HA! Leave it to Frankie to read between the lines!

But no... I went to Total Wine wit da puppy (he likes wandering the aisles and the employees love him) and asked one of the wino's for a recommendation. Told him that I like reds, but they usually give me a headache and he recommended an "old world" style. Chose one from the Greek section that was actually from Portugal.

It's delicious and no headache.

Spey and HD and ded know way more, but I've liked a lot of cheap reds from Douro.
Good stuff cheap from Portugal, and Spain too for that matter

Made a braised beef the other day with balsamic vinegar, beef broth and some cheap merlot. I don't drink wine nowadays but I do cook with it occasionally. No idea what year or what winery, too lazy to go look. This one was like $7 a bottle or something. Not worth it to spend a lot of money on wine to cook with.

I NEVER cook with "cooking wine." It's a rip off. It's just cheap wine (not even sure I'd classify it as real wine) with a bunch of salt and preservatives added then sold at about 1000x what it's really worth.

When I did partake in drinking wine, I liked dry reds and I'd say merlot was my favorite.

If you wouldn't drink it, don't cook with it. $7 does not get you drinkable wine IMHO. $10 will.

Yeeha! I just signed a contract with a wine broker in Napa to purchase a bunch of my 1996-1998 Harlan Estate. Glad to get it out of the Vinotemp.

Prolly could have done a little better at auction but you take your chances and this is confirmed plus they handle all the shipping/packing charges.

The Two Buck Chuck of Shiraz for about $5 it's hard to beat. Iffn you can find the Reserve at around $10-11 it drinks better than most $20 bottles IMO.

I think,

Seci Cianti Clasico
Storia de Familia

But what do I know?

Chianti Classico has by far the best vineyards in Chianti. 2019 is a very good vintage. The bottle you had is 100% Sangiovese I think.
