Mark, his wife, their daughter / DIL(?) and her oldest daughter will be visiting Hawaii later this month! Numi used some reward points to book a couple of nights for free but our daughter will be upgrading them to an ocean view room and was able to get them a killer rate - $159 per night - for the balance of their trip. Iirc, the cheapest online price was $250+ per night.

We’ve made tentative plans to meet at The Row Bar for cigars and adult beverages one night. HOnizuka will be there too. Beer

Can’t wait to meet Mark!

Palma, your daughter is a very good person for doing that for Numi.

The original reservation was for 2 adults and 1 child but they added the granddaughter’s Mom recently. I told our daughter about the change and she said it was gonna be tight in their one bedroom room. She kinda suggested that they re-book to a 2 bedroom. The next day I was gonna tell Mark that they might wanna change but then our daughter said no need. Haven’t, yet, found out what she meant but I’mma guessing she upgraded them without changing the rate or to something more accommodating for 4 people.

What a cool cat.
Always great to see him on the VHerf back some time ago.
Hope to have a cigar and drink whiskey with him one day…

Numi (Mark) is great people. Had the fortune to be able to share dinner with him and his wife a few (many) years ago in Birmingham. He is quite the character. Have fun

HOnizuka and I met up with Mark, Ellen, Taylor (Mark’s daughter) and Bella (Taylor’s daughter) last night at The Row Kaka’ako.

Had a great time. But…

Found out that none of the Cary clan are fans of fish, let alone raw fish! What is wrong with those people? Broaden your horizons! Homer suggested they try a Loco Moco and SPAM musubi. Apparently SPAM is not high on their taste bud list either. At least they were open to the Loco Moco.

As Madspackler said, MC is definitely a character! The stories that man can tell!

Cigars exchanged but Mark bombed the hell outta me and Homer!

We’re hoping to meet up one more time before they leave on Wednesday.

Depending on the fish - what a waste! Brick wall

I mean, dontcha wanna cutback on your fried foods? Smoked or grilled is cool…and I guess blackened too.

But man, nothing like some fresh, raw yellowtail / hamachi…melts in your mouth! Yummy, yummy! Drool

Do I WANT to cut back on fried foods? Absolutely not!

SHOULD I cut back on fried foods? Indubitably!

As for traditionally prepared sushi, while I can't verify freshness, did not enjoy the texture

Texture seemed to be the overriding reason why Mark’s family doesn’t care for raw fish either. Of course there are some, Bella as an example, that tried it once and didn’t care for the texture and taste. But, she’s 12 years old so there’s a chance she’ll come around. Btw, for those of you that know the story, Bella is Peyton’s younger sister.
