'Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah on Monday said Washington should “send $1,000 checks to each American.”'

I heard Bernie tried to one up him and said 1,000 dollars plus 12 pack of toilet paper. Lol!

If you were in the service industry or any other position that was hourly and you don't get paid for time off, what would $1000 really do for you if your job was eliminated for any length of time. Sure it would be nice but would it really change anything? That's less than a weeks pay for many servers.

I'm not sure about banana republic given its definition. how about bananas republic :)

the idea is getting traction...my guess is that it will happen...

GW Bush did something similar after the Great Recession, as part of his stimulus/recovery plan...iirc, everybody got a few hundred, max of $600...

cons always criticize and make fun of this, but they'll cash the checks...

seems they think giveaways to big companies is a better use of money...trickle down and all...F the average American, especially those who choose to be poor...

I can think of several better ways to spend ~$331,002,651.

1. Work on our infrastructure.
2. Improve the VA
3. Loans for Small Businesses

On this, we can agree. Pandering is all this is... $1,000 won't do a damn thing for the majority of people.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the White House is supporting this proposal as part of a roughly $850 Billion Stimulus Package. Frying pan

pretty sure all the employees at the bars and restaurants and hotels and casinos and airlines and cruise ships that are seeing their pay cut due to lack of work will appreciate a helping hand...they could really use the money to pay the rent and put food on the table until happy days return

The casino is still tanking, but I like the prices in the gold and silver market right now, if you can find some to buy...

If we really do get that helicopter money I know what I'm doing with a large chunk of it.

Bananas republic indeed. Lol!

It's true that the U.S. has more than a couple of exports, but there are a lot of similarities...

I'm gonna send my check back.
Don't want to encourage the GOP to keep dipping into Socialist solutions every time the economy tanks...even if it works.

Ironically, I clipped my finger nails this morning after showering. I find they are softer and easier to clip.

True story. And then it's taxable income so you get nailed for it later. This kind of crap gets taxed at the "bonus" rates.
