Some shat I burned recently that is worth mentioning for one reason or another.....

Cohiba Connecticut Robusto (5.5" x 50) is very good and nowhere worth $20 per stick.

Grand Prize by EP Carrillo Gordo (6" x 60) is a decent average smoke and good at $2 per max bid.

Ave Maria Lionheart Bishop (5.75" x 56) is also very good and will be a great $2.80 per or less option here.

Rocky Patel Twentieth Maduro Toro (6.0"x52) is an excellent darkie!

Alec Bradley Project 40 Toro (6" x 52) great draw, decent average flavor. Another good $2 per option.

Rocky Patel Puro Cubano by Hamlet Toro (6.0"x52) tastes a little like Herrera Esteli and Ave Maria. Very good.

Man O' War Ruination 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Gordo (6.0"x60) very good slow burning smoke.

Montecristo Churchill (7" x 50) this new size tastes great, especially at 5 for $14!!!

H.R. Claro Toro (6" x 52) excellent, smooth solid medium smoke. Similar to Cohiba Macassar.

Rocky Patel Vintage 2nds Torpedo Connecticut 1999 (6.12" x 52) very good.

Camacho Powerband Toro (6" x 50) very good, near full flavored Habano.

Plasencia Cosecha 146 San Luis Toro (5.75" x 54) awesome smooth as silk medium smoke.

Montecristo Nicaragua Toro (6" x 54) very good at the right price which seldom happens.

Having a total of 38 Ave Maria Divinia Toros in one 50 count box is very nice especially at $2.80 per cigar! Herfing

EVERY month I get a MANGLED box delivered by UPS! Today I had TWO that should have been delivered. The small box was dropped and only SEMI CRUSHED. Luckily the padding in side saved the 5-Packs. The 15 pound box that was also out for delivery didn't survive the careless pricks at UPS. Hopefully it will be sent back to Cbid, repacked and sent Monday or Tuesday. I HATE UPS!ram27bat ram27bat ram27bat ram27bat ram27bat

STILL got my Box of 20 BG MEYER GIGANTES (7" x 60) I won for $49.00 at Thompson Auctions. The huge stick is packaged in a nice box with no cello. For less than $2.50 per I'm sure it will be decent. Also got:

H. Upmann by Aj Fernandez Toro (6" x 54) Pack of 10 for $34.00. Just smoked one. Not bad for $3 or less.

Man O' War Virtue Churchill (7.5" x 52) Pack of 5 for $12.50 (Very good mild smoke)

Rah..................you didn’t win them at $3 or less.
You paid $3.40 ea, not including shipping, and maybe taxes.

So.........you over paid..........as usual.........ha!!

I have been looking at those AJ H. Upmanns myself, and I gotta be honest..........getting a “Not Bad” rating from you has me concerned............probably gonna pass unless Puddin (who sucks down everything AJ makes) chimes in to tell me they are awesome.

He's not the only one - there are some udders that love those smokes - Me!

The AJ H. Upmann is medium body with some woody and cocoa flavors, but very smooth. Well worth the money you paid.
A good early to mid-day smoke for me, as I like to end up at full body smokes later in the day.

I grabbed a bunch of AJ Fernandez Tag Team Trifecta Super-Samplers when they first came out from the mothership.
18 smokes with AJ H. Upmann, Gispert Intensos and Monte by Montecristo AJ Fernandez.
$50 at the time. They quickly sold out and went to $100 when I next checked.

A he.ll of a score if I don't say so myself. How's that for some self-flagellation!

the "not bad" word is directly out of the cello with NO aging at all. I am sure after a month or two of marrying they will be way more solid, but still not worth $3.40 per, at least to me.

Yep, it's not a strength-bomb, I'd say medium, but it's got that typical delicious AJ blending profile. It's not a mind-blowing, world-class cigar, but it's very good. Perfect construction, good flavor mix. Recommended.

I did that too, quickly bought quite a few units when they were $50. Then had a nice laugh when it doubled to $100. Winning!

As for my own latest "win", it's a Xikar gift set, a matching pair of an Xi3 cutter and a Vitara lighter (2-jet, integrated punch), both in the same gorgeous 18k rose gold finish, and in a lovely presentation box. All the online retailers I found, if they even have any left, are all selling it for $180-200.

I paid $45 with free shipping.

I'd say that's a win!

I just got it in the mail and had a look, and... holy crap was it a good grab, yes! They're gorgeous, and the clamshell "presentation" box is oversized with an alligator-skin-like shiny black material covering it and has spring-loaded hinges with a magnetic closure, it snaps open and shut smartly. A card inside is signed by the two founders of Xikar, and it says that it's a one-time holiday 2016 release and only 600 were produced. The Xi3 and Vitara in 18k rose gold are both just stunning, the cutter is sharp as heck and the lighter works flawlessly... but it's the look that's amazing. I can see why it sold/sells for $200!

Looks like the "very well-known" place is occasionally getting in tiny quantities of that 18k rose gold Xikar gift set which then sell out again quickly. Might be just 1 at a time, maybe they're releasing them in little dribs and drabs over time. I just saw one appear ($64.95 meaning $53.91 after using one of the longstanding 17%-off-$50+ codes) then disappear.

Might want to keep your eyes on the site and see if any reappear in the coming days, and jump on it, if so, as it's seemingly just 1 at a time. It's a steal at $54 or even significantly more than that.

Pudding, you must have one helluva collection of lighters and cutters!

All the "extra" ones I have through stoopid bidding - "Oh, let's see how low I can bid to win..." or putting in for 5, hoping to get one but then winning 3, etc. - are tucked away in a box in a corner of my closet. I've definitely given more away than put to use (...kinda like my cigars...).

I Googled and saw an image of the set - wow! But you know, for this beautiful set that you won at a great price, I could *never* take out into public. For one thing, I'm afraid I might lose it, someone would steal it, or the clumsy in me would drop it (...especially after a few drinks...). Heck, I'd be apprehensive to use it at home!

But, bottomline, nice snag! (...but what are you going to do with all those $100 bills that you used to use to light your cigars with?...Sarcasm )

Yeah, I have schittload of Xikar stuff. But hey, I don't collect anything else, so... it's my one vice!

Yes, this set I will use only at home, and only while sober, and very carefully so I never drop them. Too gorgeous to not take such precautions.

For going out, walking around, drinking bourbon and being a bit tipsy, holding other things while cutting a cigar, and other drop-prone situations and environments, I have a "rough service" Xikar setup consisting of an X8 cutter and Stratosphere lighter. Both have very highly damage-resistant finishes (X8 is a durable black resin, Stratosphere is a hard rubber). I haven't been able to "ding" or scratch or mark either of them yet, even after many drops onto concrete and other impact events. Also, functionally they're top-notch, excellent cuts and excellent lights.

If you need a tough-as-nails cutter and lighter set you can mistreat with no damage, consider that pairing. Also lifetime warranty, so even if you back your truck over them or otherwise break/destroy them (which isn't easy to do), they get turned into new ones anyway. Forever.

Oh, for extra redneck points, make a single custom-fitted carrying sheath that holds both the X8 and Stratosphere.... out of black Gorilla Tape (like duct tape but thicker and stronger). It's fun to do, it's practical, and the sheath is almost as tough as the two things inside it!

$100 bills are made for buying commission-free, ultra-low-expense, well-diversified ETF shares, not for lighting cigars! Herfing

Picked up a box of Todos Las Dias the other day, plus some singles from the MB3 place that I added on... bc I bought that sweet looking San Cristobal Ashtray that I've been looking at forever. Maybe not a sweet ashtray to a lot of you guys with expensive and/or custom stuff, but I'm still using the four finger tray that Altadis sent me as a freebie for buying a box of RYJ Reserva Real...8 years ago. Lol

other than a box or two per year of Cubans I very rarely buy cigars on line anymore, but I continue to routinely monitor a few sites.

So the other evening on the scary/well known site, I saw a fiver of Diesel Whiskey Row robs for $21 with freight (not the sherry cask)...though I wasn't interested I looked at a few reviews cuz I see so many people smoke this brand. I may have had a couple of others from them over the years, don't recall enjoying them much, but don't remember hating either.

Reviews seemed to align with stuff I currently enjoy and most said medium strength, but I passed and kept scrolling. On page two the same cigar brand and size was listed as a "promo10"...10 of the robs for $23 shipped (and tax)..
I ordered them, then quickly emailed customer service to make sure it was 10 of the same cigar...the description could have been taken two different ways, one as a mixed sampler of robustos from Diesel, the other stating sampler consists of 2 five packs of whiskey row robustos.

CS confirmed the next morning, both via email and on the phone.

so 10 Diesel Whiskey Row robustos for $23.35 with shipping and tax (PA sites have been charging me tax the last couple of orders).
You guys go through a lot of Diesels, did I get the standard deal or stumble on a winner?
Either way, hope I like them, if not I can move them out at a very short loss on my investment

$2+ for a Diesel not made by AJ these days isn't an earth shattering deal.
But if YOU like them, then yeah........good deal.

Ordered a cabinet of Warped Lirio Rojo for $375, thought that seemed a good deal with all the hype going around. I've never actually had any of the Warped cigars but have been hearing lots of good things and the size-format of these appealed to me.

How's this for a deal? This is at the main CI site:

40 - Oliva Serie V Maduro Double Robustos (5x54)
2 - Montecristo Espada Guard (6" x 50)
2 - Romeo 505 Nicaraguan by Romeo y Julieta Toro (6" x 52)
1 - Vertigo 60-ring cutter
1 - Palio triple torch lighter
1 - Metal U-shaped cigar rest
4 x $20 CI Bucks cards

Price: $139.96
Net Price: $59.96 (after subtracting the $80 Bucks cards' value)

Net price per stick: $59.96 / 44 cigars = $1.36 per cigar, plus free accessories, free-shipped.

How to do? Put four of the "10-pack plus $20 Bucks card" Oliva V Maduros in your cart, that's $44.99 x 4 = $179.96, free shipping kicks in because that's over $150, now apply code ONYX for $40 off orders over $150 which brings it down to $139.96, then also apply code VAYCAY for the free extra 4 cigars and the free accessories. Because four $20 Bucks cards are in the box, it brings the final net price down to $59.96 free-shipped.

I'll bet you will never, ever see net pricing like this on Oliva Serie V Maduro 5x54s, especially not with a decent package of bonus cigars and accessories thrown on top!

Enjoy! And, you're welcome! Herfing

It’s almost 2020.
The way I see it?
These days, ANY cigar that you like enough to buy again, that can be had for $2?
That’s a no brainer WIN!

I've seen indications that the Diesel / Man O' War stuff is indeed still made by AJ's factory. Several times CI has outright and clearly said so, in newly-written blocks of text (e.g. for brand-new deals or products), not just "initially blended by AJ" but "made by AJ in his factory" and such.

So, not sure who or what to believe. CI's phone people are PA-based and super friendly (one time I got on a 20-minute tangent with a CI phone rep debating which PA pizza places are best, that was great). So I suppose one/some of us can just call and ask if AJ still is actually making these lines.

Regardless, I haven't gotten any bad ones, even recent ones, although I haven't bought any super-recently (last 6 months or so), if I remember right.

You're right about that. Inflation is a b!tch. So glad I bought a schitt-ton of cigars years ago back when prices were much lower, and still have like 95% of them. Woohoo! Herfing

I'd encourage everyone to use the same technique now, to avoid doubled prices (and bans, and dumbed-down FDA-cleared weak blends, etc. etc.) years from now.

As for $2 good cigars, I said it before and I'll say it again, try the 601 Steel by Erik Espinosa. The "very well-known" cigar shop and their discount "scary" site frequently has them for about $2 each after using one of the standing 17%/20% discount codes. They're fine, upstanding Nicaraguans, medium-full, great draw, great flavors, quite enjoyable and well-behaved burn-wise, for cheap.
