Brazil has exploded, and the pictures of beaches here tell the story. A second wave is coming. Morons are actually bitching at people who are wearing masks. People are stopping social distancing and wearing masks. Stay smart and stay healthy. This enemy is invisible, yet very real.

Many states started opening 3-4 weeks ago and the promised new death toll has not materialized. Now it’s Memorial Day weekend and we have another prediction of a bunch of dead people in three weeks.

38.6 million lost their jobs instead of just hiding our baby boomers and elderly. Now there no tax revenue, no social security receipts, and Medicare receipts to pay for the baby boomers and old people.

Don't be stupid, Covid 19 infections are rising in 10 states. They are staying constant in 22 states, and they are falling in 18 states. So your BS about no upward mobility in deaths is purely ignorant. There is a lag time between infection and death, or do you think it is instantaneous jackazz. I was pointing out stupid. Well, here's your sign. The economy needs to reopen. This is an absolute. But in this case stupid kills. Quit acting like there is only one side to this problem, your comments point out that you are a moron. 3 weeks or so the number of infections will explode. By the way are you really so dumb as to believe the numbers coming out of Georgia and Florida? You can throw Texas in there too. I When you come back and explain how to stop the absolute stupid we are witnessing from infecting others then lets talk economy. Otherwise STFU you pompas azz.

reuters says 20...

I've decided to take a very neutral position on this...

I don't want people to be compelled by their employer to risk their health or the health of their loved ones...

and I don't want people to be compelled by the government to stay home or wear masks or anything else...

if the karens of the world want to apply social pressure to those who choose to or not to follow social distancing guidelines, go for it... 'murica...

Testing has been steadily increased as kits become available.

It's strange how the number of cases has increased in tandem.

Good thing we had those extras test kits.

.... We simply have not increased testing enough. While I understand your level of understanding is at about Twitler levels there ("if we didn't test, we wouldn't have any cases!") your statement is irrelevant.

Tests don't create cases. The cases are there. We're seeing them. But are we seeing all of them?

Look at the actual numbers, we're still seeing a 16% positive result on our tests. Now that's better than Apr 1, where we were seeing a 32% positive results on our tests... (April 1, we still were so far behind in testing, 2 months after our country's first infection, that we were still getting back 32% of all tests as positive).

We are not doing well. We're doing a litle better. But not well.

According to the front page on CNN for week over week new cases it is 18 rising, steady 22, falling 10 and we have lots of pictures of people not social distancing. Did anyone not expect that would be the lead article today?...and yet the curve is still flattened.

I know cases will explode in three weeks. That’s been drilled into everyone’s head. You’ve had 3-4 weeks of states opening yet your doom prediction hasn’t come true. I’m sorry if the numbers aren’t agreeing with you and all you’ve got is to go with is claiming the numbers from Florida, Georgia, and Texas are all wrong. So much for being data-driven when it doesn’t match your opinion! So at some point maybe you have to rethink your opinion.....naaa just call people morons and jackazzs! I accept your apology.

Now we got Memorial Day.... look at all those people misbehaving. In three weeks the number of infections will explode. I know, I know. I’ve heard that before. OK, the stopwatch is started. Lake of the Ozarks-all dead.

Here’s the beautiful thing...just stay home. Nobody is dragging you out in public. Nobody’s even asking you to participate in fixing the economy. You are free to hide as long as you want. Just stay home and let us pompous azzes take care of everything.

More people are being tested.

Good choice of terms Opel. Karen, you miss the gist of this post when you go into Trump Dipchit Syndrom. So Ill talk in little terms for you. It is a must that the economy reopen immediatly. We have only 3 defenses against this disease right now. Social distancing, wearing masks, and our own immune systems. The primary factor in severe cases and deaths is compromised immune systems and poor health. Age does play a role but that can be minimized by a weight loss, Proactivly controlling your health issues as well as possible, and staying active even if you catch this chit. Basically healthy seniors won't die from this.

As to your statements scoffing at second wave are dipchit stupid. The curve has already been shown to be non linear. Given that, we must accept a second wave to save the economy. But we don't have to accept stupid. COVID19 is winning because of stupid. When I see thousands of people side to side with no masks on that is idiot stupid. It is actually hurting reopening. People need confidence that COVID19 can be moderated for a reopening to work long term.

I was not talking about the economy, I was talking about stupid. But your Trump Dipchit Syndrome took over.

If you really want to save the economy which I am sure you do, start thinking about stopping stupid and instilling confidence. What you are talking about will not bring big time money back into the economy except to take advantage of the stupid.

Z, understand, I am not talking about the obvious constitutional infringements. They make me cringe.

When you say winning, what do you mean by that?

And when people talk about this curve thing... is there some natural phenomena, some law of nature or physics defines how the curve is supposed to look? Is it supposed to be linear, logarithmic, exponential, quadratic...

When you say that we must accept a second wave... where is this law of nature written that makes you so sure that one is coming?

Looking at this data, things are on a general decline with saw tooth peaks and valleys with a period of about one week. Is this a natural cycle of some sort or a function of the data reporting cycle.

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/new-cases

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Based on these graphs, I expect a local mini peak in cases sometime around this coming weekend.

All I know is that I am being super careful when I must leave the house, which is minimally. We will know in two or three weeks if we opened too soon. Either way, Trump looks like the idiot he is by ignoring the warnings of the experts.

Fox News is saying that Florida, Georgia and Texas all opened up a few weeks ago, and did not experience any serious outbreaks...the data shows that all three had small increases, but not over-whelming numbers of seriously ill that did not severely impact their medical care capacity...isn't that the objective? sure there'll be some deaths, but let's do what we can to keep them to a minimum...

the re-openings were measured and included limited approved businesses, and public health safety guidelines, such as social distancing and the use of masks for employees who deal with customers...some high risk businesses, like gyms were not included...sensible re-opening...although there were some scenes of flouting the guidelines, including at a few bars, beaches and restaurants, it seems the majority of folks were responsible...

that is the template for managing the pandemic...cautious and careful business operations observing safety guidelines for keeping employees and customers safe...if a business or agency is unable to operate safely, then it should not open...

it'd be nice if we could do this even safer, by widespread nationwide testing and isolating those who are positive and contact tracing their associates and testing them...but we don't seem to have the will at the top to make this happen...
