Just curious what everyone's favorite coffee pairing is. For me, I like Cyclops from janus coffee roasters (the guys that partner with DE for the BarnSmoker events). Bold enough to cut through a full bodied stick, but won't overpower a connie.

100% Kona would be my preference but I get so cranked up I don’t drink too much of it.

Depends on the time of day, morning a vanilla quad mocha is my go to, or a breve.

Afternoon or evening? Black. From where? Dude I change that up constantly I don’t drink one type/area of beans.

prefer dark roast...no particular brand or country/region/farm/brand...I usually get something different when I finish the pound or two or three...sometimes if I get a two or three pounder, I'll mix some of those beans with some from the replacement bag...just as a change up blend...

always black...never after lunch, or any caffeinated beverage for that matter.... I won't be able to sleep that night...

if I am in the mood for a smoke with the morning coffee, I usually have something small and mild, corona or petit corona; most CC, Fuente Hemi nat (SS or Best Seller or Signature), Tat Cabaiguan, Perdomo conn. and the like

Use egg shells to cut the bite, no more than two eggs worth, per pot, really smooths out the flavor. Granny taught me this trick.

I roast my own coffee... You know that extra burner on your outdoor grille that nobody ever uses? ...
Well, I use it. I roast green 100% Arabica coffee beans from Sulawesi Indonesia with flavor profile of chocolate, spice tones and berry.
"This coffee originates from the excellent growing conditions Sulawesi Toraja and is grown in one of the most remote growing regions in the world. Sulawesi coffee is comparable to Sumatra in taste, but it produces a more consistent cup. Considered by some experts to be the premium offering from Indonesia. Grown on the White Eagle Farm, this coffee is fair-trade certified grade 1 Arabica"
Recommended roast level : Dark

I never pair cijars with coffee. maybe cuz I never smoke in the morning?

smoothie- years ago I worked with an Irish guy who said to put crushed egg shells in with the grounds (calcium calming the acidity).
Never tried it cuz who listens to people that think boiling steaks is good eatin'?

$4 bux for a 10 oz bag isn't exactly cheap, nearly 8 bux a pound for pre-ground oxidized, stale before you open the package, coffee. All coffee is stale before you open it unless you buy fresh roasted coffee beans and grind it yourself every time you drink it. Coffee oxidizes like a cut apple or banana or potato as soon as it's ground, by the time you get it, any nutrients in it has dissipated.
A 5lb bag of Green coffee in bulk costs me 6 bux/lb, roasting doubles the size of the beans and grinding gives at least double or triple the surface area, so for six bux/lb, I get an ass load of coffee, and it's fresh. It takes me 20 minutes to roast approx one to two weeks worth of coffee, which gives me an excuse to hang out in the garage and smoke a stogie.

Been drinking Costa Rican whole bean stuff from Cost Plus World Market for years. I have a drip machine that grinds just before brewing, so I buy the 24 oz whole bean bags 3 at a time and they last for a while.

The flip house was owned by a coffee hoarder.
She also had an OCD for percolator collections.
The house was finally cleared out today by the pickers but surprisingly no one took the cans o' coffee.
The basement is chock-full-o- cans o' Chock-full-o-, Folgers, Maxwell House & various other roasts.
Prolly gonna get sold with the house now,
As I'm on a strict diet of EZ & Black Rifle
Ashamed to admit Starbucks slips in there occasionally due to my daughters hostile brew takeover. Other than that she's a good kid.

My go to coffee also although I rarely have coffee with a cigar. Strong black coffee to start the day around 0430 and usually just water with the morning cigar after the workout. Beer/cigar later in the day.

I second the idea of roasting your own. Green coffee beans are inexpensive, but they're also GOOD. I do mostly decaf. I use a cast iron skillet. Hold one side up and scoop the beans from the bottom, let them slide back down, constantly flipping them to get an even roast. Let them sit for 12 hours so that the gases can dissipate. Drink within a couple days.

If you haven't tried it you should. It will change your life.

As far as the type, I like stronger stuff, but my fav is Kenya AA. It has a light body and full flavor, almost citrusy.

Where do you get your coffee? I was buying on line from Smokin Beans, but they messed up my last order and aren't answering their phone. After half dozen calls in a week, I give up...

I’m back and forth. Anyone have a recommendation on a decent grinder? My last one gave up. It’s sitting outside on my porch. Also. I’m guessing I’m gonna have to try roasting some now

Motor slowed down and the whole unit started smoking. It was a burr grinder. I grabbed my moms last time I visited. Till I can find a new one It’s the bladed type.

Jake,

I have been a fan of Cuisinart's Grind-and-Brew for years. Has a built in burr grinder and it grinds as you need, so you don't really have to plan ahead. Just fill the hopper with beans and add water.

I have the older version of this one:

Used to have the one that Stogie was talking about...3 of them. Kept buying them when one would die. Now, I just do Keurig with Death Wish Coffee or Cafe Bustela.

No mess, no fuss.

I can't do the Keurig thing. It's like coffee with no soul to me.

I have a Nespresso espresso machine with the little pods in the office and that's OK, but the Keurig never tastes like real coffee to me.

That's why I drink strong quality coffee. I got tired of the waste. The Cuisineart always seemed to overheat the pot and anything past the 1st cup tasted like burned Starbucks.
