Cigars too humid?
I hear a lot of guys saying to let your cigars sit in the humi for a few weeks before smoking them. I assume that means because they are usually too dry. I’ve had 3 cbid orders so far and I feel like they have all been too humid. Some taste a bit sour and some have draw/burn issues. They’re definitely all spongy to the touch and you could practically step on them and they wouldn’t crack. I’m a fairly new to the cigar hobby and brand new to cbid. Am I over thinking this or has anyone had similar humidity issues? Thanks in advance.

Most of the time cigars you get online will be in the upper levels of RH, like very close to, or at 70, maybe even a bit higher sometimes.
Most seasoned cigar smokers smoke at 60 - 65 RH.
Summer shipments to some areas of the country, if lost in the mail, etc. can arrive dried out a bit, but over humidification is more common.

People rest the cigars after getting them to let the humidity even out to the level they prefer. Sometimes it means humidifying dry cigars, but as you see, sometimes it means letting the humidity come down. You could take the cellophane off ones that you want to smoke first, and they will acclimate faster.

Somebody on here said to give them a week of rest in your humidor for each day of travel. That seems like a pretty good rule of thumb.

It is. ThumpUp

Of course, there’s also “accidental” rest. I’ve noticed that as my cigar collection got bigger and I had a wider selection of cigars to smoke, it was easier and easier to take a new shipment, stash it away and not be tempted to try one ROTT (…sorry Howard…). By the time I remembered / ran across them, it could easily be two to 3 months. These days I put an event into my calendar to remind me.

yah...I can barely remember the early days when I didn't have enough in my cache to avoid the dreaded problems that come with smoking cigars ROTT...most were way too wet ........and my smoking rhythm was like an oversexed rabbit...

The vast majority of vendors ship too wet, at least in my experience. My recommendation, if you are patient, is to give them 30-90 days of rest at your preferred humidity. If you are a ROTT kinda guy, then dry boxing can be a quick fix, but that isn't full proof. I've got boxes that have taken a good six months to finally get smokeable. In the worse case, especially for large format cigars, if you really want to smoke one soon ish and you know they are a little wet, cut or punch it and put it in the dry box for a couple days.

I like to smoke them right off the truck,
You seem all down and mopey and sh*t out of luck,
that's what you get when you trying to save a buck,
I'll take 'em wet and sloppy, I don't gaf,
Just pipe down and light that sh*t and give it a suck!
