MACS, the situation you are in is possibly even worse than you are envisioning. I hope and pray your prison staff will eventually be virus free. But logically I see that as unlikely. You will constantly be exposed to the virus from the prisoners. Anywhere there is a contained population once disease enters it runs rampant. Many prisoners have compromised immune systems due to age, and underlying conditions, but add in compromised immune systems due to long term drug usage..

Here is what still don't get about all of this madness around testing.

-You get tested at 945.
-At 10 you test negative.
-1030 you get to work and could be exposed to it within 5 minutes.

Should you then get tested tomorrow? And the next day? And the next?

Why not test every American every 5 minutes?

SAAAAAAAAAAFFFFFFEEE!

Because, the simplistic answer is...........if MACS is positive.......he goes home for 2 weeks and self isolates.
What you are saying makes sense............a little...........but we need to screen certain people for sure, LEOs and the like, health care workers, etc.
And yeah, might have to test them monthly or something.

Not more often?

What about some grocery bagging kid?
If exposed 5 minutes into their shift, every thing they touch today, tomorrow, and every day until they are tested again or show symptoms promotes the virus. Same with any cashier @ any store, anywhere.

The testing concept makes people feel better about things in the moment. They don't think about the reality of the moments to follow.

5 minutes?? Try 2-5 days.

We don't have those fancy "Abbott" 5-15 minute tests around here... although interestingly enough... we do have an Abbott Labs in Temecula.

That's GREAT NEWS! You can't be officially sick for at least 48 more hours!

You are practically cured!

You could get the Bangers together for a hand washing exercise.

Blacks, Arians, Southern & Northern Latino sects all in the same room together singing Happy Birthday twice through the sudsing up.

It would be like an adult After School Special.

I'm kinda with 8 on this.

The reality of testing is that it's only for that moment. It doesn't mean you'll be safe at any time after, hell doesn't mean you haven't been infected between testing and getting the results.

The thing it does do is allows our society to take a person who tests positive out of circulation for at least a few of the days they were infectious.

If.... When.... MACS gets covid-19, if he doesn't get tested and doesn't ever show symptoms, he'll spend 10 days (give or take) giving it to everyone he works with, and possibly some people he interacts with at gas stations or grocery stores. If we test him halfway through that, there are fewer other people who will get exposed.

The testing isn't to protect his immediate family... They're a write off at that point, it's to keep it from spreading out from him to other parts of the community.

But yeah, to do this successfully, we need lots of testing... And actual isolation. If we were smart, the instant someone at the jail popped positive, we would isolate everyone who works there, not let them keep working... They're exposed. Take them out of isolation in 2 weeks. Torch the jail... It's infected.

Right.......so if we could just get a cheap, reliable fast test, you test every 48 hours.....and nurses, doctors, fireman, food store workers, etc
That’s testing that could really help.

And that's with limited testing.

So I've been thinking about this some more. Here in CA, only people who are showing any symptoms are getting tested. I assume since we're short on tests, this is true in all the hot spots??

Isn't that like testing for alcoholism at a bar? (credit to Bucky)

I'm sure the fatality rate has to be a whole lot lower than 3%.

Likely. But a lot of folks killed by the virus also were not tested.

Yes, apparently the hydroxychloroquine makes it much easier for zinc to get inside your cells, where the zinc greatly interferes with viral replication. So, both taken together are real dynamite. Dr. Vladimir Zelenko from NY state noted the same thing, seeing amazing results using both plus azithromycin in 699 patients, nearly all of whom had great recoveries, and most of whom had symptoms very greatly reduced within just 4-6 hours after first dose.

The azithromycin also greatly enhances effects. Experts are unsure if it's just prevention/attacking secondary bacterial infections or something more, but it seems to be something more, given azithromycin's long-observed history of apparent antiviral effects in-vivo, and clear evidence against virii in-vitro.

To sum up though, the three together (hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin and zinc usually in the form of zinc sulfate) are quite the effective combination.

Dr. Stephen Smith, Dr. Ramin Oskoui, the aforementioned Dr. Vladimir Zelenko all have large and ever-growing databases of patients in which this triple-combo worked great.

Lots of anecdotals too, including the MI state rep Democrat who, like many others have said, saw huge relief from symptoms in just hours after starting the treatment. I've seen lots of others that say "overnight" or "within hours" of the first dose, they felt amazingly better.

Also, Dr. Marc Siegel (associate professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center) announced last night that he witnessed a 96-year-old man who was on death's doorstep suddenly have an amazing recovery just hours after taking the combo.... and he should know, because the man is his father!

The French doctor who did the original small study on hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, then did the 80-patient one with similar amazing results, has just completed a 1000-patient study. Again like the others it's uncontrolled (as he considers it unethical to deny half the participants life-saving treatments), but he's reporting that of the 1000, only 7 required ICU of which only 2 died, presumably meaning the other 993 survived and recovered. Publication is pending.

Stay tuned!

Cali has 442 deaths as of today... and 16,957 positive cases. That's a 0.2% fatality rate. Not even 1%.

And again... only people getting tested are those who show signs. So it is likely much lower.

One of our beloved nurses is in ICU, though... If you're a praying man, Nurse Maria could use the prayers.

Then the worldwide death rate as of today is 5.8%.
U.S. death rate is 3.4%.

and this is a completely different explanation for why these drugs might work than Gene's article gave.

This is why people are skeptical. You don't get the benefit of the doubt when you cannot identify how something is working.

More anecdotes doesn't data make.

It’s great that for a “lot” of people, these existing therapies are apparently working.
In instances where the situation is dire? Yeah, why not, if the option is there.
But we won’t know if it’s truly an efficacious and “safe” therapy for most until traditional clinical trials are performed.

I was talking with Doctor B Hole Feelengraüb recently and I mentioned to him that over the weekend I had spit into a strippers mouth and that - almost miraculously - that stripper had remained coronas free...

And I asked him, I said "Dr B, you think there might be some kinda magical properties to my saliva? Some kinda life saving, coronas defeating abilities inside of my spit?"

And Doctor B looked me deep in the eyes and grabbed onto both my hands as he wiped the coke from his fumanchu with his shoulder... and I'll never forget what he said to me, he says "we're gonna be ******** millionaires!"

So, we've started a joint venture... Opie N' Feelangraüb's Cure All Tonic... $50 a month will get you a 2 oz spray vial of tonic and a face towel for clean up delivered straight to your doorstep on a tri-monthly basis...

Yes, it's just bottles of (mostly) my spit, but I can tell you firsthand Cinnamon has never looked this Good.... Ever...

And while this tonic is currently being marketed as a Corona Virus preventer and eliminator, the good doctor has a high level of confidence that this stuff'll protect against a whole host of bad ****!
Heck, even cinnamon's Adams Apple looks like it might be shrinking down a little bit...

It's a miracle cure all folks! Order now to begin your tri-monthly deliveries immediately, or come on down to City Lights and get ya some straight from the source!

The main hydroxychloroquine methods of action I didn't mention. I only mentioned that it ALSO helps zinc get inside the cells. It wasn't a complete description of all it does!

The complete description is more complex, and only partially understood at present.

The full explanation is unknown. But we don't NEED ONE if it works! Do you have any idea how many drugs are sold with the disclaimer "the mechanism of action is unknown"? Tons of them, for decades now. Yup they had controlled study results, but we're about to have some too, thanks to the 1500-patients controlled and randomized study in NY, the results of which will be released eventually.

That's the point. Controlled study.

As I said, without knowing the mechanisms of action (and "partially understood" is REALLY generous of you), then I (just me, not you, not anyone else) cannot give it the benefit of the doubt. All those drugs sold without the mechanism of action being known are tested in clinical trials. I don't see why you're not just willing to wait until clinical trials are done before deciding this is a great drug or not.
