I recently won a bid for:

La Gloria Cubana Serie R No. 5 (Robusto) (5.5"x54) Pack of . Winning bid of $16.00.

My card has been charged and they were supposed to ship yesterday. Although I've had an account here for years and have bought cigars from them numerous times, today I received an e-mail stating that I had to provide them verification that I'm at least 21 yrs old.

Dear XXXXXX,

In order to comply with various laws and regulations, we require customers to be at least 21 years of age. Because we have yet to verify your age, we need to verify that you are at least 21 years old in order to complete your purchase. You only need to be verified once, so we'll never ask you for this information again.

We will do everything we can to make verification as easy as possible and are committed to providing you with the highest level of service, while maintaining the privacy and security of your personal information.

Once we obtain age verification we will be able to complete the order processing and ship your order. In most cases the fix is an easy one. Please confirm the following information:

How does your name appear on your driver's license, passport or state issued ID?
Have you recently had a name change (marriage, divorce etc.)?
How does your address appear on your driver's license, passport or state issued ID? Have there been any changes in the past 5 years?

If any of the above information is different from the information provided with your purchase, simply email the new information to [email protected]. Once we've verified your age we'll process and ship your product.

If through these methods we're unable to verify your age, we'll need to obtain a copy of a government issued ID that confirms your name and date of birth. A copy of your ID can be e-mailed to [email protected] or faxed to 610-849-2103.

If we do not hear back from you within 5 business days, your bid will be invalidated and the purchase canceled.

Thank you for your time.

Respectfully,
Age Verification Specialists
CigarBid

I understand that CelticBomber has been handling issues with orders and I'm going to reach out to him via PM.

I'm hesitant to supply a copy of my government issued ID for security and ID theft reasons. I lopped off my leg and took a picture of the stump so he could count the rings to verify my age. I don't see how to include this picture as an attachment to the PM. Can anyone help me? I'm getting kinda dizzy and I need to get this resolved before I bleed out.

Thanks in advance.

Dear BuckyB,

With all the complaints circulating lately, you chose to place an order. Sympathy can be found in Merriam-Webster's dictionary somewhere between shit, and syphilis... Mellow

Yeah I know. Was reading some posts of some smokes that I haven't had in a long time. Summer's here so there's more opportunity to sit outside and enjoy a cigar. The LGC's used to be pretty solid performers. Consistent in construction, burn, flavor. Nothing earth shattering but I like them. Don't know if they still are since I haven't had one in a while so I thought I'd give it a try.

I haven't bought cigars from here in a year? Two years? Decided to give it a $16 gamble. Did my standard bid on something that I wanted: max bid of 67% CI price and it won. If they send them, fine. If they don't and credit my card, fine. If they don't and stiff me on the charges, then tell my CC to dispute it and I'll send nasty PM's to Celtic about his poor customer service.

That's assuming this tourniquet does the trick. If not, I'll die and none of it will matter anyway. I'll just haunt CB from the grave instead.

Theo, I'm no scientist, not even a Scientologist, but I think I read that a leg only has half of the age rings.
Maybe you are confident that the Age Verification Specialists can do the math, but you might want to consider lopping off the other leg and take a picture with both stumps showing.

All I need is about 40% of the rings to be visible and I'll meet the minimum age requirements.

Superglue and a triple flame torch lighter to cauterize some of the smaller vessels seems to be holding up for now.

Some of the rings appear to be distorted, looks like to be circa the foggy college years. Either that or I need new glasses.

Can you just send them a copy of your AARP card? That way no personal info is revealed, but they will get the general info they need.

Bucky, if you do ever get the LGC Series Rs, do me a favor and tell me if the cap (before you snip it) tastes artificially sweetened? I won a 10 pack auction a few months back and every one tastes like it was dipped in Splenda on the cap. I have to circumcise them aggressively to keep the taste out of my mouth (Yeah, I said it) when I smoke them.

Dear God. One of the best ways to ruin any cigar is to add artificial crap to it. I used to like the old (waaay back) La Perla Habana Black Pearl maddies as another steady inexpensive regular solid cigar. The blend started going south but still acceptable. Then I got a batch with dyed wrappers.

That ended any further purchases of these cigar.

YMMV but I am curious (if you do receive them) if you have the same experience I did.

Your other thread on the La Perla makes me now wonder about the LGC Series N... I used to love that smoke.

^ Thanks for the link. I had no idea about 'dyeing'. I wondered with a cigar I smoked, but never put 2 and 2 together. Noobs gotta get learned somehow.😁

On the dyed ones pictured in the link, you could rub them with a paper towel and mild pressure and it'd leave a scuff mark of the dye on the paper. Other's even complained of them leaving a coloring on their lips when they smoked them.

Not a natural dark looking maduro or even oscuro. Coal black as engletl mentioned is a good description

I never smoked the dyed ones I had. Just by looking at them you could tell they weren't right. I set them aside and a few weeks later I saw folks posting about the ones they were getting from CBid. Sven (the CS dude and forum moderator at the time) confirmed they were sucky and offered to make it right if people sent them back. Said he talked with the company and they gave him some song and dance but didn't admit nor deny anything.

I didn't want to hassle with it, just chucked the fake ones and never bought them again. They might be just fine now but as I said, the blend was drifting away from what it once was and this sealed the deal for me.

Re: auction win for the 5er of LGC's in my first post - I replied to the e-mail. Don't hold much hope for a resolution based on recent posts but we'll see. Won't bother me much either way, just testing the waters for myself the status of ordering things here.

If the CS is fine, and the smokes are as I remember - cool.
If the CS is fine and the smokes suck - bad.
If the CS sucks and I get the smokes and they suck - badder
If the CS sucks and I don't get the smokes then I won't know about the smokes but I'll know about the CS... so I'm not sure where on the cool ---> badder spectrum to put it. Is it somewhere between bad and badder or is it after badder. Hey badder, badder, badder..... swing... badder, badder...

Yeah the Onyx does (did?) have a pretty dark wrapper. Another cigar that I used to snag on here. Don't remember any color rubbing off. At least not passively from smoking it. Haven't had one in years though Looks like they still sell them: there's a box of Mini Belicoso up for bid sitting at $42.50 with 20 hrs left.

This discussion kinda sparked my curiosity today and did some googling (careful not to google some diddling)

Maybe dying is not exactly a fair acusation. From what I read there has been some manufacturers rush the aging process by steaming the wrapper leaf under pressure which can lead to some deeper coloring. Another method is to soak the leaves in a tobacco tea to hide any mottled look of some batches. Both can give the wrapper a deeper color which can be kinda sticky and the tint may rub off a bit.

So maybe an outright chemical dying is not accurate but rather a couple alternative processes to short cut the long natural maduro aging process (steaming under pressure) or a coloring tea to make a mottled batch more eye appealing. They say it doesn't alter the taste. {shug} I might have smoked some and not known it. The Black Pearls I had were just too obvious of something fishy going on.

Age verification completed this morning. Order confirmation and tracking number e-mail received this afternoon.

Thanks CelticBomber!!!

Leg all gross and gangrene-y, don't think it's salvageable. Guess I'm now "that guy" ---> About as useful as a one legged man in an arse kicking contest.
