That's awesome... One of the reasons i like the lancero - lanceros in general - you have to take your time with them... You draw too much or too fast and the whole cigar goes South...

I bought a single of this blend the other day, will prolly let it rest for a few months to get a more accurate reflection of of how it would be if I bought five or ten of them and buried them in the humidor..

I plan to re-vist the Le bijou (which I didnt like), and try the La Promesa, La Opulencia and the La Antiguedad next spring.

Have to say that I dont have high expectations though. Im more of an original My Father and Don Pepin Blue guy. It seems like the new My Father stuff is geared more to the medium and mefium/full market. We'll see. I can do medium/full if the flavor is there...

How's this for a deal? This is at the main CI site:

40 - Oliva Serie V Maduro Double Robustos (5x54)
2 - Montecristo Espada Guard (6" x 50)
2 - Romeo 505 Nicaraguan by Romeo y Julieta Toro (6" x 52)
1 - Vertigo 60-ring cutter
1 - Palio triple torch lighter
1 - Metal U-shaped cigar rest
4 x $20 CI Bucks cards

Price: $139.96
Net Price: $59.96 (after subtracting the $80 Bucks cards' value)

Net price per stick: $59.96 / 44 cigars = $1.36 per cigar, plus free accessories, free-shipped.

How to do? Put four of the "10-pack plus $20 Bucks card" Oliva V Maduros in your cart, that's $44.99 x 4 = $179.96, free shipping kicks in because that's over $150, now apply code ONYX for $40 off orders over $150 which brings it down to $139.96, then also apply code VAYCAY for the free extra 4 cigars and the free accessories. Because four $20 Bucks cards are in the box, it brings the final net price down to $59.96 free-shipped.

I'll bet you will never, ever see net pricing like this on Oliva Serie V Maduro 5x54s, especially not with a decent package of bonus cigars and accessories thrown on top!

Enjoy! And, you're welcome! Herfing

Personal opinion:

Le bijou - meh...

La gran oferta - meh...

La opulencia - good...

La antiguedad - really good $3 cigar, not really my fatheresque...

Original my father - love em...

La Promesa lancero - love em a little more...

But you can't use the gift cards on that order correct?

Correct. The Bucks cards are physical cards that come in the physical box you receive. Each has a code string that you can enter on FUTURE orders to reduce their cost.

Hence why I always say "net price" when it comes to these Bucks deals. You still have to shell out the full amount up-front, in this case it'd be $44.99 x 4 = $179.96 - $40 ONYX discount = $139.96 but in the box will be four $20 Bucks cards with the codes printed on them.

If you live close enough to CI, and/or the Bucks sale lasts long enough, you can get the cards and immediately place another identical order and apply them to it, which would mean the second order would cost you $139.96 - $80 = $59.96 and you get another four $20 Bucks cards in that box, too!

The "recursive orders" are great, if you can manage to make them in time! If not, just hold onto the cards until some other crazy CI deal happens, and apply them to it. Watch the cards' expiration dates though.

Oh I had no intention of buying any. I just got the email that they were "going fast" and went to look. Nope, for that price I'll buy anejos.

I like some Aging Room and haven't had that one, but man it's hard to picture them making the best cigar for the entire year.

$200 a box?
Yeah, there’s about 20 other cigars I can think of without even trying, that I’d buy first,
Heck, there’s $100 boxes that can be won, that I’d bet are better.
And, it’s definitely not as good as the CAO Brazilia!

The Opie was right.

Well, more right than CA.......I have never had a cigar Raphael makes that I thought was worth more than $5 and certainly not COTY

Cigar Aficionado must not have included the La Promesa lancero in their reviews for the COTY...

I thought it was better than the #6 Oliva V lancero and the #11 Espinosa Habano no.4, the only other cigars on the list that I've had this year...

surprised there were no Micallef products on the list...the two I tried this year were slightly better, imho, than the La Promesa (apologies to Opel)...

was The Tabernacle up for consideration this year, or was it a 2018 product? ...the lancero is excellent...

IIRC the COTY is only picked from the cigars that they have reviewed during that year, in their mag, not every cigar that was introduced and certainly not every cigar available.

That means that only about 700-800 cigars were eligible.

Tonight I had one of the Oliva V Maduro double robustos and one of the Henry Clay Stalk Cut toro cigars from the "10-pack plus $20 bucks card" deals.

ROTT (Right Off The Truck), both were very good. Letting them acclimate should make them better still, then some age, even better than that.

The Henry Clay Stalk Cut was perfectly rolled and box-pressed, heavy and dense with uniform packing along the whole length, closed foot. It felt like quality! Great mix of flavors, nice complexity, medium-full body, very satisfying.

The Oliva V Maduro was like a regular Oliva V, but with an extra richness and layer of flavor from the maduro wrapper. Equally good as the regular V just in a slightly different way. Again, well-rolled, well-filled, great construction and burn, high quality.

Both were an absolute crazy deal at a buck-something each net price.

They do this deal twice yearly, May and December, so May is the next time to get in on it.

Can't wait to see what a bit of age does to these!

I was glad to see 2 lanceros on the list. Maybe this is a sign that the trend of horse d*ick sized cigars is going away.
