Maybe there will be something in there for the Dreamers Trump F***** over. Maybe there will be something in there to re fund Obama care since the Republicans have came up with no alternative. Maybe there will be something in there to buy PPE and vents Americans so desperately need.

Just watched a news conference on the bill. Republicans claim that the Bill includes $960 a week ($24 an hour) in unemployment benefits. They are hoping that it is a clerical error. Why would anyone making $7 to $23 a hour go back to work when you can get paid $24 a hour to sit home? Heck, even those making more may elect to sit home for $960 a week. If this was not a clerical error, then it was a direct attempt by the Democrats to slowdown or stall the recovery after the lockdown has ended.

Businesses owned by lawmakers or the executive branch can not receive any benefits from this Bill. I guess that blows a hole in the latest leftist claim that Trump was going to reap millions if not billions from the stimulus.

As a self-employed individual I should put myself on unemployment insurance immediately. Anyone know how long you have to be paying to collect before getting fired? Cuz I already want to fire me and I already want to get fired. Win win win

is the "Trump will reap millions claim" available on any major news outlet?

To be fair it was a claim a few days ago.
The original proposals from the republican senate was basically "pile of money which Trump and Mnuchin (I think that was the other person identified) would be able to distribute as they see fit"....

As expected, a number of dems had a problem with that and the accusation was lobbed that a lot of that pile would likely end up in trump family owned businesses.

That was why that clause was actually added.

Let me reiterate.
Our president is so untrustworthy with his current dealings with government money that we have to add a specific "you don't get to profit off this bailout" clause during a pandemic. Because without it there is every reason to believe he would attempt to. And his supporters want to focus on the fact that there were people upset about that issue.

pretty sure they're gonna get to an agreement...Trump is insistent that something big happens to jolt the economy...and he's gonna torch anyone who gets in the way...why do you think his economic arm twister, Steve Mnuchin, has been living in the Halls of Congress the past week or so?

Trump's objective is not the health and well-being of American citizens...or even American business in general...

his primary objective for any decision is for November 2020: his re-election chances increase dramatically if the economy is in recovery and trending upward in September, October and November (the earlier the better)...doesn't matter if thousands of Americans have died or the American medical services system is in ruins...average peeps don't matter and rebuilding the medical services industry would be an economic opportunity...

all the noise, lies and contradictions Trump has spouted since the start of the pandemic doesn't matter...polls show that a good majority (55 -60%) of Americans approve of how he's handled this emergency...

just saw some leaked reports of stuff in the Plan...wow...lotta wasteful crap, but if the idea was to drown the pandemic in money, let it flow...unanimous...and they said if they missed something tee up Stimulus Plan IV...

there lurks numerous opportunities for peeps, small businesses, and especially big business to gain a windfall on our collective dimes...so blind and distract the average American by bribing him with a $1.2 K, and grants and interest free loans for the little guys, while the big boys get a bite for $millions...

we're gonna be paying for this for years...and have just jeopardized our safety net...Social Security and Medicare...

Have any of us actually seen what's in it?

And more importantly... how does one differentiate "pork" from "not pork" in a bill that's specifically designed to give people/businesses money?

Are we just defining pork as stuff for people/businesses we don't like? That seems arbitrary.

don't need don't want here as well...but no one will ever attempt to even off the deficit or cut into the debt.

so we voters basically alternate between what type of welfare we want to go deeper...for citizens or for corporations.
Oversimplification, yes. But not too far off base.

Anyhoo, unless I don't understand, I'm thinking I'm not getting a check anyway. We aren't earning our income via current employment so nothing has changed much for us financially.

was thinking of just not cashing if it came but one of our kids just bought a house, they are one mtg payment into it, and now both jobs are at risk, so we thought we'd give our money to them.

anxious times on several fronts

I don't know how it is worded but the news feeds just say $1200 to everybody (assume adult) under a cap of $99K and children at $500 and everybody else under a higher cap will get less. I assume they will use employment rolls?

The way I read what I hear I will also not get anything since I'm already on welfare sucking the SS.

And yes, I define pork to mean anything I don't think should be included because I'm paying for it.

the info I saw says the stimulus payments are only based on income levels, and do not exempt social security recipients...

adjusted gross income limits are $75,000/individual or $150,000/joint annual adjusted gross income from last year taxes filed (2018 or 2019)...

stipend is decreased for income higher than $75, 000, up to $99,000 at which point the stipend drops to zero, and from $150,000 up to $199,000 for couples, when the stipend is zero...

income is adjusted gross income reported in your last filing, from any source, including social security, employment, cap gains, pensions, etc

I see both sides of that too Frank. If you're a busboy at a Trump property (for example) and it goes under tough shiite.. That's collateral damage I guess. The idea of saving businesses is to save jobs. But in an attempt to keep things looking appropriate they may have screwed the pooch in some places Just MHO.

warning:
I am about to attempt partisan humor-

well, if you're a busboy at a Trump property, you're probably an illegal alien and not eligible for the $1,200 either.

also, if you're an employee or in a contract with a Trump business of any kind, you're already accustomed to not getting paid as agreed anyway.

weak, I know...

Krazee, I haven't read or heard enough to know, but aren't the restrictions singling out business loans to related owners' companies? Couldn't lower level employees still get the same compensation as other Americans?

Dont worry. Trump already indicated he’d ignore all oversight that was agreed to in a bipartisan way. He probably had already discussed this with Mitch prior to passage.
