I was reading through "faq" and hints on one of the websites and I'll be danged if I can't find it now to give credit where credit is due.

But the gist of it was to get a max butane refill on your lighter, put it in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes prior to filling it. Fill it, and let warm up before using it. OK.

So I tried it this morning. Normally, without all the purging nonsense I get about a 1/4 inch "air" gap in the reservoir. After tossing it the fridge for awhile, no muss, no fuss, it just FILLED with only a 1/16-1/8th in gap. Holy crap. Huge difference from it's normal. Not even going to try and purge that. It's almost maxed out.

It's my new ritual. It works. Applause

If you hold the lighter upside down and do a quick press on the release that will usually purge most of the air out and the u can fill all the way up. Sometimes you will need to do it twice. Rarely 3 times.

Fill
Press
Fill.
Repeat as necessary.

Interesting. Think

I'll try it next time I have to refill my Xikar Tech Single and see how much more I can squeeze in.

Thanks.

yes, hold upside down and do the purge, I believe that removes what little butane remains...but if you turn it right side up and purge out the bottom, you will get the rest of the air too.

First upside down, then right side up. I may have the gasses mixed up, but you'll be better off getting both.

I don’t know that I’d want that little head space, you need room for the gas to help maintain pressure that liquid can’t. But that’s just me.....

The smaller area, the more pressure. The liquid evaporates at the same rate. I'm getting much better jets now.

I tried putting my empty lighters in the fridge but would often times completely forget that I had them in there. Haven’t done it in awhile so can’t really recall if it was worth the effort.
