That's easy. You have plenty of stock on hand from which to smoke.

Then you let the new stuff hang out for a couple weeks.

Dude, they're your cigars. Fire away. BigGrin

I have found though that right out of the mailbox, they generally don't burn as well and taste, well, not ready.

Pull one or two, bed the rest. Forget about it.

It's tough. But once you get a little stash built up, it's easier. I have several cabs of tats and several boxes of Fuentes I have not even opened. Just buried them to let them rest. Well, I gifted a few, but other than that they're in the humi at 65/65 sleeping and getting better.

But, you are king, of when they're ready for smoking. The czar of your cigars. The knight of when to light. Yeah, luckily, while we yearn to burn, it is by the burn we learn.

Have a go. Make notes, press on.

Some good advice in the above posts. ^^^

Back when I first got into cigars, I made the nOOb mistake of taking a couple of recently arrived Short Stories to Vegas and lit one up as we were killing time waiting to check in. Iirc, they were the first SS I had ever won and although I had normally put my shipments away for at least 3 weeks, this time I had no self-restraint. They were terrible. Harsh and yet flat as anything. It was so bad I almost swore off Cameroon wrappers but later realized I had fugged up by smoking them too soon. A lesson learned and I would never again smoke anything from an online vendor without proper rest.

I should've smoked my Balmorals or RoMa Crafts or Padrons thatve been resting instead of my newly delivered boutique's but self control isn't a strong suit.

Many years ago I opened a new box of Fuente Sharks and found mold. They used to ship with a HumiPac in each box. That has changed but I always at least open and inspect every box when it arrives. If it's a Cuban box, I will smoke one to make a note of how long before I try another.

Check your tubos and dress boxes of CCs every few months. Literally EVERY mold problem I've ever had has been with tubos and dress boxes.

I'm good on those. I don't have any tubos, and my cc's are all in trays in the winador. I'm going to keep an eye on the coffins I have though. Thanks.

All good advice but this^ and what I'm about to lay on you is extremely important. The inspection of every 5'r or box should be followed by a 72 hour frozen nap.You may see a beetle hole in a cigar.....I've seen them bore all the way thru cellophane however their eggs laid deep within the tobacco are undetectable.Place the 5'r/whole box in a sealable bag then toss them in the freezer. This kills any beetles along with any stowaway eggs/It's a one time treatment...……...nothing enters my humidor without going thru this process regardless of it's source. As your stash grows you'll be glad you did...…..cheap insurance from beetles is the way I see it and after retrieving them from the freezer a nice humid nap is then in order...…….helps you keep your hands off of them. Most sticks I lay down for minimum 6 months but many I know it will be years before I touch them.As you progress you'll figure out which ones benefit the most from a long nap.

I'd add cedar sleeve wrapped sticks to this list as well. All my Fuente SG's have the sleeve removed....I had a problem once.

I usually just randomly inspect 3-4 out of the box maybe once a year.If I find even one with that fake plume I pull all the sleeves and re-box them. For some reason the Fuente SG wrappers wrapped in cedar are bad about growing a light mold.Never had to toss one it usually is on the wrapper and just wipes right off.

Good luck

Here’s some great advice:

Buy a lot.

Then you can smoke a lot and still have a lot.

I’m a problem solver

Great advice and info from all thanks so much. I'm going to need a bigger humidor to accomplish this mission. Still open to detailed nuance on what I miss by not waiting. Gonna start taking notes. I also need recommendations on larger count powered humidor and where to buy (if kosher for forum rules) I've been looking on Amazon. Currently I have a 200 count box humidor with a 60 gram 69rh boveda pack but it's at capacity (the lid barely closes)so I have a large freezer Ziploc bag on top with a small boveda pack in it. My lunch cooler is about to get stuffed with cigars. Do I have a problem or is this normal?

Very “normal”...
Here’s a 5 dollar 200+ count humi I made for overflow issues 9+ years ago.
It would hold probably closer to 400 in singles and fivers.

What all the others said, as well as those damn paperboard cartons that some cigars are in, they're where I've been burned the most with mold. Once you get into the word of CC's, don't be worried about getting sealed boxes, they are checking for mold and other problems. I won't ever make the mistake of asking for sealed boxes again.

I would advise you to get the 150 qt Coleman cooler when Wal-mart runs them on sale, usually 40-60 bucks, you will thank me later, add in some cedar boxes from your local, many give them away, some want a few bucks.

Then add beads to your list, and I honestly think 69% isn't worth the bother, 65 is much safer.

Here's a link to how I set up my first two coolers. I still use them, and they are both still full.

I'll sometimes get a couple of 5ers, especially if someone like the Katman really likes it, and then just hope that my palate aligns with him on that particular cigar.
