I've seen indications that the Diesel / Man O' War stuff is indeed still made by AJ's factory. Several times CI has outright and clearly said so, in newly-written blocks of text (e.g. for brand-new deals or products), not just "initially blended by AJ" but "made by AJ in his factory" and such.

So, not sure who or what to believe. CI's phone people are PA-based and super friendly (one time I got on a 20-minute tangent with a CI phone rep debating which PA pizza places are best, that was great). So I suppose one/some of us can just call and ask if AJ still is actually making these lines.

Regardless, I haven't gotten any bad ones, even recent ones, although I haven't bought any super-recently (last 6 months or so), if I remember right.

You're right about that. Inflation is a b!tch. So glad I bought a schitt-ton of cigars years ago back when prices were much lower, and still have like 95% of them. Woohoo! Herfing

I'd encourage everyone to use the same technique now, to avoid doubled prices (and bans, and dumbed-down FDA-cleared weak blends, etc. etc.) years from now.

As for $2 good cigars, I said it before and I'll say it again, try the 601 Steel by Erik Espinosa. The "very well-known" cigar shop and their discount "scary" site frequently has them for about $2 each after using one of the standing 17%/20% discount codes. They're fine, upstanding Nicaraguans, medium-full, great draw, great flavors, quite enjoyable and well-behaved burn-wise, for cheap.
.

I like the steel, and it is a good cigar, but last month (before the 601 thread was posted), I won a couple dozen 601 Greens here for 1.50, and a dozen 601 reds for a buck. The 601 thread put an end to that. But over the past few weeks, I've won over 200 of my regulars here for a buck each. I'm not saying what they are, as the bids will go up but they are decent everyday smokes that go for up to $3 - $4 each during the Spring and Summer. And no, they are not Gurhkas, Diesels, Padillas, RPs, ADs or any of the mother ship's long line of yard gars.

Oh, sure, 601 Steel and even better cigars than that can be found for cheaper (like my recent find of $1.36 each net price Oliva Serie V Maduros with free ship and bonus accessories too), and I regularly get deals like you describe, but that's generally with a lot of effort, patience, time spent monitoring sites and promo codes, waiting for auctions to end, and quite a bit of specialized knowledge. The average guy isn't willing to do all that, so I can't recommend it to a general audience.

I'm talking deals that an average guy can do easily without that sort of hassle (e.g. go to "scary site", click click, done). I recommend that, and the $2-ish prices involved, for the average guy.

Also, if you think Diesels are yard gars, you haven't aged them for a long time. Some of them turn into amazing sticks after several years.

How's this for a deal? This is at the main CI site:

40 - Oliva Serie V Maduro Double Robustos (5x54)
2 - Montecristo Espada Guard (6" x 50)
2 - Romeo 505 Nicaraguan by Romeo y Julieta Toro (6" x 52)
1 - Vertigo 60-ring cutter
1 - Palio triple torch lighter
1 - Metal U-shaped cigar rest
4 x $20 CI Bucks cards

Price: $139.96
Net Price: $59.96 (after subtracting the $80 Bucks cards' value)

Net price per stick: $59.96 / 44 cigars = $1.36 per cigar, plus free accessories, free-shipped.

How to do? Put four of the "10-pack plus $20 Bucks card" Oliva V Maduros in your cart, that's $44.99 x 4 = $179.96, free shipping kicks in because that's over $150, now apply code ONYX for $40 off orders over $150 which brings it down to $139.96, then also apply code VAYCAY for the free extra 4 cigars and the free accessories. Because four $20 Bucks cards are in the box, it brings the final net price down to $59.96 free-shipped.

I'll bet you will never, ever see net pricing like this on Oliva Serie V Maduro 5x54s, especially not with a decent package of bonus cigars and accessories thrown on top!

Enjoy! And, you're welcome! Herfing

Now they've also activated promo code BUMPTRAY, which gets you a nice ceramic 4-rest, raised-on-feet ashtray with Alec Bradley logo and abstract artwork all over the sides of it, for free.

BUMPTRAY can be stacked on top of the codes above, believe it or not, resulting in all the goodness you see above PLUS the ashtray, making the deal quite a bit better.

Just FYI.

Confirmed, and ONYX is also expired now.

Only BUMPTRAY remains active.

Ah well, it was good while it lasted. I can confirm that there was a time window earlier today where all three could be used simultaneously and successfully on a single order. It was glorious! Herfing

Bought myself Christmas this year, here at cbid.
A hand full of various singles/fivers of cigars I’ve been wanting to try, a cob pipe, etc.
Best scores were
A cbid Quickie T-shirt................$1..............this will probably go to BIL.
FOUR 4oz tins of Plum Pudding Special Reserve at $11/ea......................Could be my best cbid score ever.

I used to be a big fan of the UC, but all Diesels I've gotten here over the past year have been carp. I guess I'll bury the remaining ones in the bottom of one of my coolers and see what becomes of them.

I'd recommend that, yeah. It might be the same blend but shipped younger recently. Happily, on the end user side, "bury and forget about" fixes that problem, eventually.

Just speculating here though. I have no idea what really happened behind the scenes.

However, you already own the things, so if it's a choice between (1) smoke them now and not enjoy them, (2) throw them out or (3) let them age as an experiment, there's no downside to doing #3.

FYI, got the Alec Bradley "Baby Bump" ashtray today. It's very nice! Quite a good free bonus item.

Big, nice design, stands a good height off the table thanks to four large bump-shaped (hence the name) "feet" with anti-scratch rubber pads on their bottoms. You can put cutters, lighers, etc. under the tray due to this clearance, so it doesn't kill any "footprint space" on your table. Great idea!

It has interesting and pretty cool hand-drawn brand-related artwork, done in a bold red and dark black contasting with the white ceramic. The art is printed excellently (great colors and contrast) and it wraps completely around the outer side of the whole ashtray, including following the contours of the "bump legs" down to cover them too, and I can't tell where the "seam" is, the print looks continuous. Nicely done!

Gonna try to get me another free one when I put another order in tomorrow, if the gift card sale and ashtray promo are still active! Keeping my fingers crossed!

People have mixed feelings about these from the reviews I have seen but I just got 2 boxes of 10x Montecristo by AJ Fernandez Churchill (love this guys stuff) for $80 shipped that also included some Montecristo Buena Fortuna I never had.

For me it is a personal score because I got two of these in a sample pack when I first got into cigars a year ago and smoked one with my neighbor and it was love at first puff for us both. Haven't bought them again until now because the stars never aligned to get a deal of $3 per cigar I try to limit myself to but this Christmas the stars aligned. (yeah I am a cheap a$$)

Bought some more SPC PP on FF, cause I saw lots of others buying, which is the precursor for cbid to lower the drop amount.
So grab em while they’re still cheap briar heads!

Won a fiver of MoW Ruination Robs for.............................$6?
Don’t know if I should be excited...............or worried.
They used to be my favorite MoW back in the day.
Hope they’re still good...........I’ll let em sit for a year or so.

Also won a fiver of MF Connie Robs for $16.50........... not an amazing deal, butI wanted to try these.

Expires midnight tonight (the moment that the 2010s end and the 2020s begin!):

1. Go to CI.
2. Put a $25 gift card in your cart.
3. Enter code 51VUWZSLUKTV
4. Enter code EYDU81H7X7YC
5. Complete order.

Result = a $25 CI gift card (no expire date) and a 5-pack of Nica Libre Toro cigars for $25 with free shipping.

The codes aren't limited to one-time use. You can do this several times if you want. For example, if you want to place four orders which collectively exchange $100 cash for $100 non-expiring CI gift cards, you get a free box of Nica Libre Toro (minus the actual box) and it all ships free too!

Happy new year! Hurry up before it expires!

The 2 questions are;
1. Is the Nica Libre Toro good?
2. Can you use the gift cards towards the "10 pack + 20 dollar gift card" special that comes around every so often?

It's a good smoke. Not high-end of course, but a nice set of Nicaraguan flavors and good burn, construction and draw, last I checked. I like AJ stuff, and he blended them, so it figures I like them too. It has a typical AJ profile, which I find quite tasty. Of course, everyone's palate differs. However if you like Nicaraguan stuff and AJ stuff, you'll probably like these.

You should be able to use the gift cards for anything, at any time, including the December/May "10 packs and $20 bucks card" specials, yep! As far as I know, anyway.

That's what I'm gonna do, wait till May and use them then!

.....A few new cigars I have burned recently and what I thought of them:

Gurkha 130th Anniversary Churchill Tubos (7.5" x 52) Below Average/Fair, even after 6 months of naked aging. Still comes off as slightly harsh and generic. Great presentation covering a generic blend. Typical. What's sad is I see people playing $5 per cigar here for them. BARF!
Gurkha 125th Anniversary Torpedo (6.5" x 52) Good. Much better the the 130th. A solid medium Habano smoke!

Acid Kuba Kuba Candela Robusto (5" x 54) Good. Not worth the MSRP but for $2.50 per a decent mild option.

La Perla Habana White Pearl Churchill Extra (7.5" x 52) Good. =2 Macanudo.

Nat Sherman Epoca Senator (6" x 56) Average.

Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel-Aged Connecticut Epicure (6" x 54) Excellent!

Ashton Heritage Puro Sol Habano Churchill (6.75" x 48) Very good!

Casa Fernandez J.F.R. XT Corojo 654 (6" x 54) Very good!

Padilla Artemis Habano Toro (6" x 54) Very good!

Padilla Serie '68 Corojo Torpedo (6.12" x 52) Average.

Punch Sumatra Pita (6.12" x 50) Average.

Drew Estate Tabak Especial Negra Toro (6" x 52) Good.

Caldwell The King is Dead Robusto (5.5” x 50) Good.

Caldwell Long Live the King Corojo Corona Gorda (5.7” x 46) Good.

Caldwell E.S. Midnight Express Maduro Robusto (5” x 50) Very good!

Caldwell Dos Firmas Connecticut Robusto (4.7” x 52) Very good!

Caldwell Eastern Standard Connecticut Robusto (5” x 50) Average.

.....Just a generic order coming February 1st scored at some great prices:

Pack of 20 AJ Fernandez La Gran Llave Connecticut Churchill (7" x 50) for $57.00 - AWESOME!

Box of 20 Pinar Del Rio Clasico Exclusivo Torpedo (6.5" x 52) for $39.00 - Nice!

Box of 20 Ramon Bueso Exclusivo No. 1 (7.5" x 54) for $24.00 - NICE!

Pack of 15 Man O' War Virtue Churchill (7.5" x 52) for $32.50 - NICE!

Pack of 20 Ave Maria Divinia Toro (6" x 54) for $50.00 - AWESOME!

Pack of 15 Padilla Artemis Torpedo (6.25" x 52) for $29.00 - NICE!

Pack of 20 AJ Fernandez's Box-Pressed Mega-Sampler for $52.80 - NICE!

Pack of 18 Diesel Salomon Super-Sampler for $45.00 - Nice!

Pack of 12 NUBCigar Flight Sampler for $27 - Nice!

and TWO Ave Maria Toro Sampler 6 Box, $15 each Box of 6!

and still out but sure win the NEW Nica Libre AGANORSA Corojo Toro (6" x 52) Pack of 10 for $32.50! About a 50 cents per cigar overbid unless they turn out to be as good as the Nica Libre 25th Anniversary Torpedo.

Hey, if any of you like the Archetype Initiation line, there's a "very-well-known" vendor that's got all boxes on sale for $49.95 right now, and if you add item(s) from their "scary" site totaling $30.05 or more that have free shipping, you will then have exceeded $80 total order value, and can use code FALLRADIO20 to knock $20 off. The code works for anything too, not just the Archetype sale items. FYI, just sayin'....

How are the Archetype Initiations anyway? I never had one myself. Opinions? If they're good, what's the best vitola to get? Thanks.

Never had one but find it quite interesting that boxes of each vitola are all priced at $49.95. Makes me wonder if they didn’t sell very well and they’re being dumped?

Reviews seem to be positive except for one that experienced an initial tight draw and some burn issues with the Corona.

I saw that and I'm conflicted. Had the Axis Mundi which I thought was really good, but have also tried the Fantasy Series Curses which was a bitter experience start to finish

Thanks for the opinions on the Archetype. I'll pass. It was just notable because they're $200/box normally, but if they're lame, who cares, it's irrelevant!

Instead I used the "scary" site to get a Xikar HP4 in the new "sandstone tan" finish for $67.xx with free ship, plus a cheap-but-decent 5-pack which took me BARELY over $80, coupon knocked it down to $60 and of course no shipping. Not bad, and have you seen good-resolution photos of this finish? It's freaking gorgeous, check it out:

I hope it looks that good in person, but I'll bet it does (or better)!

The pics look great! ThumpUp

Are you gonna use it or stash it away?

I have a few extra lighters (...and cutters...), almost all won at low, “I-can’t-believe-I-won!” prices. Gifted both of my cigar smoking nephews Xikar accessories.

I'll use it in rotation with my other Xikars, probably.

Yeah, if you're patient and wait for great deals and code-stacks, or low bids that get accepted here, you can get Xikar stuff very cheap. I got a few Allume single jets for $12 each with free shipping, for example!

Scored a Steve Saka 9 +3 sampler for a great price at the Royal site thanks to referrals from vets here. First time buyer there so I told them so and let them know what I would be interested in getting next and (unbelievable) they're sending me my request gratis!
This forum is AWESOME!

FYI, CI MMAO is free shipping through Saturday, presumably end-of-day at midnight.

I'm putting in some super-cheapass, hard-chiselling, totally unrealistic prices to see if they'll bite. Accepted or rejected, I can't lose either way, because either nothing happens or I get ultra-cheap product! Fun!

^I've tried that with them a few times. They will reject as many times as they feel necessary. Best I ever got was a 5er of Punch Gran Puro Nicaragua for 15.

I outbid "CC of Sacramento" on a box Sobremesas tonight. Sorry if that was you Clint
I think it was $79. A nice add to my bundle of AFR-75 i got for $42. The aprox 15 or so others I won for $2. Each not worth mentioning. Hopefully I'll have the discipline to not win anymore dog rockets between now and Tuesday.

I snagged a box of Oliva Melania Maduros for a very decent price earlier yesterday, along with trying the new Drew Estate Blacks, in the Lonsdale Vitola. Can’t wait to try them out.

I outbid you on something a couple of weeks ago. Your screen name here is easy to spot on the auctions.

My experience has been that they will not bite. You may think it's fun but for me it was a waste of time.

Any of you fellows need a good cutter with a lifetime warranty, this is the lowest price I've ever seen on a Xikar Xi1 that has no logos/brands printed on it, just solid red. $25 and shipped free.

Take the word "cigar", then add the last name of Led Zeppelin's guitarist and founder, then add ".com" and go there. Then search on "Xikar Xi1 Cutter - Red". As I write this, they appear to have 18 left in stock.

I'd get one myself, but I just got an awesome-looking Xi1 from that same place (it's now sold out) that was a limited edition. The box says it was made to honor the Tobacconists' Association of America's 50th annversary (1968-2018), but the cutter itself has no text or logos on it, and is "burnt yellow" (slightly orange-ish bright yellow) with black blades, and daaaaaaaamn is it sweet! Looks and feels awesome, cuts amazingly well! Should perfectly complement my burnt yellow and gunmetal HP3 lighter, woohoo!

UPDATE: SALE HAS ENDED, price is back up again.

The scary site's been having the new Xikar Enso every day, with free shipping, in a different color each day, for $57.98 which is $48.12 after "BOTLORG" code (which gives 17% off $50+ orders).

Alternately you can add other items to get the bill up to $80, then use "FALLRADIO20" to knock $20 off. Thus, if you get your order at exactly $80, that means you're getting 25% off the already-discounted scary price, so the Enso part of the order would cost only $43.49, pretty sweet!

Selling for $100 elsewhere, and a brand-new release by Xikar. Looks pretty cool. I picked up a red one last night. Today's is silver, I think. They've also featured orange and green recently.

There's one YouTube review of it, by a guy with a big beard and Bono-like red-tinted sunglasses. He's a bit of a douche but he does give good info about it. Search YouTube for "Xikar Enso" and you'll find it, channel is called "Cigar Prop".

The Enso is like the XO, but no spring-loading, one handle not two, and the one handle moves both blades in perfect sync. It's a lot thinner than the XO too which is nice.

That's one of the Coronavirus essentials! That, and updating your will, because the media's frothing at the mouth like we're all going to die. They LOVE ratings!

I'm not worried about Coronavirus. I'm worried about the next one, the Dos Equisvirus. Patient Zero is rumored to be The Most Infected Man In The World!
