The nationwide shortage of baby formula that has sent mothers desperately rushing from store to store has evaded one lucky group: illegal immigrants detained by Border Patrol.

According to videos posted by a Florida lawmaker, the Biden administration has been shipping “pallets” of baby formula to migrant holding facilities.

“They are sending pallets, pallets of baby formula to the border,” said Republican Rep. Kat Cammack in one of two online postings yesterday. “Meanwhile, in our own district at home, we cannot find baby formula,” she added, holding a photo of empty shelves where the formula would be.

Of course, if your Democratic this would be normal Brick wall

The shelves for baby formula at the store where I work are pretty bare and I don't see much coming in in the near future. We get a little coming in here and there of the general stuff but it gets bought out pretty quickly. It saddens me when customers ask when I expect to get more in and I can't give them a definitive answer. Even supply for prescription formula (typically meant for preemies and/or infants with special diets) that is bought through our pharmacy is pretty scarce.

It's not just our store, it's in all stores in our area.

FDA failed to protect families in baby formula shortage crisis

People are stunned when I tell them I don’t want kids but here’s why

From September 2021 to February 2022, the CDC received reports of Cronobacter bacteria cases in infants in Minnesota, Ohio and Texas that resulted in four illnesses with two deaths. These illnesses were ultimately linked by the CDC and FDA to the consumption of powdered infant formula produced by Abbott in its Sturgis, Michigan facility. A worldwide recall of formula produced in the plant has left store shelves bare and parents scrambling for safe alternatives to feed their babies.

According to the CDC, Cronobacter can cause severe, life-threatening infections or meningitis. Although Cronobacter infections are rare, they can be deadly in newborns in the first days or weeks of life with a mortality rate between 50% and 80%. Only a handful of Cronobacter infections are reported yearly, but given only the state of Minnesota requires labs to report positive tests, it is unclear how many illnesses are missed.

How did the FDA find itself facing thousands of scared and angry parents? It is a history of warning signs ignored.

In September 2019, the last time the FDA inspected the facility, the FDA cited Abbott for failing to test an adequate amount of formula to assure that it met “the required microbiological quality standards.”

In September 2021, after two years with no on-site inspection, the FDA returned to Abbott and found several concerning practices that likely lead to formula contamination, specifically, Abbott failed to “maintain a building used in the manufacture, processing, packing or holding of infant formula in a clean and sanitary condition.”
New Yorkers have been dealing with a weeks longe shortage of baby formula products, leaving them scrambling to feed their babies.

Families are struggling to purchase essential baby formula for their newborns.

In October, 2021, the FDA was warned in a confidential whistleblower document by a former Abbott employee who worked at the Sturgis facility, that Abbott was falsifying records, releasing untested formula into the market and failing to adequately clean the plant. It took months for the FDA to take action, House Appropriations Chair Rosa DeLauro told Politico.

In its March 2022 recall notice, Abbott acknowledged having found “evidence of Cronobacter sakazakii in the plant in non-product contact areas,” but denied having found the bacterium in finished product. This would appear to be in direct contradiction to the FDA’s revelation that the company had recorded the destruction of product in the past due to the presence of Cronobacter. Specifically, “a review of the firm’s internal records also indicates environmental contamination with Cronobacter sakazakii and the firm’s destruction of product due to the presence of Cronobacter.”

Abbott denies being the source of the outbreak.

New Yorkers have been dealing with a weeks longe shortage of baby formula products, leaving them scrambling to feed their babies.

The FDA was slow to respond to allegations of Abbott’s tainted baby formula products.

Baby formula is more than a canned commodity — it’s food for the most vulnerable. It requires the highest of standards and mandates the closest of inspections. Yes, babies’ lives depended and depend on it.

The CDC needs to reconsider making Cronobacter a nationwide reportable disease, so no illnesses are missing, and outbreaks figured out sooner so the product can be taken off the market in days instead of months. The FDA leadership has not been held to account for inadequate inspections and failing to act on the whistleblower warnings.

The FDA has essentially been silent on what it failed to do, but more importantly, what it plans to do to prevent the next Cronobacter outbreak. Instead, the FDA facing formula shortages, abdicates its responsibility to protect the public by letting parent know they are on their own with this thin gruel of a warning: “Those seeking access [to the formula] should consult with their healthcare provider in considering whether the benefit of consuming such product outweighs the potential risk of bacterial infection in the user’s particular circumstances.”
Baby formula is displayed on the shelves of a grocery store in Carmel, Ind., Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
The CDC must investigate and report Cronobacter bacteria cases as seriously as COVID-19 variant cases.

So, what can parents do to protect their children if the FDA will not?

Abbott says deal reached to restart baby formula plant

The Hill

Baby formula manufacturer Abbott Nutrition on Monday said it has reached an agreement with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on a path to restart operations at its Sturgis, Mich., plant.

The facility has been shuttered for more than three months while the FDA investigated whether powdered formula from the plant caused four babies to contract a rare bacterial illness. Two of them died, and a subsequent FDA inspection found unsanitary conditions at the plant.

Abbott said the FDA has not been able to definitively link its formula to the illnesses. The company said it has been making corrective improvements to address the FDA’s concerns.

Once the FDA confirms the initial requirements for startup have been met, Abbott said it could restart the site within two weeks.

The company did not immediately disclose what the requirements were, but added that the consent agreement needs to be cleared by a judge.

The Sturgis facility produces Similac, EleCare, Alimentum and several other of the top powdered formulas.

The shutdown has significantly worsened an already strained supply chain of infant formula and left parents scrambling, with many being forced to ration food or travel for hours to obtain formula. Retailers are also instituting purchasing limits to manage inventory.

It has hit the parents who rely on specialty formulas the hardest and Abbott said it would begin production of its specialty formulas first. However, formula from the shuttered plant won’t be on shelves until six to eight weeks after the plant restarts operations.

“Our number one priority is getting infants and families the high-quality formulas they need, and this is a major step toward re-opening our Sturgis facility so we can ease the nationwide formula shortage,” Robert B. Ford, chairman and chief executive officer of Abbott said in a statement.

“We know millions of parents and caregivers depend on us and we’re deeply sorry that our voluntary recall worsened the nationwide formula shortage.”

The Sturgis facility was shuttered after FDA inspectors said they observed significant food safety issues that risked contamination of formula, including five different strains of Cronobacter on the floor and on the wall.

Abbott says that while Cronobacter was found in the plant, genetic sequencing on the two available samples from ill infants did not match the strains found in the plant.

Four companies — Abbott, Reckitt Benckiser, Nestlé and Perrigo — control nearly 90 percent of the U.S. market for baby formula.

The White House has come under pressure in recent days from parents and lawmakers who are demanding action.

Republicans are largely centering their political attacks on the Biden administration. But both Democrats and Republicans are asking tough questions of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and raising concerns about the thoroughness of the agency’s food safety inspections.

At least two House committees are now investigating the shortages. Retail supply of formula has been spotty for months because of supply chain pressures and labor shortages, but many lawmakers have only recently begun to press FDA and the companies for answers.

Also Monday, the FDA issued guidance aimed at boosting imports of baby formula from abroad to stem the shortage. Companies need to apply with the FDA in order to be approved.

“The steps we are announcing today should continue to make a difference for families and we’ll be working overtime to get more formula on shelves,” a senior administration official said on a call with reporters Monday evening.

A rabbi, a Hindu priest, and a politician went on a hike
Night fell and they were exhausted. The hotel on the map was nowhere to be seen.
They knocked on the door of a farm and asked if they could spend the night.
The farmer said, “Of course, but I only have a small room with two beds. One of you will have to sleep in the barn.”
The Hindu priest said, “I need no material comforts. I will gladly take the barn.”
The rabbi and the politician were settling in when they heard a knock on the door. They opened it to find the Hindu priest standing there.
“So sorry, my friends, but there is a cow in the barn, and I cannot sleep beside such a holy animal.”
The rabbi said, “No problem, my brother. I’ll take the barn.

“So sorry, my friends, but there’s a pig in the barn, and I can’t sleep beside such a filthy animal.”

Permanent Democratic Majority: New Study Says Yes

By Thomas B. Edsall
May. 14, 2009, 05:12 AM EDT | Updated Dec. 6, 2017

A growing number of political scientists, analysts and strategists are making the case for a realignment of political power in the U.S. to a new Democratic majority based on two trends: 1) the increasing numbers of black and Hispanic voters, and 2) a decisive shift away from the Republican Party by the suburban and well-educated constituencies that once formed the backbone of the GOP.
Arguments supporting a Democratic realignment are based on well-researched population and voting data. Nonetheless, at a time when the economy remains in crisis and when international tensions are intensifying across the globe, any claim that Democratic (or Republican) ascendance is inevitable should be viewed with caution.

In a March, 2009 51-page paper [PDF] "New Progressive America: Twenty Years of Demographic, Geographic, and Attitudinal Changes Across the Country Herald a New Progressive Majority," Ruy Teixeira makes a strong case that "progressive arguments are in the ascendancy," that demographic and geographic "trends should take America down a very different road than has been traveled in the last eight years. A new progressive America is on the rise."
To further buttress his case, Teixeira has put together "a very cool interactive map that includes 7 levels of exit poll demographics and county-level vote shifts going back to 1988."
Teixeira is by no means alone. The New Republic's John Judis, who collaborated with Teixeira on the 2001 book The Emerging Democratic Majority, wrote an article titled "America The Liberal" the day after the November 4, 2008, election. Judis made a similarly well-argued case that the election of Obama "is the culmination of a Democratic realignment that began in the 1990s. ... The country is no longer 'America the conservative.' And, if Obama acts shrewdly to consolidate this new majority, we may soon be 'America the liberal'."

So, what.

We are living in the midst of another political realignment in American culture, society and parties. Things are changing faster and faster than they used to.

But that, in and of itself, doesn't prove it is a "Democrat plot".

American history has plenty of examples of new parties arising and realignments. What is occurring is nothing new over the long-run.

I would welcome a viable new party that can fit in somewhere between the two that are currently running the show.

With that said, it's idealistic to expect that our representatives actually represent those that they are sworn to serve.

Frankie! Frankie! I keep telling you you've been groomed by lefties to believe that Nazi's are far right wingers, but you still believe in that nonsense. Shame on you

Replacement theory is older than even you in the history of 20th Century left progressivism, being pushed at least since loathsome early racial eugenicists figures like leftist hero Margaret Sanger, Democrat KKK white supremacist politician Theodore Bilbo and others.

Whether it's stoking fear and division by chanting fear mongering slogans about plots by one race/ethnicity to replace another, racial purification by scientific means or openly bragging about their own devious plans to create a permanent political majority by racial/ethic means for their stated goal of political power supremacy, no one could hope to compete with the left.
