The Tar Babies.

Local (regional) college band from Madison.

Wisdom Drill at about the 22:00 mark on their No Contest album.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkDX9nv7GKU

Their Honey Bubble album was a favorite of mine too.

https://www.amazon.com/Honey-Bubble-Tar-Babies/dp/B000008LEE

I'm regretting selling vinyl collection for a buck a each.

A mixed CD of some great soul music:

I’ll Always Love My Mama - The Intruders
O’Jays - I Love Music
Wake Up Everybody - Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes

The O’Jays:
Family Reunion
Where Did We Go Wrong
Never Break Us Up
Use Ta Be My Girl

The Four Tops:
Keeper of theCastle
Ain’t No Woman (Like the One I Got)
Are You Man Enough?
I Just Can’t Get You Out of My Mind

Totally different experience through my stereo rather than in the car, boom box out in the garage or the tinny computer speakers.

Hall & Oates - The Essential Daryl Hall & John Oates

Although they wouldn’t hit the big time till the 80s, I’d been a fan of them well before then. First heard “Abandoned Luncheonette” a few months after it had been released while working in the good ol’ Holiday Mart Record Department. Didn’t, initially, care for their “new” sound after that but it eventually grew on me.

Muddy Waters - Fathers and Sons

Hard to pick a McKinley Morganfield favorite album but this has gotta be in my Top 5.

As an aside, wife went to the mall so cranked the volume up to 29 (…it’s a digital readout…). Not sure what the max number is but guessing 99 or whenever the amp clips or my speakers blowout. Presently it’s not wall shaking loud but from that bedroom with the door open, decently loud enough to reach the dining table (…30-ish feet away…). Maybe later I’ll bump it up past 30 and see if the neighbors approve of the sound level.

Probably not.

That's a good one, but my personal favorite is Hard Again with Johnny Winter, James Cotton, and Pinetop Perkins...

Allman Brothers - Closing of the Fillmore East - June 23, 1971 - from the Deluxe Edition of “Eat a Peach”

Bumped the volume up to 32. Not really comfortable to stay in the room. Fills the whole house with some Allman goodness! Closed a couple of doors so the neighbors don’t think I’m totally out of my mind.

Edit: notched it down to a more listenable 26. The thoughts of needing / wanting a bigger amp have been basically squelched as of today.

Al Green on Spotify

Apparently the app on my iPhone is set on Shuffle Play despite my efforts to disengage it. I may have to delete it and then reinstall to get it back to “normal”.

Edit: Deleting the app didn't work. Will have to devise Plan B.

Miles Davis - ‘Round About Midnight

While I was never a big Miles fan, never denied his talent, influence or importance in music history. First time actually listening to this album at home. All the other times would have been while working at the records store in the late 70s to early 80s so missed a lot of the details that I’m hearing now.

With a Little Help from My Friends - Joe Cocker

His rendition of "With a Little Help from My Friends" is better than the Beatles original version, in my opinion.

Probably even more so if you're on shoms or acid.
