Best Alice in Chains Album. Period.

Every song is just... WTF good.

I liked Dirt. It was awesome. Pretty much every song. But Jar of Flies? Masterful. Layne Staley was just... damn.

Thanks.

Gave “Jars” a whirl.

I missed over a decade of rock while I was focused on my mail order Hawaiian music business so (very) slowly catching up on some of the music I passed over. Liked what I heard and at some point, will listen to more of AIC.

Are you saying you missed the 90s? Dear lord, we've got some work to do!

As far as music goes, basically, yah.

Classic Hawaiian music albums started coming out on CD in the early ‘90s and since the store I used to work at didn’t want to get into the mail order basis, I seized the opportunity. Bought our first computer in ‘92 and friends helped me put together our catalog and newsletter. Learned how to use PageMaker, Excel, Word and FileMaker Pro. During our height (…’94 to around ‘01…), I immersed myself in the genre and rarely listened to anything other than Hawaiian music. Had great fun but we never grossed more than $50K so realized that it was never gonna be a full-time gig. Plus, a lot of the “good stuff” had been released so there weren’t as many “hey, you guys gotta buy this” albums to market. The (newer) music scene was also changing from Contemporary Hawaiian to more Jawaiian (…a chitty blend of Hawaiian and Reggae…) so our customers weren’t buying the new stuff. Kinda lost steam after that and eventually put it to rest a couple years later.

Liked them at the time, but appreciated more as years passed. As mentioned, Dirt is also good and the MTV Unplugged is a mellow, grooving, good time.

As for the rest of the decade, apologies in advance for anything too heavy, garagey, punky, etc:
(And apologies to Macs. Not taking anything away from JoF)
Pearl Jam - Ten
Nirvana - Nevermind/ MTV Unplugged
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream / Mellon Collie
Soundgarden - Super unknown
Breeders - Surfer Rosa
Jane's Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual
Weezer - Self titled a.k.a the blue album
The Offspring - Smash / Ixnay / Americana
Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape
Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill
Black Crowes - Shake Your Moneymaker
The Fugees - The Score
Rage Against the Machine - self titled
GnR - Use Your Illusion I & II
Ozzy - No More Tears
Metallica - self titled a.k.a. the black album (old school fans despise but still a great album IMO)
Green Day - Dookie
Fugazi - Repeater
Tricky - Pre-Millenium Tension

Off the top of my head. Sure there's several I'm forgetting

Thanks. ThumpUp

At least I’ve listened to or heard of a few of the artists. Some more than others but a good sampling for me to catch up on.

Got all those in my collection...

Also had Jagged little pill but traded it to a buddy for VH f.u.c.k. - he still regrets that trade.

Yeah, JLP's a good listen, but I'd take either David or Sammy version of VH over it. Not the Gary Cherone chit though

Ritual de lo Habitual and Nothing's Shocking are 1A and 1B from Jane's Addiction. I'd be hard pressed to pick one over the other.

I don't disagree. Ritual was my first Jane's album, so the one I tend to gravitate towards.

And I see your point there , Macs

I always said I didn't like grunge.
Turns out I just didn't like Nirvana. Like, at all. I mean I really don't like anything they've ever did. Even a little.

And GNR Use your Illusion would have been fantastic if they combined I and II into a single CD (rather than two doubles).

And how can anyone not simply love how angry Alanis gets in You Ought to Know.
