And probably soon to be forgotten.

Hear people say You learn something every day. Unsure of the level of truth with that, but startingbthink about the range of experiences with this group and think there are certainly less useful threads posted here (a bunch of them mine).

So… if you learn something new, and you’d like to share with the group, please do.

I thought I knew a lot of reasons to hate mosquitoes, having lived on the gulf coast of Texas, but here is another one.

Throw WD-40 in the trash and get some Kroil. Best penetrating oil in the world. Makes WD or PB Blaster seem like you're using nothing at all. You're welcome.

It works but it's expensive, smells terrible and is near impossible to wash off your hands. I have good luck with Break Free CLP and of course, heat.

I agree with all these things but I've never regretted using it. BTW...I do not use the aerosol.

Today's lesson (actually past couple of of months).

Just want to close out this term on these stupid management classes. Two more weeks. I'll be happy with getting an A- on them. I hate taking stupid management classes, I don't want to be a manager and college management classes are not very applicable to the real world but they are part of the curriculum so suck it up buttercup.

Exactly. I have and use WD and PB but Kroil in a needle bottle works like magic when cleaning fishing reels or bringing an old record turntable back to life. Good for guns, too

100%

Whenever I had to do any work on my car or something, I'd go to a good friend of mine's house. He has a large garage behind his house with all the tools you can imagine and pretty well equipped machine shop. If I snapped off a bolt, he had the stuff to extract it. If needed, he could craft a tool that would fit the job.

The guy doesn't have a formal engineering degree but he's way more of a real engineer than 90% of those that I've worked with. Need something made or fixed? Burt can do it.

Even with a couple decades in the corporate world, some of the things seen and said by people in management are hard to believe.

Academia couldn’t possibly even hit the dart board of reality. Unless someone came in from that world and spoke the truth- which in turn would drive people away from Business degrees in droves.

Simply put, even Jesus had a boss. And when thinking of the Holy Trinity, was technically self employed. All of my Fridays have been better than his last Good one.

No Quarter.

In battles where the side about to be victorious says the enemy will Receive no Quarter, it means prisoners would not be housed. Essentially all survivors would be killed.

Santa Anna offered No Quarter to those in the Alamo.
No Quarter was also the way the tribes played the game, which Whitey didn’t understand.

No, no, no, they were all peaceful, spritual and kind before whitey showed up. Sarcasm

Santa Anna's order ensured the death of the Alamo defenders, but inspired the Texans at the Battle of San Jacinto where Sam Houston's revolutionary soldiers won and secured independence for Texas, their battle cry was "Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!"

For fishing reels I use Lucas extreme gun oil. I also use Lucas CLP.

Not the first time the cultures had no understanding of the other.
Whitey certainly doesn’t understand what a treaty means.

It's a federal case. No media. No journalists. It ain't on TV and most of those in media and politics likely want it exactly that way... nothing to see here... move along... none of us are pedo's... Epstein killed himself, we swear. LOOK AWAY!

I'll be content with an A- as well.

Too much prosperity right now as a contractor. So I'll likely continue serving select customers, flipping real-estate & investing.
For now I'm just driven to accumulate more licenses.

I'll be keeping an eye on openings in select municipalities but until I have more licenses in my pocket I'll likely keep earning for a while yet.

Never had a "real" job. So we'll see, but this seems like a useful way to keep me off the streets & out of the lounge in retirement.

Using more of my mind & less of my body to earn my bread & stogies was my motive when I started on this path. Now I suspect it's part of some plan I don't yet understand.

Get licenses! Get 'em all!
That's all I'm thinking of right now.

Thanks, we don't have exams per say, some weekly quizzes on the reading and stuff.

Most of the work this term is assignments, writing up responses to case studies, writing up project plans, risk assessments/mitigation and stuff. I've done a bunch of that in a previous life so its more of getting motivated to write it up. Most of it is just regurgitating the stuff I did before but tailoring it to meet requirements in the specific scenario/case study. It's not rocket surgery.

It's hard for me to get motivated on this pushing paperwork stuff. I really enjoy leaning new things on a technical side. I want to know how things tick and how to make them better. My previous work stuff started to migrate into management roles and spending way too many hours at a desk doing BS paperwork. That's not my cup of tea.

As with you, I'll need to get some certifications beyond the degree (a silly piece of paper that says I made it though school). I'll pass that bridge when I come to it but it's on the horizon so I should start looking in them

With the new career change and another degree, I'll probably be starting out at the ground level doing rookie IT stuff. Prolly make 1/2 or 1/3 of what I did doing what I did before.

It's not about the money to me. I met a fork in the road and I took it (paraphrase a quote attributed to Yogi Berra) It was a conscience decision that I didn't take lightly.

Back on topic: "Knowledge recently acquired..."

WalMart sells sex toys located near the pharmacy and condoms (I did not know that until I had to inventory that area of the store). Aisle F16, no matter where you are in the US, is where you'll find deodorants, sex stuff, pregnancy kits and so forth.

LEO'S need and appreciate community support. In our little paradise when law enforcement needs more than their funding can support we pitch in a little so they get what they need. We often hear thank you for the help. We just say no, thank you.

Canola Oil.

The entomology of Canola is Canada Oil, which is where the oil was developed at the University of Manitoba, derived from grape seed.

Actor Jimmy Stewart.

He continued his service in the Air Force reserve, flying missions in B-52 bombers. He even flew as an observer on a bombing mission during the Vietnam War. He retired as a brigadier general from the Air Force in 1968.

Had no idea.

Amazon bought IMDb back in 1998 for $55M (along with two other companies).

IMDb TV launched it's streaming service in 2019. Free streaming but add supported. It's a new one to me.

It looks like about 10 commercials each hour - two chunks of 5 commercials each. Not super disruptive but any commercials of any type are annoying. I think you can get it commercial free if you have Amazon Prime, probably in some settings for the app somewhere (shrug).
