As someone who came close to death last year due to these vector carrying little bastids, I am looking at options for combat. I spend about 2-3 hours each day on the patio with a cigar or two and just started seeing some this summer. AZ is not exactly a hot spot but seems to be getting worse and the monsoon months are coming soon.

Not interested in installing a screen room but I wonder how useful the electric bug zappers or other contraptions might work. I never have a problem in the pool as I think they avoid the chlorine water.

Any advise from you folks from the Midwest, South, etc?

Yeah, like I said this is not a hot spot but Phx metro area is now over 3 million and with the influx of snow birds came their desire to make it look like home. One skeeter is too much for me.

Growing up here we were more worried about a scorpion sting than skeeters. Scottsdale was then known as "the west's most western town" but now the joke is the west's most mid-western town.

Bug zappers and citronella candles are completely useless.

DEET is always your best bet. But also, they make those Off lanterns and those work well too. I've tried some of the botanical repellents and have had some success with them, but they don't last as long.

TW whacks them off...

I use the Deep Woods Off on my ankles but hate to cover all exposed skin with the stuff. Also have an overhead fan but prolly need to run it on a higher setting. Gonna check out the Coleman Off and Thermacell devices.

Watching the demise of a mosquito is rather satisfying.

The mosquito deleto works. I have used them for many years. For a patio you would only need 1. They are individually good for about 1/4 of an acre. At first you may need to empty the trap daily. As you decrease the population you will need to empty the trap less often. Run it 24/7. If you garage store it you will need to clean the jet in the spring. Spider webs from small spiders. I have no idea why.

I spray Bifenthrin on all verttical surfaces and the underside of all horizontal surfaces (including bushes/treesh/shrubs) monthly. Seems to help a lot.

DEET is the best, the downside being (alleged) having subpar medical outcomes.

Citronella candles work reasonably well. If you don't mind the smell of waxy, cheap vanilla. Any breeze nullifies its impact.

Got a blue insect zapper light from Costco. Kills mosquitos. But just the dumb ones.

Couple of larger gauged cigars help.

There is another wildcard. There is a subversive banana talk going about.
One faction say bananas draw mosquitoes.
The other group swears eating two bananas before going outside ward them off.

Or, eat three, learn the real answer, and get a side order of All Regular.

My brother has skeeters BAD in his back yard. He's tried several different solutions over the years. He finally has settled on Bifen I/T. Apparently this is what a lot of commercial control services use. He sprays it after each mowing.

Yup, and different varieties fly different distances but all of them cover hundreds of yards. Some many miles.

Dyna trap will kill the whole neighborhoods mosquito problem but I do get concerned about overkill with that thing. As I love my bats!
Thermacell is perfect for the deck, by the pool, the herf shed or strapped to your belt while you move around the yard. works great! Can't live without it in Jersey

Can’t speak to NJ Skeeters. Generally, I don’t say much about Green Bay mosquitoes. Once you get 90 minutes north of here, it gets serious.

Have seen skeeters in the UP of Michigan the size of newborn hummingbirds. Jurrasic Park chit. Once, the combo of those and biting flies just about drove me mad. Had seven or eight bloody sting marks on my head from Horse and Deer flies.

I can. They're awful. They have the worst accents and they all wind up on reality TV shows.

Actually, in New Jersey it's the biting flies. You get near a salt water marsh or near the beach and you need armor. They really hurt!

Do the NJ mosquitos all have long nails, permanent painted eyebrows, bow down to “Bruce”?

I live in a swamp in the midwest.

Even if I don't sit outside I get mosquito bites.

Spray is always on hand. 30% is enough. I used to think the 100% deet was best but it melts polymers and isn't anymore effective beyond that.

I have a lil handheld propane fueled hot fogger that I use around all the landscaping and stuff near my outdoor seating and it definitely helps, but still need spray.

I bought a propane machine with a net that claimed mosquito eradication up to an acre. I set it about 50ft from my deck and would catch mosquitos by the pound. Didn't notice a difference in bites. It's an attractant like the zappers so it draws em in. Taking out 10k when there's 10m in the area.

Bought a thermacell for camping and I think that is the best zone protection for small spots. No bug spray on my body and as long as I'm within a few feet of the thing they mostly leave me alone. If I use the fogger first and then fire up the thermacell I've got a skeeter free night.

I'm calling the punctuation hilariously correct, other than the lack of period at the end. Nobody wants a missed period.

In speaking the phrase aloud, there's no call for a pause or separation such as you would do with a list. Neither is there an independent nor introductory clause to separate.

One could try to rearrange the sentence structure along the lines of, "Off, ya can't beat it." However, that would do little to assuage our base interpretation of the wording.

The pest control company deployed these and there was a major curtailing of mosquitoes at the taproom within a week. They basically poison the female, and she takes the poison around to breeding sites, killing the larvae, then it kills her.
