One friend on the Cape had a beautiful pool overlooking an estuary and that machine kept his quarter acre skeeter free.
In recent years I have used a monthly service that sprays the property (no fruit/veggie/flowering plants though). Start in April and end in October, the idea is preventive rather than situational. Gotta get a generation ahead of them bastids.
I keep one of those battery powered tennis racket zappers nearby though when having an evening cigar...
