OK, no magic, just a question. Apart from the obvious ISOM, which Cohiba brand do you folk enjoy most? The Yellow Band or the Red Dot? Do you taste a big difference? I realize the Yellow Band is soon to be defunct, and the Red Dot is more expensive, but which tastes better?

Having only tried the red dot I can't say either way. However, I was a devoted red dot fan until the Mayorga line surfaced and I prefer the entire line over any Cohiba including ISOM Cohiba's. Sorry if I busted your float but I am finding the Honduran and Nicaraguan line of cigars superior to premium DR's, and some Cugans.

I agree...One of these days, I'll buy a box of Mayorgas...What a great smoke...I enjoy Nicaraguans more than any other tobacco...Nicaraguan tobacco (at least for me) is closest in taste to Cuban tobacco...Course the Ashton VSGS (DR tobacco) are out of this world!...So maybe not!...They have to be my fav Non ISOM smoke yet!

I must agree with the last 2 posts. I too have become an avid Nicaraguan cigar lover. However, I must thank the man who changed my opinion of them and that was Melski. We like 'em Nicaraguan and Maduro!I haven't had one yet that has disappointed me. Some were a little mild for my tastes but as far as punch the Nic's win hands down. Mayorga's got a great thing going because as word spreads, their gonna sell ALOT of cigars. That to me is SMART business. They're affordable and very tasty. If they continue with their great quality control, they'll have me hooked for life!.....Brent

Can't speak on the Cohiba's have not tried one yet. But had my first Mayorga last night, (thanks to my friend, Slimboli). The only thing that cigar needs is a warning label stating this WARNING: WILL PRODUCE LARGE BLISTERS ON LIPS AND FINGER TIPS WHEN SMOKED TO THE NUB!!!! That has got to be the best smoke I've tried yet.

I find the red dot cohibas to be a far better smoke. Much more complex and fuller bodied. But WAY too expensive! IMHO, The (illegitimate) yellow bands are just that and not worth the money, although I can find them for $50 a box I prefer others. Mayorgas are a great, inexpensive and quality cigar. Nothing but Nics and Honds for me!

like everyone else, i have tried and enjoyed the red dot but it is high priced... Have not tried the yellow band just because i have not read anything good about them.... If someone gave me one i would definitely try it out and give my opinion (hint hint hint)....
p.s. - I thought this thread was about cohiba's ???

That's comparing apples and oranges. The red dot is a fine cigar, but not worth the price. The yellow band is poorly made and quite harsh, although it will mellow out after several months aging. Actually, both aren't worth the price, for different reasons. I agree with you guys about the Mayorgas. I bet it's just a matter of time before they go from $59 to $99.

The Red Dot is way too green to be that expensive. The Yellow band looks rustic, but tastes and burns better and costs next to nothing (about $2.50 average, per stick). In the $2.50 price range, I'd prefer the Mayorga, Maria Mancini, Jose Marti, Padron over these anytime. In the Red Dot range ($12 and up) you can just about buy anything and beat the Red Dot in value/taste!

I haven’t smoked too many of the NC Cohibas but think I’ve smoked the Red Dot the most.

The red dot can be a really good graham crackery kinda smoke or a harsh odd thing. I’ve had both. Still have quite a few cohiba. They’re decent smokes. Not close to msrp. I’m sure I’ve missed another but had about all of em except the blue
