Cigar Smoking ---> Appetite Stimulant?

Since I've been smoking cigars regularly, I've noticed a definite correlation/causation with the need to eat immediately afterward...almost like a "munchies" attack!!

Fortunately, healthy selection of the "snack" food has prevented me from gaining too much weight, but it is a challenge!!

Anybody else experience this?

Yep...the "Appetite Stimulant effect" of tobacco is just like the other "leaf" you are referring to (so I've been told).

I have never had that. Of course anything of a larger size that I smoke is usually after a good evening meal. Last time I was training I had a cigar for the long drive to and from the training ceneter and never ate after and was not specially hungry. I think that is not just cnadela you have it is a whole different type of "green"

Double D--I just lost fifty five pounds in the last six months and smoked lots of cigars (no more or less than before that). When I was in college I smoked lots of that other weed and had lots of cases of munchies. So--I don't buy your hypothesis.

My diet secret--fanatically count calories and when people offer you fattening food start screaming at them to keep them away. :-)

Nicotine is a stimulant. Often times, as with any stimulant, there is an increase in parastolsis, which is the smooth muscle contraction that moves food through your digestive system. So it may be normal and is for you appearantly. Some people smoke and then have to poop, and that is why..........Jamie

Any appetite surpressing effect that tobacco has is to create a oral fixation that interferes with "grazing" or passive eating (munching). If you're smoking a cigar, you're less likely to put food in your mouth.

Outside of that, tobacco is beleived to be a mild appetite stimulant (that I read a long time ago).

Here's a page listing numerous cites that nicotine is an appetite suppressant: http://tinyurl.com/yn6tj6

Cigarettes, which deliver more nicotine faster than cigars sure were. When I used to get hungry, and didn't have time to eat, I'd smoke a cigarette.

Still, even though I only smoke cigars now, when it's lunch time often I think 'I'll just have my daily cigar first,' and often end up not eating, despite having the time.

I bet if the original poster didn't use any tobacco products at all they'd still have a keen interest in food.

^ Like I said, it's an appetite SURPRESSANT.

Seriously, I always heard that the reason why cigarettes and cigars kept people slim was because of the oral fixation.

Go figure.

I hope the cigars do not cause increased appetite. I am trying to use them as a diet aid. If it is successful I am going to market them as MaduroMax 5000.

You need to take those hand rolled, Jamaican "flavored" gonzos you picked up out of the humi. Might want to check the ingredients on those brownies you been snacking on too.

Absurd ... people GAIN weight and eat more when they stop smoking beause nicotine tends to be an appetite suppressant.

Never heard such a thing ... and keep in mind, smoking over time aslo DULLS the sense of smell and taste (to some extent) making food loose some of it's flavor.

It juzt doesn't make sense ...

#16 LMAO,

Here's what you do,Go buy your self one of them midget size baseball bats.
Then smoke your cigar thus you'll get the munchies right!!
Take the Midget size baseball bat and whack your self upside your nooggin, then slam the bat down on your hand when your head starts to feel better, thus reaching for any food you'll think twice or see doubles when trying(wink)
Now when the your head and hand starts to feel better and you get the same craving have your girlfriend or wife do the same to ya.Soon you'll get the message and not eat afterwards. You'll learn to eat before you smoke like the rest of us do!!

Cause we gotta hear about it.

Seems to be contrary to what I have noticed about smokers. Someone I know gave up smoking and gained enough weight to make another person in less than a year.
