Coronavirus is one of those fun ones that can exist in animal populations for years and be transferred to humans occasionally with the right mutations.
I believe they are considering the civet and the bat as the species most likely to be the origin of this particular strain of the coronavirus (we've had it run around before... remember SARS? and also MERS? Those were also coronavirus... just a different strain. Hell, the common cold is a coronavirus.)
But it's not the "unsanitary conditions". It's people in proximity to these animals. So likely wild meat handlers.
