How long did it take to learn all of the jargon?
Is the language different between the branches?
Or is it different, like the alphabet? Different between police and military?

Question arises as watching Band of Brothers. Maybe I asked this 10 years ago, but don't remember the answer.

Not long. Its more of a full immersion test that you're able to gleem what FUBAR means. I died laughing and did extra pushups for laughing the 1st time I heard Swinging Richards being used.

The police pretty much borrowed and stole from the military...most of them went through that door 1st.

That's my .02 cents.

Think of it as pain compliance. The sooner you learn it the sooner the pain goes away.

For the most part their is two sets of language. The Navy, Marines and Coast Guard speak one. The Army and Air Force another.

Ex1: Restroom is either a Head or a Latrine depending on branch.
Ex2: Yardarm or Flagpole

Forgot about that. I tossed that list in the trash the day they gave it to me. Fortunately they didn’t mind use of the military alphabet since we had numerous veterans who had before me done the same thing.

Imagine the government devising a system, on purpose, so everyone could NOT be on the same page. Just plain dumb.

Thanks for the info, veterans.
