1. Why the reference to "an old Jewish lady." It is not related to the conversation and is offensive.
2. You, in particular, should pay some attention about much of what Frank's has to stay. His posts are often steeped in life experience, wisdom and age and/or just plain damn funny.

Yer offended by everything, you're even a Germanophobe. All that pompous progressive feigned indignation is dumb.

I must have missed the wisdom, experience, and wit of the old Sage of Massachusetts. Let me know when it starts next. OK?

from a different thread...

ray, even ardent supporters of virtually any politician (except Trumpers) know what happens as the bastids settle in, but as rfenster keeps trying to explain to you, 98.2% of the people are dedicated to making things work for themselves and loved ones once they realize what the rules are, fair or not...like paper money, for example.

Great, you win, we know it has no intrinsic value. But it's still taken in trade for goods and services everywhere (that matters) in the entire world. Even you have to trade your gold bullions in for paper if you want to buy a cigar at the shpo.

Though consider the concept of "value" in a capitalist (or even socialist) civilization for a moment. What is a piece of art worth? A talented Quarterback? A bowl of soup? Most of us would answer "whatever the market is willing to pay". Well, we are part of "the market" and it appears that the vast majority of the world's population is willing to accept a representative "value" of certain paper that is well above the value of the tree pulp material from which it is made. No one feels paper itself has innate qualities and properties of significance, but it's globally accepted as representing purchasing power.

Yup, crazy for sure. Hocus pocus too. Bet that you don't tear it up and throw it away though.

So we'll keep trying to amass more of it and use it until such time as you are inspired to leave the discount cigar forum you use a pulpit and lead the world to share your valid conclusions about reintroducing precious metals as currency.

This may require you put on pants and leave the basement...but we will support your efforts. (try to laugh, it won't hurt)

I don't get offended very much by anything in life, and certainly not on here. And, I am not a Gernmanaphobe either. You simply shouldn't make such unfounded accusations about other people.

I told you before that you can make up names and call me pretty much anything you want, but there is a limit like I explained.

Frankly, I still have some serious suspicion about your remarks about others very different than you, your Nazi comment(s), your Jew comment, and whether you can even play nice with other people who don't see the world the same way you do.

RayRay has offended your ancestors yet again. The last redress for a gentleman such as yourself is to challenge him to a duel. You all should meet in Virginia, as it is the halfway point between the two parties. Livestream it to the Cbid audience. Hockeydad can figure out a way to sell tickets and popcorn.

If, and I mean if, RayRay should come out victorious over "The Fenster" then I propose that we switch to muskets and that he meet "The Tri-Pod" on the North Bridge at Concord, Taxachusetts.

Why? Help me understand.

Ray is right on principle, Frank is right when it comes to REALITY. Simple as that.

I'm an advocate of precious metals. I always say "keep stacking", but when I go to buy gasoline or food I use fiat. We all do.

What I don't understand is the constant bi*ching and moaning about RayRay. If you, or anybody else, said the exact same thing nobody would think twice about it. What happened to "bring a thick skin" or "bring a raincoat"?

RayRay trolls back in the slightest and you boomers sh*t your pants. Do yourself a favor and block me too.

Ya, money is still good here.

Woke up with a rumbly tummy in the middle of the night though. Fried wings with a special command to "make it as hot as you can" buffalo wings, fried pickles, and JoJos. It was gooood...

Definitely going to try to make it a weekly thing as long as my stomach lining will last or until the paper money runs out. If the latter happens, I still have plastic.

I'll pop a couple of Tums to neutralize things, then back to bed.

Frank, your sageness is overrated.

I don't need a grammar school level understanding of what money is.

The questions are, do you believe money belongs to us (the people) or the government and their central bank cartel?
A commie once told me that money belongs to the government and the central bank...yes he was a good little Marxist who read his Communist Manifesto.

Do you believe we should have a sound monetary system, one that honestly serves commerce, protects purchasing power, and hinders government corruption and enormous debt? Or no, we should bury our heads in the sand with the "vast majority of the world's population" and take whatever punishment the current system hands out until its inevitable collapse with a GREAT GREAT DEPRESSION? Then the vast majority will then wake from their slumber and ask "I don't git it, how could this have happened to us, who i responsible for this? And the majority of statist experts and politicians will say "no one could have possibly predicted this" That's what they always say whenever a bubble bursts. Of course, they ignored every warning by those that rightly predicted it.

Do you even have any idea how the U.S. and the world have got to this point? OK, I know you don't.
Murray Rothbard wrote a little book in 1963 titled "What Has Government Done to Our Money?" It had to be updated in the following decades to reflect the changes that led to the current totally fiat system. In it, he explains the phases that European and American monetary policy went though since WWI that led to the decline of commodity-based money to the totally fiat funny money system we now have.

Rothbard's prognosis is as perceptive today as it was then. I know there are some people here who don't want to hear it. ๐Ÿ™ˆ ๐Ÿ™‰ ๐Ÿ™Š

Quote:
As we face the future, the prognosis for the dollar and for the international monetary system is grim indeed. Until and unless we return to the classical gold standard at a realistic gold price, the international money system is fated to shift back and forth between fixed and fluctuating exchange rates, with each system posing unsolved problems, working badly, and finally disintegrating. And fueling this disintegration will be the continued inflation of the supply of dollars and hence of American prices, which show no sign of abating. The prospect for the future is accelerating and eventually runaway inflation at home, accompanied by monetary breakdown and economic warfare abroad. This prognosis can only be changed by a drastic alteration of the American and world monetary system: by the return to a free-market commodity money such as gold, and by removing government totally from the monetary scene.

rayr, rayr, rayr...(sigh)

BHives is correct, you may be right in principle, at least partially, but at least he's aware that the rest of us live in reality. I was just trying to help you and assumed by all you continue to repeat ad nauseum that you did need to understand the basics that propel life on Planet Earth.

So, whatcha planning on doing about it? Let's say I'm convinced, I'm all in. What's the plan? Surely a man of your ideas has more than constant whining on Discount Cigar Forums in store for the world!
We in the field anxiously await word from Command Central in a basement somewhere outside of Buffalo. In the meantime, don't get all butthurt (!) if we continue to use paper money to buy all our stuff. Excited about the new world about to happen!!!

Ah, but seriously, you're becoming less and less interesting, and Rule One of participation on a Discount Cigar Board Forum is to be interesting.

You also display absolutely no sense of humor, repel attempts of other humans to form bonds, assign others to tidy groups to be disparaged if they do not kneel at your alter (though all end up in the Commie pool eventually anyway).

And you spelled "sagginess" incorrectly.

So for those reasons, you've been chopped

I still got some Tabasco peppers ready to pick. I think Iโ€™ll trade them for platinum ingots.

perhaps in my lifetime and serious discussion in the same paragraph? OY!

The "discussion" (better known on C-Bid as the non-stop ray-ray seminars) never changes for you. That's not a discussion, discussions evolve. Yours is an obsession.

You've been tracking the worst prognostications going back a couple of hundred years, and despite your dedication to doom and prayers for it's onset (it's more than a bit concerning how strongly you root for our demise) you are grasping at straws for a timeline prediction.

At least admit it in public...it would all be worth it to you to be able to say "I told you so"! Ego stroking while chaos reigns.
Nice.

Things good and things horrendous have happened to Americans related to our economy from the beginning. Often other countries rise and fall with us. Often on their own.

And we live through it. I've had relatives that lived through those times in this country and even worse things elsewhere.
Here's a tip...it won't end the human race. We (or our survivors...damn timeline problem) will work through it and start again in the unlikely event that the worst ever happens. Probably have more to worry about with WWIII than Loo Rockwell's distaste for paper money when ranking disasters.

Sadly, I guess what makes you controversial isn't your politics/economics so much as your pathetic bleating that you can have no joy nor humor, because you feel you are a slave and worse...being treated as if Nazis (!) are calling the shots in 21st century America.
Perhaps one day you'll get to know what that feels actually like. I truly hope not, but I'm sure you'd notice the considerable difference between what you imagine to be so real today and real reality.

It's far superior to being a Hamiltonian progressive who champions centralized government and black-robed despotism.

You spelled Jeffersonian wrong and libertarian is spelled with a lower case "l". With an upper case "L" it would signify a political party.

Housing prices in Orlando flatten FOR HOCKEYDAD
Experts warn that hot market not cooling yet

Orlando Sentinel

Home prices in metroOrlando were flat from July to August, sales fell for a second month and housing inventory rose slightly for the fourth straight month, according to the latest report from the Orlando Regional Realtor Association. But homebuyers hoping the red-hot sellerโ€™smarket is tipping in their favor still have a while to wait, experts warn.
โ€œI think weโ€™re near the peak of the cycle, I just donโ€™t think itโ€™s going to be in the next month or two,โ€ said Ken H. Johnson, a real estate economist with Florida Atlantic University.

Orlandoโ€™s median price for an existing home saleremained at $320,000 in August, the same number as reported for July, ORRA reported. Although that price reflects a 16% increase from the same time last year, itโ€™s the first time since January that the median price didnโ€™t rise month-to-month.

But Johnson noted that the average home price rose by more than 2% from July, which he says means the real price is still ticking up. โ€œYou multiply that by 12, youโ€™re looking at a 24% increase over the next year,โ€ he said.

The median is a different calculation thatโ€™s the midpoint between the lowest and highest price.

Housing inventory rose to nearly a monthโ€™s supply, according to the report, the fourth straight increase after hitting a record low in April. ORRAโ€™s report includes homes in Orange,

Osceola, Seminole and Lake counties.
Real estate agents such as Christopher Beverly of NobleGate Realty in Orlando say the market still feels tight.
โ€œNo matter what city you go to, itโ€™s hard to find what people are looking for,โ€ he said. โ€œIt causes some buyers to forego some wants and needs.โ€

Average 30-year mortgage rates were at 2.84% for the month, helping to keep the market going.

โ€œItโ€™s important to note that interest rates have remained low, which continues to drive demand, especially among first-time homebuyers,โ€ ORRA present Natalie Arrowsmith wrote in a statement. โ€œDespite our inventory increases, there are still not enough homes on the market to accommodate buyers.โ€

Johnson says people will likely start putting more houses on the market when they feel confident they can find another one quickly, but that wonโ€™t solve the root of the inventory crisis, which is a lag in new construction dating back to the Great Recession of 2008.

โ€œWe canโ€™t solve the long-term inventory shortage until builders get out there and start putting units in the ground,โ€ Johnson said.

Beverly says buyers looking for more reasonable prices need to look away from Orlando proper.

โ€œThatโ€™s where the demand is highest,โ€ he said. โ€œAs you go further out, it slows down, but itโ€™s still very high.โ€

Typically, autumn has slowed down the demand for houses as people are hesitant to move after their children start school. But Johnson says not to count on that this year to bring prices down.

โ€œA lot of that has gone away with the pandemic and these incredibly low interest rates,โ€ he said.

โ€œI think after we look back, weโ€™ll have a little bit of seasonality, but itโ€™s not going to have the impact that it used to.Florida is open for business, people want to relocate here, [and] in the wintertime, we become even more popular.โ€

It makes no sense that the Orlando market is tight with everyone being killed off by โ€˜Rona. Unless the New Yorkers are buying up Orlando as they flee southward.

The main problem with Orlando is with climate change in 4 years the average summer temperature will be 110 degrees. Basically it will be Scottsdale AZ.

I thought Florida was supposed to sink underwater like Atlantis because of global warming?
Watch out for those sinkhole prone areas too, they're a killer.
