Heresy!

Courtesy of Alton Brown.

https://altonbrown.com/eggnog-recipe/

AGED EGGNOG

12 large eggs (pasteurized if you need peace of mind)
1 pound sugar
1 pint half-n-half
1 pint whole milk
1 pint heavy cream
1 cup Jamaican rum
1 cup cognac
1 cup bourbon
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (plus more for serving)
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Separate the eggs and store the whites for another purpose.
Beat the yolks with the sugar and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl until the mixture lightens in color and falls off the whisk in a solid “ribbon.”
Combine dairy, booze and salt in a second bowl or pitcher and then slowly beat into the egg mixture.
Move to a large glass jar (or a couple of smaller ones) and store in the fridge for a minimum of 2 weeks. A month would be better, and two better still. In fact, there’s nothing that says you couldn’t age it a year, but I’ve just never been able to wait that long. (And yes, you can also drink it right away.)
Serve in mugs or cups topped with a little extra nutmeg grated right on top.

This stuff is amazing! Nothing like that "pudding" you get in the cartons. Sick

I have aged this stuff in the fridge a long time, longest was 2 years and it was great! Give it a shot, but make it now, the longer it sits, the better.

why is eggnog only served at this time of the year?

and is there a less appetizing name, or combination of letters, for a drink?

what other types of nogs are there?

In Britain nog is a strong ale. Basically any alcoholic drink with eggs could be considered a nog. Tom and Jerries, punches, what ever.

Guessing eggnog isn't a healthy beverage. Custard based with extra fat?

Eggnog has never been healthy, but is soooo good. Even the pudding in the carton

For names, I've always thought Grog sounded rather unappealing

Didn't get much sleep. Tried the couch downstairs, but was too cold and when I finally did doze off, wife woke me cause roofers had a question about vent location.

Earplugs and earmuffs got me sleeping around noon. Then at 2pm woke up cause the bed was shaking. Whole house rattling while they loaded new shingles on the roof.

Fell asleep again around 330-4 then wife woke me at 430 to tell me they were leaving for the day... She said she thought I was off tonight and would want to be up. Wtf

Back to work.

Just thinking the other day that it has been a long time since I've had egg nog. Maybe around Xmas we can change that.

I'm about 20 miles south of Chicago in a town called Oak Forest. We have a baker square about 10 minutes from us.
