In spite of Ray being correct (sweet Jesus, take me now for that statement) in the generation breakdown across the country, it is likely there's less pollution to charge an EV long term than drive IC.
The other part of Z's point, I believe, is the extraction process of things such as lithium and cobalt is incredibly damaging environmentally. Major issue in the overall scheme of things? Maybe not, though a few South American villages are hating your azz right now. But it will be if countries and companies continue to push this direction without finding a better way to battery.
Finally, while you get to skip oil and tune ups, Tesla was rated 27th out of 28 companies in reliability last year. Woo hoo, they managed to beat out Lincoln! For your sake, I hope you went with the Model 3. Repair costs are heading your way and Repairpal says costs are 27% higher than the average vehicle. How did Toyota and Honda get big? Reliability. How did Tesla get big? Green hype. Between this and higher initial cost of the vehicle, I don't buy into the savings argument currently.
You're happy with your choice. Good for you, but I'm just not ready to climb on board quite yet
As far as “ratings” go, take them with a grain of salt. Some firms actually rate German cars as reliable….good luck with that. And if you consider what can go wrong on an EV vs an ICE, well the odds are in my favor.
But the real elephant in the room is the whole idea of change.
Conservatives thought is that Change=Bad. Hell to some “Progressive” is some kind of insult.
Think about that - the clowns here, type it on a computer that did not even exist when we were young, saying progress is bad.
I can still remember those people raging about them new seat belts and how it was ruining ‘merca….
