memo? I ordered several and so far, so good.

I’m not certain how long these have existed, but it was news to me.

Nice. Thanks for sharing that. I've got a bunch of Zippos from my cig smoking days in the Nav. It would be great to get those back into play. BigGrin

I decided I will not buy a lighter unless it has some sort of hand adjustable flame adjustment.

If you pull out the insert and have a small screwdriver in your hand, it is hand adjustable 😉

I have an Air Force one gifted to me on here (secret Santa, I believe). I bought the single flame torch insert. I don’t use it often but it seems to work just fine. 👍🏻😀

had one a couple of years ago...used it as a pocket lighter, much like when I used to smoke cigarettes 35-40 years ago...my friend broke it while fiddling with it... opening and lighting it and closing it over and over again...

.
For any new cigar smoker I just recommend buying a Xikar Tech Double, or several if desired (if you want backups, or you have multiple smoking locations you want one in, etc.)

Double jet is the best configuration I've found overall (meaning for initial lights and touch-ups), plus it has a tank that is both the simplest in the world to read, the easiest to fill completely (bleed fully, fill until the level stops rising, bleed a little again, fill the rest of the way) while visually verifying the fill the entire time, and it's the largest-capacity tank of any similar-sized (pocked-sized) lighter, too. The range of the flame level wheel within the unit's larger full range is easily adjustable too, with a small screwdriver and 2 minutes of your time (and Xikar's YouTube channel has a video that shows you how to do it). Oh, and unconditional no-questions-asked, no-proof-of-purchase, free-replacements-forever warranty too.

Can't beat it and nothing else is needed, IMO

At the "scary site", they're $25, meaning $20 after using the standing 20% off code, and include free shipping, if you're patient and wait for them to come up.

You know I love my multitude of Xikars, but I also like the ability to use a Zippo that has a cool design - today I've got a Washington Nationals WS Championship lighter in my pocket. I also routinely carry either an IDF or Mossad zippo.

Certain I have 4...….maybe more.

My favorite deer rifle is an A-Bolt Medallion in 25-06...…...bout 25 years oold and I wouldn't trade for anything out there.

I also have a BDM in 9mm...….sweetest trigger pull on a DA I have ever shot

I have a Hi-Power I lent to my son when he was working in corrections...…...he's been out of that field about 5 years, time to get it back.

Also have a Citori O/U 12ga......I never shoot it,just too pretty to take out in the field.I have a couple lesser O/U 12/s for the duck blind and quail/dove fields.

Hey, I have one of those as well. Mine is the two-tone "practical" version. I love that gun and I concur on the trigger pull. Got a ton of mags for it too. Love it.

I love those O/U's. My dad has an Ithaca 20ga that was actually built by SKB in Japan and labeled for Ithaca. Man is that a great dove and pheasant gun. Light and fast.

Zippos are cool, no doubt. So many designs! Collect all 85,483 of them! Herfing

Very welcome - I sent the dual flame (which I prefer) - they also offer a single flame.

The .25-06 is an outstanding long range deer rifle round. IIRC the BC of .257 caliber bullets is a very close second only to the 6.5mm caliber for sub .300 caliber rounds. As a result, it’s one of the flattest shooting rounds available within its peer group.

Your particular model is the pinnacle of Browning rifles. Unfortunately, Ram hasn’t weighted in, but as far as I’m concerned it’s a much coveted hunting firearm. So I approve regardless of Yoda’s opinion.

At some point in the not so distant future I plan to own a mostly self-built highly accurized long range deer rifle in .260 Remington based on a Remington 700 action. Since Marine Scout/Snipers have for decades used the 700 action as the foundation for their rifles the 700 is certainly a great choice my rifle.

Having completely hand-built built my AR from from the ground up with individual parts instead off the shelf or sub assemblies I definitely caught the bug. Hopefully, that rifle will at least rival yours both in accuracy and aesthetics.

Perhaps a trip to west Texas will be required for an appropriate test firing environment.

I built my wife a .260 REM on a Savage Model 12 Action. Much more end user friendly, head space gages vice a lathe. BigGrin Lothar Walther SS barrel, McMillan A5 stock I bedded with Devcon Titanium putty.

She's won a couple of 1000 yard F-Class matches with it. 142 SMK's over H-4350 and Federal 210 primers in Lapua brass. IOR 6.5-24 scope.

I run a Savage .308, Lothar Walther barrel, Manners stock, Nightforce scope. 175 SMK's. I'm good to 1k.

Having grown up in the .mil with the remmies, the Savage's are much more user friendly, and the accu-trigger is a better trigger right out of the box.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll look into it. I’ve even given thought to a single shot based on a Ruger #1 or Dakota Arms Farquharson style falling block action because the Farquharson type action is generally regarded as the most accurate and strongest action available on the open market today.

But, I’m having a tough time getting past the possible need for a relatively quick follow-up shot. Who knows. Time will tell.

The only apparent certainty is an exhibition quality English walnut stock blank, engravings and gold wire inletting. It certainly is a plus to live 11 miles from a Firearms Engravers Guild of America (FEGA) master engraver Layne Zulke who as a team member was tasked to create the actual design and subsequently engraving of that design on the 2019 FEGA-Colt 1911 auction gun shown at:

http://southerncustomengraving.com/gallery.html

Not looking for something as bold at that design, but it’s an outstanding example of his skill set.

You just made my eye tic - you mentioned the Ruger Mod1 - I unfortunately shot one of those in .416 Rigby - worst kick ever

#28 - Nice. Very nice. My guns run to a more utilitarian motif. I do have a Browning Hi-Power that some yahoo has the slide "mostly" engraved. Evidently the guy was going to a gunsmithing course at the community college. So he decided to experiment on a T model Hi power. I got a deal on it but I would like to get that finished and reblued for my wife one of these days.

#29 - Yep. I shot a Remington 700 in 375 H&H Magnum once. Kid came to the armory right before payday wanting to sell the rifle which wasn't uncommon. I always kept a couple of Benjamins tucked away in my wallet just in case. He bought it for deer in Mississippi but said he wasn't going to hunt now. Told him I'd have to shoot it first. There were only 2 rounds out of the box which I thought was odd but wth. The remmie was this little lightweight version. Mountain rifle maybe? Anyway. I shot it. Once. My buddy shot it once. We then knew why there were only two rounds missing. LOL. I took it back to the kid. He had the same experience I did. Too damned much recoil. That little rifle was a bruiser. Great to carry, but dang! Way too much gun for my AO.

I really like these. They're all the Xikar Allume is minus the outside adjuster. Which I don't really use anyway. Thank you Steve

You’re welcome - I also think that they sit in the pocket better, because of the size of the zippo.

Yes, I'm really happy with these. The fact that I have my old "go-to's" back in play is pure gravy! Very very appreciative my friend. Thank you again. Applause
