Been dealing with sinus congestion and headaches for about 4 days. In the midst of a bad headache I took off to Walgreens to get one of those plastic bottles that come with the salt packets so I could flush my sinuses. Used to have one but, I can’t find it.

So I squirted about 1/3 of a cup up each side. I’ve used them before so I knew I’d have vertigo for a few minutes afterwards. I felt like I was in the matrix. Seems I was rotating on a least 4 axis at the same time. I grabbed the countertop and hung on for what felt like an eternity when in reality it was a minute or so. But, my headache is gone so it was worth the magic carpet ride.

Niel Med Sinus Rinse. I use it whenever I get a sinus infection, but it has never done that to me.

Sounds like you were just looking for an excuse to snort bath salts.

still use my trusty neti pot and Neil Med Saline Sinus rinse packets...

wonder if abrignac's vertigo is caused by the rinsing liquid getting into his inner ear?

Glad you're doing better, sounds rough, especially the 4 day headache.

I've fought sinus problems most of my life. Constant drainage, etc. After the lung full of blood clots, I was put on an Advair Diskus, Singulair and a Flonase sniffer every day. I told my doctor I knew he was just trying to keep me on steroids. Such is my life.

I've also suffered from sinus problems my entire life...few years ago, had surgery for deviated septum and turbinate bone reduction which helped somewhat...but symptoms slowly returned, but not as severe...

best thing was not replacing our cats when they died...

living in smoggy SoCal is the issue...have to take Flonase and a steroid inhaler daily...

Try alkalol. It’s an essential oil based rinse that opens things up.

Thanks, TW,
Haven't seen that locally, but may have to give it a try during the terrible tree pollen season in the early Spring. The worst time for me is when they spray the crop defoliant around here in the last summer/fall. That stuff is poison!!! Little, if anything helps while that stuff is in the air. I have a highly sensitive and discerning palate, I can smell the stuff from miles away. Wife finally learned to believe me, she can barely smell it. Although one rate last two years she has become more aware of the smell and admits it's a pain in the head!

you used to live here in SoCal, Numi...did the smog make things worse for you?

I ask because my symptoms seem to improve somewhat when I vacation in Hawaii, where the prevailing winds blow the smog away...

I only "lived there" a few weeks at a time, when I was traveling all over the COUntry with that buying group. Although when you stay in CA for a few months out of a year, it's almost the same as living there, AND Yes, I definitely had more drainage, headaches, etc. Especially when we would be in Culver City, right next to the 405!!!

Sinus problems are a pain. I have allergies, get two shots every two weeks, it has helped a ton, but... I also get migraines and migraines symptoms often present as sinus problems.

I know of a surgeon that used to do sinus roto-router surgeries and got into migraine management because too many patients got no relief from the surgery, their problem was actually migraines.

Grab a bottle of saline solution and add 10 drops of tea tree oil to it. Shake well and then good to go. Spray as needed.

I used Sinus Buster for several years then suddenly I cleared up...….not completely but say 98.2%.It seems SB is no longer available but a replacement called "Nasol" is supposed the exact same ingredients which are all natural. It's made from capsaicin extract so the first couple uses will snap your neck back...…...but it works and that's what matters.

Now days my sinus issues are very minor...…..I keep a sports bottle in the shower and when needed I fill it with a little sea salt and warm water, one helluva sinus flush.

The adventure last night did the trick. Was completely clear when I woke up. Been good to go sense. It’s nice that the magic carpet ride had a happy ending. I’d hate to have had the experience without the benefits. Kinda like 🍄 tea. IIRC it tasted like hyena ass but the ride was definitely worth it.

I have suffered from severe sinus issues for years - ever since I lost a collision at home plate (catcher) in high school and had my nose broken in 4 spots along with a broken collar bone and concussion. Fast forward 40 years and I had to have surgery to correct the deviated septum and crushed sinus cavities. I use the NeilMed sinus rinses every day and twice a day during allergy season. My Doc has also perscribed a capsule (budesonide/mometasone) that I add to the rinse in the morning that helps reduce swelling.
Be sure to heat the distilled water in the microwave to warm it beforehand - helps reduce the shock from cold water. The rinse works wonders - you might be amazed by what junk comes out the first few times you do it.
And just like your humidor, only used distilled water.

Don’t use kitty litter either.

Distilled water is not uncomfortable at all. Bottled water kinda burned... never used tap.

The instructions tell you to use distilled water.

I had my sinuses Roto-Rootered about 5 years ago. My Dr. had me buy the NeilMed solution and use it 3x a day. It was so cool blowing out all the blood clots. Cindy and I flew to spend a weekend my sister and her family. I asked my 6 year old nephew if he wanted to watch something cool. He said yes so I told him to come by the sink and watch my nose. As soon as he had a good vantage point I squirted about half a bottle up one side. Of course blood cloths came out the other side. He got grossed out. Oh well.

Brain eating critters only exist in tap water from Flint Michigan.

But seriously if this were true just think what this water would do if you drank it.If you ever wake up with amoebic dysentery believe me you'll remember exactly where you got it.

"Distilled Water", the typical water you buy as distilled is not heat distilled and not sterile. They use reverse osmosis and or ion exchange resins to remove all the minerals from the water. It's fine for irons, but should not be considered sterile.

I'm no expert but I do think it's good enough to remove the brain eating bug. I think some filters can too. I used to have a cvs branded nasal rinse bottle with a built in filter allowing you to use tap water (I didn't).

I just use distilled and my navage and if it eats my brain its my time LOL

I think you're confusing "purified water" with distilled water. Distillation is a process. I would not call distilled water sterile though regardless.

Walmart and most drug stores also sell sterilized water, which is in fact sterile.

If they use RO it's sterile. Pore size on an RO filter is smaller than the diameter of viral particles. Standard RO purification is used for injectable products from pharma.
Ion exchange is much different than RO and should not be lumped in together. Perhaps you are confusing purified water with deionized water? DI water is different than purified and you generally use DI water for chemical experiments. DI water is achieved after passing water across ion exchange resins and does not actually say anything about the purification.

Bottom line - RO is generally considered more sterile than heat distilled. DI is not RO, but water can be both purified and then deionized if necessary.

US Navy ships have pretty much gotten away from flash distillers/evaps and have gone to RO purifiers.

RO's are much more efficient and don't break down as much.

RO may be energy efficient (I honestly don't know if it is or is not).... but they are a huge waste of fresh water. The amount of water waste used in flushing the RO membranes is huge. Maybe there's a lot of waste in distillation as well? I don't know.... I just remember being shocked at how much water was sent to drain (in California no less!) to create RO purified water.
