.....................Report That Blames His Administration For Afghanistan Disaster

President Joe Biden faced backlash late on Thursday after he attacked the credibility of the U.S. Army following its report that blamed the Biden administration for the disastrous pullout from Afghanistan late last summer.

Biden made the remarks during an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt in response to a question about a report that was in The Washington Post, which reported earlier in the day:

Senior White House and State Department officials failed to grasp the Taliban’s steady advance on Afghanistan’s capital and resisted efforts by U.S. military leaders to prepare the evacuation of embassy personnel and Afghan allies weeks before Kabul’s fall, placing American troops ordered to carry out the withdrawal in greater danger, according to sworn testimony from multiple commanders involved in the operation.

“On the subject of American citizens, I have to draw your attention to that Army report, an investigative report that’s come out about the lead up to the withdrawal from Afghanistan,” Holt said. “It interviewed many military officials and officers who said the administration ignored the handwriting on the wall. Another described trying to get folks in the Embassy ready to evacuate, encountering people who were essentially in denial of the situation.”

“Does any of that ring true to you?” Holt asked.

“No,” Biden claimed. “No, that’s not what I was told. … No. What I was told, no one told me that, look, there was no good time to get out. But if we had not gotten out, they acknowledged that we would have had to put a hell of a lot more troops back in. It wasn’t just 2,000, 4,000, we would have to significantly increase the number of troops, and we’re back in this this war of attrition. And, and there was no way we were ever going to unite Ukraine, excuse me, Iraq, Afghanistan. No way that was going to happen. And so this is a much wiser thing to do.”

“I just want to clarify, are you rejecting the conclusions or the the accounts that are in this Army report?” Holt asked.

“Yes, I am,” Biden claimed.

“So they’re not true?” Holt pressed.

“I’m rejecting them,” Biden claimed.

Rep. Peter Meijer (R-MI) responded to Biden’s remarks by writing in a tweet, “The only non-profane thing I can say is he has impressive message discipline on ‘defending the *concept* of withdrawal’ (objectively defensible, to which I agree) versus ‘defending the *execution* of the withdrawal’ (objectively indefensible, which still boils my blood).”

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) called Biden’s remarks “delusional.”

“Joe Biden tonight DENYING the facts laid out in a 2000 page Army report on the collapse of Afghanistan – and the White House’s total lack of preparation,” Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) wrote on Twitter. “It is time Senate Democrats stopped the whitewash and held hearings. In public. Now.”

TRANSCRIPT:

LESTER HOLT, NBC NEWS HOST: On the subject of American citizens, I have to draw your attention to that Army report, an investigative report that’s come out about the lead up to the withdrawal from Afghanistan. It interviewed many military officials and officers who said the administration ignored the handwriting on the wall. Another described trying to get folks in the Embassy ready to evacuate, encountering people who were essentially in denial of the situation. Does any of that ring true to you?

JOE BIDEN, PRESIDENT: No. No, that’s not what I was told.

HOLT: That, you were told that the U.S. administration officials were prepared, they knew it was time to get out?

BIDEN: No. And so this is a much wiser thing to do.

HOLT: I just want to clarify, are you rejecting the conclusions or the the accounts that are in this Army report?

BIDEN: Yes, I am.

HOLT: So they’re not true?

BIDEN: I’m rejecting them.

This is predictable with Biden. Lay blame elsewhere. I agree with the military though I am glad we are out of Afghanistan.

Lemme see if I got this...A breakdown of what was told to the Commander in Chief by military brass and Joe decided to do things his way with the mechanism of his Cabinet. Close off airbases and get soldiers out first and then force them all onto a civilian airport with the Taliban surrounding the entire place with checkpoints! Leaving behind BILLIONS in weapons, ammunition, uniforms, vehicles, fixed wing and helicopters and Joe is saying he doesn't believe the breakdown of the tragedy and largest military blunder where we STILL have Americans trapped over there...

PS: one of King Bidas' dummies announced today that all Americans better get out of Ukraine as an invasion is eminent and the US government isn't going to save anyone. I think I'd believe them as their track record is real thin in the Rescue Department.

When I was born the doctor came out to the waiting room and said to my father, “I’m very sorry. We did everything we could…but he pulled through.”

Biden's Afghanistan Debacle Looks Worse and Worse

While the Biden administration’s chaotic and inept withdrawal from Afghanistan was unfolding in August 2021, a suicide bomber murdered 13 American service members, and at least 170 Afghans, at the Abbey Gate outside Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport. It was one of the deadliest attacks on our troops in our 20 years in that nation.

“Know this,” President Joe Biden said after the bombing. “We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay.” This turned out to be face-saving political theater. Three days later, an air strike killed ten Afghans, seven of them children. Not one of the dead, as far as we know, was an “ISIS facilitator,” as the administration had alleged.

In fact, the Pentagon now says that the bombing was the work of a lone terrorist rather than a “complex” network, as the Biden administration had initially maintained. At the time, Gen. Mark Milley not only referred to the strike as “valid” and “righteous” but went further to describe a “secondary explosion” and a supposed plethora of evidence justifying the bombing. None of that, it seems, was true.

We also learn through ProPublica’s recent investigation into the Kabul suicide bombing that, despite intelligence warning of terrorist attacks, U.S. military commanders encouraged use of the routes. Some U.S. officials even provided maps to evacuees trying to bypass Taliban fighters stationed at a checkpoint outside the airport.

The fact that the murderer of 13 Americans “likely” gained access to troops via a path that U.S. officials were encouraging people to use seems quite noteworthy. As does the fact that we were helping evacuees circumvent the Taliban even as the Biden administration was assuring the American public that the Islamic militants were facilitating the extraction of Americans.

These are the same Taliban with whom the Biden administration had reportedly shared a list of “American citizens, green card holders and Afghan allies.” It is the same Taliban that the administration declared had comported themselves in a “businesslike and professional” manner.

You will recall as well White House press secretary Jen Psaki contending that no Americans had been “stranded” in Afghanistan. Secretary of State Antony Blinken would later say that there were “under 200” Americans remaining in Afghanistan who “want to leave.”

A new Senate Foreign Relations Committee report from ranking member Jim Risch (R- Idaho) contends that State Department officials estimated that in August, 10,000-15,000 Americans were trapped in Afghanistan. Over the two weeks the Afghan forces disintegrated, 6,000 Americans were able to escape. I’m not a math whiz, but that leaves a lot more than zero, or even 200, stranded. How many of those American citizens, green card holders or Afghan allies had their names handed to the Taliban? Were the interpreters on that list being hunted down or beheaded by Islamists?

The Pentagon investigation into the bombing, relying on hundreds of witness interviews and drone footage and reports by medical examiners, concludes that the suicide bombing at Abbey Gate was “not preventable.” In truth, the attack became unpreventable only after the Biden administration evacuated secure positions without having extracted those who wanted to leave.

A recently declassified report by the special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction, which was submitted to the Department of Defense in January 2021, also warned the administration that the Afghan air force would quickly collapse. Military personnel would have been “much better prepared to conduct a more orderly” evacuation, said Navy Rear Adm. Peter Vasely, the top U.S. commander on the ground, “if policymakers had paid attention to the indicators of what was happening on the ground.”

Yet none of this advice stopped the president from abandoning the Bagram Airfield. Nor did it prompt him to set up military safe zones to retrieve stranded Americans or Afghan allies before retreating. His failure to do so caused a bottleneck at the Kabul airport that put troops and civilians in needless danger.

Biden was wedded to the Taliban’s timeline. Given that he’s shown reliably disastrous foreign-policy instincts over 50 years in public life, this isn’t exactly surprising. It’s also increasingly clear that the administration ignored warnings because it believed leaving Afghanistan, which was quite popular in polls, would be a political slam dunk early in his term.

That was Biden’s prerogative. The president has no obligation to follow the advice of his generals. Undoubtedly, many of them would advocate for a U.S. presence in Afghanistan in perpetuity. As a policy matter, Biden’s botching of the evacuation is a separate issue from whether the United States should have withdrawn. However, once Biden decided to embrace what the Trump administration had begun, the responsibility to protect American lives was his. There are numerous questions yet to be answered on why he failed to do so.

And he wants to still blame Trump despite there being actual meetings declaring how a Trump pull out of that nation was going to look like. Sorry Plugs...you're lying again.

Report: Jill Biden Hampered Afghanistan Evacuation With Special Requests

The disaster that took place in Afghanistan in 2021 no longer dominates the headlines, but the after-effects are still being felt. After the evacuation, which resulted in the murder of 13 American servicemembers and countless Afghans, the Biden administration is still trying to clean up the mess it created.

With women and children set to starve in incredible numbers because of the haphazard pull-out, the president is now moving to issue an executive order that will use frozen funds from the Afghan central bank for humanitarian relief.

The problem with such an order is obvious. The Taliban is a terrorist organization masquerading as a legitimate government. Any money sent into the country is going to be misused and appropriated for nefarious activities. As to giving compensation to the 9/11 victims’ families, that feels like a rather convenient throw-in as Democrats face electoral doom in November.

Regardless, the question of how things got to this point remains important, and a recent report by the U.S. Army puts much of the blame on the decisions that emanated from the Biden administration during that fateful time. As expected, Joe Biden himself has already rejected its findings, but it includes a very interesting mention of Jill Biden.

Per the testimony of Navy Admiral Peter Vasely, who was running the operations center at Kabul’s airport during the evacuation, the First Lady and others were making special requests that ultimately ate up “bandwidth” and hampered the mission.

An admiral for the U.S. Navy claimed “high-profile” requests, including one from first lady Jill Biden, caused disruption to overall Afghanistan evacuation efforts last year…

”That’s accurate,” Vasley said when asked in sworn testimony for the report whether Pope Francis and First Lady Jill Biden intervened in evacuation efforts to request help on behalf of others.

“I was being contacted by representatives from the Holy See to assist the Italian military contingent … in getting through groups … of special interest to the Vatican,” he said. “That is just one of many examples.”

“I cannot stress enough how these high-profile requests ate up bandwidth and created competition for already stressed resources,” Vasley added.

What the exact request was from Jill Biden isn’t disclosed, but we can reasonably ascertain that it had something to do with prioritizing a certain person or group of people for evacuation.

In a vacuum, you could look at such a request as being made in good faith. No doubt, there were lots of people on the ground in Afghanistan that deserved to be evacuated. But that doesn’t mean that it’s appropriate for the First Lady, who holds no elected office and has no actual role to play in the government, to get involved in a military operation.

It was completely out of bounds for Jill Biden to put that kind of pressure on military leaders, who likely wanted to do their best to fulfill her request — given her husband is the president. That’s the danger in abusing relationships that include varying power dynamics. In this case, according to the report, the move by the First Lady led to negative real-world consequences, handicapping an already chaotic operation.

Imagine if this report were dealing with Melania Trump. How would the media react? I’d suggest this would be a full-blown scandal, no matter what the motivation behind the request was. Jill Biden is largely protected on that front, though. She is a Democrat, after all. Still, there’s something really unsettling about a First Lady who is so comfortable stepping outside the chain of command to make demands of those who do not answer to her.

The military had enough to worry about during that tumultuous time. Jill Biden interjecting her wants into the situation only caused unnecessary confusion and ate up valuable resources. That’s not my opinion. Rather, that’s the conclusion of the U.S. Army, and it should be taken seriously, not dismissed out of hand by the president.
