Difficult to hate summer when the fishing is usually so much better... but San Diego is always 10-20 degrees cooler than where I am an hour northeast.

Here the dog days of summer can really make the fishing tough with the heat of the shallows and the thermocline of the deep.Fall the fish turn back on with a vengeance, crappie, whites and hybrids eat voraciously during this period.Winter kicks in and the blue cats gorge on shad making them prime deep water targets.Spring everything is catchable.............just have to pick your days wisely, the wind can be brutal in April and May

Anyway a bad day fishing is always better than a good day working

Ugh, 97 is brutal. It will be a nice day here. I intend on playing around in the garden, go for a scoot in the 68 Impala, go kayaking, and drink Rubios ice tea.

He's fed, I need to relax for a bit and then get some stuff done today.

Phfft! You *****s and your brutal temperatures. It's a great 78 this morning going to 104 here which is below seasonal norms with RH as low as 10%. I would love that all summer long but it won't last long. Expect 112 by the weekend and old Mother Nature has just gotta throw in a few 115+ days soon.

Loaded up the leftover patio supplies and returned them to menards. $200 back. Could barely move the flatbed cart into the building. 13 pavers and 15 bags of sand. About 600lbs.

Got home and realized I didn't take everything so 2nd trip happened for another $100.

Then wife wanted me to bring the sandbox back up by the house, so a third trip to menards happened to buy sand for the boy's sandbox and mulch for around the patio.

Pretty sure it's about 90° out and 90% humidity. Sweating does nothing but get you wet.

To the basement I go. It's dry and 60 something down there.

Danm, I would need a line item in the monthly budget just for Advil if I did half the stuff you do...

Another thing I did today was to upgrade my pitbike to a CVT. It's been my constant companion at all Gridlife events and other stuff to get me around without walking. But the centrifugal clutches only last about a year. Some last longer, some die sooner. The thing says 165lbs max and I'm 250 and there's a lot of hills I climb with it. I also tow a trailer around with a cooler on it to deliver food and drinks, probably a good 300lbs maybe more. Last event at night there were sparks spraying out from the clutch hub.

The boy decided he was gonna start riding the pitbike around the yard. He's gotten on it two or three times before, but either tips over to the side or the bike scoots out from under his butt. He's never moved more than a few feet on it.

Anyway, he was turning laps around the house on the pitbike and the clutch siezed up. I knew it was coming and had a replacement in my amazon cart but I got to thinking $30-40/year for new clutch vs $75 for a real transmission I should've done this sooner. CVT came in today and there's no instructions or anything. Just a box with a tranny in it. Had to chop up the minibike quite a bit to just get it to fit on the engine so I'm gonna need to pick up some steel tube to weld back in what I cut out. The sprocket that came with it was for a chain size that doesn't fit the sprocket on my rear wheel so I cut the sprocket off an old clutch and filed a keyway in it to fit and welded it to the drive side of the cvt. I didn't want to buy a new sprocket and chain.

But then my back gave out and I had to take a break. Probably won't do anything tomorrow, back to work Weds cant risk being laid up.

I blew out my back about 25 yrs ago and have had issues with sciatica ever since. When it would flare up it would make my whole leg would go numb all the way down to my toes. It would last weeks. Periodically I'd get a lighting bolt that would shoot down from my pelvis, through the ass cheek to my toes. Buckle over type of pain... Wowzers... take the breath out of you.

I would eat Advil, Aleve, Tylenol like candy when it would flare up. In talking with my primary care Doc about it, he said that was not the best way to go. It would eat my stomach inside out. He prescribed me a low dosage of amitriptyline. I take 25 mg pill 1x/day at night time. Since on it, I haven't had a major flare up. Can't attribute it to the med 100% though, part of the deal is that I'm more cognizant of lifting with the legs and not the back, doing stretchering exercises for my back and so on.

FORE! Uno NINE!

While me and the kid were out on our bikes earlier today I was almost got killed by a deer.

Just going for a ride down the rail trail - some of the abandoned rail road tracks in the area are now walking/hiking/biking trails,

I see out of the corner of my eye, something flittering around in the underbrush at the edge of the tree line (6 ft away). Larger than a dog... Maybe not dog, might be a dog, maybe a sunk (brain trying to process information).

BOING! Here comes a Doe. Hard stop front and rear breaks engaged, lean back so you don't go over the handlebars.

The thing almost T-boned me

Going to be a hot one at the shpo. High temp to be 97 with a heat index of 103. Yesterday wasn't terrible with 94/98.

There was one instance where I got into a car, closed the door and it didn't start right away. Pre-panic attack when I couldn't find the window roll-downer button.

Boss won't be in today. He'll be in Colorado attending a funeral. There was a sportscar rally which left Denver a few days ago and two guys died when their car left the road at a high rate of speed.

The popo estimated they were travelling in excess of 140 mph. Friends who were driving in a car behind told the boss they were going a lot faster than that, when the hit the bump and couldn't stick the landing.

Third day of covid. This is NOT just a cold for me. Wife and son have it too Makes sequestering MUCH easier.

I am on Paxlovid and an inhaler and am improving much aster than my wife and son, who are not taking any antivirals. The drug works fast.

I should feel fine within the next view days.

Ever have an EMG to measure the nerve damage, or an MRI to potentially show what's causing the pain?

Amitriptyline is some pretty heavy stuff. Why didn't he try Gabapentin first?

There are many safer drugs, which works real well for many people with sciatica. Chronic meds for pain should come from a pain management doc, IMO.

Oh boy! d'oh!

Glad to hear you’re recovering quickly.

Regarding your wife and son - are their symptoms milder than yours and that’s why they’re not taking anything?

AC now of course. Growing up in Phx in a three room house on the outskirts of town all we ever had was a window swamp cooler which worked pretty good if you were in that room and the RH was low. Unfortunately, swamp coolers are not effective if the RH is much above 50 so the second half of every summer was always miserable.

Most people had a breezeway or porch that could be used for sleeping and spent as much time as possible under large shade trees. We often slept outside if there was a breeze.

Think this is why my brain is cooked.

Right there with you. I was on the grill for 20 minutes making pizzas and had to shower immediately afterward.

I like the heat, 80-85 is my jam. And being cold is the absolute worst. I can not stand being even slightly cold. But air so thick you gotta chew before you inhale is uncomfortable.

I tried to go back in the garage about an hour ago and even sitting on my rolling stool and just doing light work on the pitbike with a fan blasting straight at me I had to give in and go back in the basement.

Am always running Memory Comps when I think it is too hot.
Remember living in a single wide trailer for a few years as a kid. Mid 90s with high humidity, only broken by loud and violent thunderstorms.

You know you are hot when you are willing to take the 20% chance of a tornado, just to beat the heat.
Stacking bailed hay in the hay mow in August is another memory which won’t leave me.

We are the same with cold. That first September day when it dips below 55, the gloves come out.

I’ll take a low humidity, 85 with a 5 mph breeze. Just enough to help the cigar smoke along on its journey.
