Is that what you are looking for?
If bourbon for someone you don't know will like, maybe an upper level Four Roses?

Four Roses might fit the bill but thety don't seem to have anything in that $$60-$75 range...

I have a buddy who is not amenable to any booze with any amount of bite, but he raves about a bottle of Whistlepig he was gifted. Now I am conflicted.

haven't had every version of Whistlepig but have liked what I had.
I'm guessing your friend enjoys the spiciness of rye and differentiates that from the bite of rough booze...?

How’s the Rowan’s?

Weller 12 tonight, dang that’s nice stuff

Finally got my hands on an EH Taylor yesterday, at retail! I’d say it’s as nice as this 12 I’m having tonight…

Noah's mill is one of my favorites but although they are related, I find Noah's and rowans to be very different. Rowans has a lot of meh reviews but I have been really liking it lately, especially at $36. I just got two more bottles.

Yeah, tough to say. I also haven't been to his house lately to see which bottle he has.

Had never heard of MB Roland until I saw Drew Estates is hosting a Barn Smoker event in there in October. The Fire Cured caught my eye as I was looking over their website. I'm going to have to take a Saturday drive up there soon and check it out.

2 new additions to the bourbon bar...

Maker's Mark 46 Cask Strength and Wild Turkey 101 Rye. Recommendations from the "bourbon brothers" group text. LOL

You know the one where they're accusing me of being Ram Rod. (spoiler: not me)

Tried it. Tasted some cherry notes... not a fave, but if it's poured, I'm drinking it.

RR Single Barrel still the #1 bourbon I've tried, so far.

Still kicking myself for passing on a sale when they were going for $35-ish a few years ago. Brick wall

Made myself an old fashioned with a small twist.

4 dashes Angostura Orange bitters
1/2 tsp simple syrup
2 oz Wild Turkey 101 rye

Garnish with a cherry and a big block of ice.

Came up for a couple weeks with the mrs. will come back with mom for the summer on June 10th, after my 30th wedding anniversary. Gotta juggle them, since they stopped speaking 5-6 years ago. Brick wall

Saturday night was a Buffalo Trace night.

You know Ron, they had been picking at each other for several years before they had the blowout. By then I was so tired of playing referee that I was done. Get along or not. NOT MY PROBLEM! Kinda sucks, but so did the constant bickering. Brick wall

Oh yeah, Blantons. In Wyoming. I’m happy

Believe me, I was asked to choose, by both of them. I told them I’m gonna do what I want with who I want when I want and not have any lip from either of them. I love em both, but not together

Single Barrel > Small Batch?

The small batch is great if the single barrel is not available.

And don't forget the Small Batch Select that Four Roses began offering a couple of years ago.

It is for me…but as Dan said, iffin’ you can’t find the Single then maybe the Select and Small, in that order?

The fun part is trying different expressions to find the ones you like. 🥃
