Asylum Seven
LFD La Volcada
Southern Draw Lady killer (LCA release)

Ask me tomorrow and there's a 98.2% chance my answer will be different

Hey, I've tried the Fuente Hemingway more than once. Found it bitter and subpar. Red Dots far better.

P.S. I didn't read one word of what you wrote ... just as you predicted. ;-)

Man o war virtue. Don pepin blue. Oliva melanio. Intensa Florida sun grown. Herrera esteli maduro. There’s a quick 5 looking in my humidor. I prefer all those. They’re all over the board as far as strength. Try those cigars. I think you’d like each of them at least as well. Damn sure less then 20$ a stick Too left row of my personal smoke now humidor. That said I smoke cohiba occasionally. Just not something I’ll buy next time. 3$ is max I’d pay for them.

Is there a particular Don Pepin you like best?

I can't find the word "blue" in them - but here's what came up. So I'm assuming these are the "blue" you're talking about, no?

which do you recommend I try?

Bones... Bones... Bones...

Yes, those are the Pepin "blue"... You know, because they have a blue band. His other Pepin has a black band. Then there are all the MF smokes, but I digress...

Which one? Any one. They are all likely better than a NC Cohiba Red Dot. Get whichever one you want. Hell, get one of each and figure it out for yourself.

Also, and this is important, let them sit for at least a month in your humidor before you smoke them. They need to rest and acclimate. Likely the Red Dots didn't need this because no one was buying them from CBid so they sat and rested a long time in the warehouse.

Finally, and on the subject of your storage, overhumidified cigars tend to be bitter. Aim for 65%-68% RH. Some here even prefer lower than that. I stick with 65% but YMMV.

I'd recommend trying the Serie JJ too as a good Pepin smoke. I do like the blue better, but still enjoy the JJ

Yes that’s it. The blue band is called the original. “Ol blue”. Since the corona is on free fall and I know I like them I’d buy that. If you like corona. Get a few of those. Or the box if you have space. They age rather well. I have a box of toro from 2015 that are smoking brilliant. As mentioned the jj is also good. I have half a box of them as well. The black is ok. Good smoke but not as good as the other 2. Maybe grab a toro original first. Our tastes are all different. I really like vanilla ice cream

Oh. 6$ is retail price for a toro so I wouldn’t go over that. I typically buy my toro from the local shpo because he lets me dig through the boxes to find old stock. 6$ per is what he charges.

I'm going to go in a slightly different direction. From what you have said, I'm skeptical that you are going to like many of these suggestions. Many of the people on here, including me, smoke heavier bodied cigars than you seem to like. Fuentes were suggested earlier, and that's what I think of as a mild/medium bodied smoke, but you said you don't like Hemingways. Fuente makes a lot of other cigars, you may want to sort through them.

Ashton (also made by Fuente) is another good mild/medium smoke, but you probably want to stay away from VSG, ESG as they are stronger.

Sounds to me like you should check out more offerings by the General - RyJ, Montecristo, Hoyo de Monterrey, etc. Punch is my favorite General cigar line, but they tend to be stronger except for the regular Punch Clasico.

I also like La Aurora's stuff, and they have more mild/medium offerings (107, preferidos, etc.). You probably want to stay away from the Barrel Aged and ADN. I like them, doubt you would.

I'm sure there are more "craft" suggestions for mild/medium smokes, but I don't have any because I don't smoke them.

I think you are right.

I was introduced to the cuban Cohiba Esplendidos - churchills - and those were the smoothest cigars I've ever smoked. They wrecked me.

So whenever I find something remotely similar, I like it. That's probably why I like the Cohiba (non cubans). They aren't the same, but somewhat similar.

Except for their Black Dot line. Which I'd suspect you'd like since it's heavier, darker, stronger.

I'm still experimenting. If I could find something very similar to the Cohiba Esplendidos, I'd be super happy.

Try a Joya black, a well aged Joya Antano, MF Le Bijou torpedo, HE Estelli, LFD Double ligero.

I liked it when I first tried it, but now it seems far too mild for my tastes. The Norteno was stronger but had a chalkiness to the smoke that I didn't care for, like it was very dry smoke.

that, to me, is the whole enchilada...it's like the holy grails...Cuban flavor profiles are unique, and very pleasant. So are cigars made elsewhere with tobaccos grown all over the world.

The CH Jericho Hill did that a few years ago, but others have similar profiles. The Mbombay Gaaja has a very unique and enjoyable flavor that I haven't experienced in other cigars.

I’ve smoked some of your cigars delta. They were very good and yes unique profiles. That’s what I hunt for. The blackbird unkind (purple) was an interesting smoke. Tried the robusto. Think I need a few more of those

Stogie I thought the original esteli was hovering in the full area. I’ll try one again in the next several days. It’s been a bit for me.

The rest of the blackbirds were fairly generic.

Tatuaje and Fuentes are so good I would buy some if not for the price. Now I want illusione, perdomo, aladino, eiroa and lfd which prolly cost over my pain threshold. C what u dun?
I have some melanios and Don blues that I save for the apocalypse.
I don't mind Dominicana Cohibas at $2-3 but I luv regular ave Maria's so much at under $2 that I am sliding the ring to stop losing the crackly wrappers.

Smoke better cigars less often.

If you want to smoke more often get a pipe and buy some Peter Stokerby luxury twist flake.

^^ PS is great pipe tobacco. Luxury Twist is an amazing straight VA. Navy Flake is a nice VA/Per. Bullseye is a good coin, but I prefer Escudo or Davidoff. My favorite PS blend though is Cube Cut.

Buy any of 'em by the pound, smoke some now and age the rest in Mason jars. You won't be sorry.

Cohiba Macassar is one of the worst cigars. Crap construction, crap appearance, crap burn, bland uneventful taste. To me they taste like they’re aged out. I taste no hint of barrel aging. Ridiculously overpriced. Luckily grabbed 5pack for 35 on Jambalaya. Love the Nicaragua. Black isn’t nearly as good as Romeo Black. Blue label stunk IMO. Have the Weller, CT, Royale, & Dominican on deck resting. Looking forward to the Red Dot. Just grabbed a 5pack on Jambalaya for
30. I love that Joe’s Jambalaya! Wanna great barrel aged smoke? Camacho American BA is the shiznit all day!!!!

Unlike many on here - I don't dislike non-Cuban Cohibas. There are some I like (for the right price) and some I don't (at any price). I agree with ZRX - Cuban Cohibas are definitely not worth the price to be able to get them in the US. I have a friend who is Cuban and brings them back when he visits his family. They're good - no doubt - but they are not hundreds-of-dollars per stick good.

As for the General Cigar Cohibas - If I had to I'd probably rank them like this -

1) White (Connecticut)/Puro Dominica
2) Black
3) Red Dot
4) Maccassar
5) Nicaragua
6) Royale
7) Blue

This is also not taking into consideration limited edition/small batch lines like - Spectre, Serie M, Serie C8, or Weller by Cohiba. Of the list - the only ones I wouldn't smoke at ANY price would probably be the Royales and the Blues. I found nothing enjoyable about either when I've had them. As for the rest of the lot - I wouldn't go much above $5 per stick - which is easy enough to do if you watch Cigar.com/CI/CB/Thompson (all owned by Scandavian Tobacco Group - including General Cigar if you didn't know).

We know, but 'cher still not allowed to talk about 'em. CI was known as the mother ship for years because you couldn't reference it either. Not that there seems to be too close of attention paid nowadays

Thanks!

I had a fake Cohiba once
It was actually great

Fake as in - the guy who gave it to me didn't know it wasn't a real Habanos Cohiba.
It prolly was cuban is my guess?

The band was almost a perfect match to the real deal.

At first glance I was fooled.

He was incredulous when I noticed & pointed it out.

I thanked him profusely then later gave him a real one.
He still seemed offended
