Rained at least 3" last night. Incredible downpour. Now I have to drain the pool and possibly add a bag of salt to it to make up for the dilution due to the rain.

Appointment with a financial planner to get a second opinion about managing my niece's special needs trust. Hope I don't need to geta third opinion. But, whatever it takes...

Tonight, I will be attending a political hob-knob in Orlando to ask for people to straw-vote for someone I know who is running to be a judge. Surely, I won't be dressed like a lawyer because I GOT RID OF ALL MTY SUITS when I retired! Supposed to wear her campaign t-shirt to the event anyway, so it really doesn't matter. I am praying it is being held indoors because its usually like 95F this time of year. Never got this deeply involved for anyone who was running for judge who I supported. This is a new experience and I know I have to step-it up for tonight. Not looking forward to it at all..

Wife has Thursday off as usual and I hope we get to spend quality time together.

Hope you all have a GREAT day! Herfing

Just spent $1k on new garden planters for the wife. Basically livestock troughs but with open bottoms. 18" tall 24" deep and 8ft wide. Bought 4 of em to go around the deck where I'd built a wooden raised garden with landscape timbers and they rotted away pretty quickly. Hopefully these last longer. My initial plan was to set 4x4 posts in the ground and then put corrugated sheet steel between the posts to make the planters but the steel alone was $1500 and probably $500 for the posts and stuff.

I have over 100 lbs of Mesquite pods so Imma going to make bread.

"Part of the legume family, mesquite bean pods are known as the “southwest superfood.” Mesquite bean pods were relied on by American Indians as an important food source and are commonly dried and ground into mesquite flour."

Papago version of Dave's Killer bread.

I've seen people around here use the same thing. There's a community garden at one of the churches a few block away that did it this season in replacement of their older wooden raised beds.

Kids that attend the summer camp maintain the gardens and folks can come and pick the veggies and herbs if they want. They also a farmer's market during and at the end of the growing season for some extra cash and is a nice summer project for the kids. It's a cool thing they do and the kids do most of the work. Community garden, clean up trash at the town parks, groom some of the walking/bike paths that run around one of the local little lakes... stuff like that.

When I did raised beds at my previous house I used pressure treated 4x4 posts at the corners and at the mid span then used oak lumber from pallets between the posts. There are two businesses in town that make pallets and one and the next town over so there's usually a supply discarded pallets and trimmings. I'd stain the outside of the raised beds for aesthetics but other than that the oak was untreated and would rot out after a handful of year and needed to be replaced. No biggie, I had access to free discarded pallets and scrap wood so it didn't cost me anything other than sweat labor. The scrap oak made for nice fire pit burning too.

Now, as an apartment dweller, I'm using woven grow bags and set them on coasters to move them around as needed. They've been working out pretty well but require daily watering as the bags (being above ground and breathable) don't hold water as well compared to if the plants were grown in solid ground. I'm only doing tomatoes, peppers, beans, and cukes this year.

I read about this. Supposedly they are good eatin' when the pods are tender and young. Older pods can be dried and ground up are used for flour. Have you tried eating them when they are green and tender? Are they anything like normal fresh peas or beans?

We did sometimes nibble on them as kids but I really can't remember what they tasted like. They dry out on the tree before dropping. Going to have to find out exactly what part is edible but I'm pretty sure you can only eat the seeds which makes it much more time consuming making flour out of them.

Good afternoon.

New bedroom TV was delivered today. No more Firestick (but thank you Joel).

Have to go to Lowes to buy some lightbulbs.

Gonna get my pool water tested too.

Nothing else today.

Daughter and boyfriend, sadly for me, are moving to Detroit for boyfriend's new job with Rocket Mortgage (or one of its spin offs) So, I am driving down to Bocca Raton on Thursday to get them packed up. The next weekend we are moving my son down to Miami for law school. Ugh!!!

Glad it's Friday. Now let's burry this thread!!!
