Believe it or not, I'm still alive and kicking here in NM. I'm getting more troop requests that I can personally fund, so I thought I'd give a shout out to any of you who might want to contribute. I'm also going to post the Troop notes of appreciation here, too, instead of having two separate threads that don't get topped very often. PM me here or email ABQBetty AT Gmail if you need my address/cell or have questions or want to ask about Prickly Pear Jelly that's available (or what to talk dirty....Shame on you Shame on you Shame on you or whatever).

Repeat Requests:
Coyote Brown THORLO thick padded combat over-the-calf socks (sizes M, L & XL)
Dip - Esp. Copenhagen Wintergreen, which seems to be the most requested
Slim Jims
Protein bars

Thanks from Troops who received OpFTH boxes from me:

Beth, As always your boxes are amazing. It just arrived today. Can't wait to share with the cigar club. We meet every Friday and Saturday night here. Thanks again. SFC John O.

Ma'am, Thanks again for all the cigars and goodies I just got the first package and am really grateful. My soldiers are enjoying the cigars and pipes as well. Very Respectfully, SGT Jaymz S.

To the Team at Operation From the Heart, As I reach the end of my tour, I wanted to provide one final thank you before heading home. While I still have a few weeks left, it has been incredible to receive the two packages from your organization. I cannot describe the immense pleasure and satisfaction it has been to share these packages with members of our team from all over the globe. With the cooler weather here in Iraq we gathered almost nightly to enjoy the snacks, cigars, and pipes around a small fire. Being able to share something with each other, and savor small luxuries was an immense joy and distraction from the normal day. The corn cob pipes were actually quite a hit, as many people didn't realize that they were an actual thing. Regardless, it was a true treat, and I wanted to let you know from the bottom of our hearts here in Iraq how much it meant to receive them from you all. So from Matt, Si, Dave, Z, Jake, Phil, Al, Todd, Laurence, and many others. Thank you! MAJ. Matt B.

Are baby wipes still a big thing too? Do you have a list of things needed? I understand those are the most requested but is there anything else we can grab? Reading materials etc?

Also, for the Copenhagen do they want the pouches or the loose long cut? My wife is going to see if the Men's group and Women's group at Synagogue can put a drive together when they get back in session in September. I know they won't buy dip, but the sock's and other necessities plus cash for shipping they might be able to swing. I'll pm for some other details.

Zito has been hammering me like crazy! (Uh, with troop donations). The boxes have landed, and here's a thank-you. I sent another package to these guys yesterday. Requests: Cigars, cigar cutters, humi-packs, smokeless tobacco/dip (any kinds are appreciate, Copenhagen long cut seems to be popular by request),slim jims, and protein bars are always appreciated. Socks in men's M & L (coyote brown) are always a requested item. This time of year chocolate doesn't fare well, except for M&M's, although the guys eat it regardless.

Thanks for your generosity! -B

Hello!

My name is IT3 Huerta and I am onboard the USS Boxer currently on deployment.
Right now we are in the Middle East waters and it is hot.
I received your care package of cigars and dip and I appreciate it so much!
The ship offers Cigar Night every other Friday at a high part of the ship so we can enjoy the sunset with cigars.
Thing is, not many of us packed cigars. I don't think we have any besides the ones you sent.
We would love to get another box of cigars and dip! Copenhagen Mint and Wintergreen are the favorites.
All I ask is for whatever you would like to send. We appreciate it so much!

We return hopefully during the end of December 2019.

Thank you!

Very Respectfully,
IT3 (IW/AW) Huerta

What would be a good mix of sizes?

Example:

1 pair-M
3 pairs-L
1 pair-XL

I am on a site that has them on sale for $11.55 a pair so I was interested in what a good mix of sizes would be.

Beth, the uniform shop at the arsenal has 3 packs of boot socks for $6.21. They're an OD green though, which is the Army's standard. Those good?

I'm drumming up for folks that want to kick in and i"ll go buy a bunch to get out on Tuesday.

Sounds great - I'm going to be working off the grid with no email access for a couple of weeks, but my staff will pick up the mail every day so everything will be safely waiting for me when I get back. Thanks! -B

Would it be better to hold off on sending cigars then? That might work out as I have some cutters on order but not here yet.

Greetings fellow Cigar Enthusiasts,

My Infantry Company is here in Afghanistan and we hold a ‘family night’ event on Sundays as we sit around and smoke cigars. We spend this time dedicated to decompressing and not focusing on the war right outside our COP (Combat Out Post). I don’t know how active this thread is, but I wanted to reach out and see if I could drum up some packages for my Paratroopers. My church back home sent us plenty of baby wipes and snacks, but won’t send tobacco products. I was curious if anyone could please donate some cigars and Copenhagen. We are NOT picking as any support is awesome. My address is:

[PM me for Address]

Our dates are sensitive information for re-deployment, but we have more time. You can PM me if you have questions. Once again, thanks for your thoughts and prayers and may God continue to Bless American and our Troops.

I'm in Captain. Us squids always love helping out our doggie brethren. Especially the dopes on ropes. Shame on you

I was just putting some stuff together, might as well send some direct. I'm scared to ask how many of you guys smoke? But I'll toss in what I can.

Thanks Brett! We'll add you to our ship list at OpFTH (www.OpFTH.org), and let them know you're already getting "church packages", and would prefer cigars and dip. We don't post military addresses here for security reasons, but it's certainly your address to post as you wish. It sounds like you'll be getting some direct packages, please feel free to PM me if your guys are not getting any cigars and dip directly.

Thank-you for your service, and I'll get you out a cigar package over the weekend! -B

To anyone who is sending a package directly to our Troops, you will need the USPS Customs form, found online, and the USPS customs envelope, available at the USPS counter. Also, please review the USPS rules around what can and cannot be sent, based on Country. In addition to the usual USPS prohibitions, US Troops in the middle ease are not allowed to receive any pork products, alcohol or home-made food. All of those will cause the package be returned to you, usually in a condition so that nothing is salvageable. Sending cigars is no problems, but lighters won't get through (sometimes they even refuse empty lighters), and you'll get the package back; matches are okay.

Thank you B! Blessed to have you as a supporter of our division. USS Boxer thanks you!
I think I'm off to smoke a cigar? Hahaha. If the schedule doesn’t change, were a few days away from just 100 days left!

Hello! Hope you had a good break. So far our return time is still mid-December.
Only changes are that we were supposed to pull into land in a week and another visit 3 weeks later..
But that's cancelled because we got prolonged in our current location.
So now we won't be pulling into land for another almost 50 days.
It sucks but it is what it is.
Same address as before. That will never change while I'm onboard the XXXXX.
Thank you for looking out for us. You are very much appreciated.

Thanks to all for your generous donations - it means the world to these guys and gals. -B

I just can’t believe that someone as kind as you as well as your organization would be so thoughtful to send packages to those of us that are serving overseas. May god bless you and the OPFTH organization. Thanks again! Sgt. Jesse Salamanca

Thanks! I can always use more socks to send, especially this time of year...when hell freezer over. I always think of the middle east as being warm, but the guys in Afghanistan get below zero temps and snow.

I bought all the cutters and humi-packs I can afford (from C-Bid/Cigars Intl of course), but definitely need more. Thanks!! -B
