In honor of MACS’ thread….

We are relocating from the San Francisco Bay Area to Houston Texas. The plan is to be there before the end of 2022. We will have lived here just over seven years.

Corporate relocation - all expenses paid. We are taking both our jobs with us.

Step 1: finish bathroom remodel job which was planned way before this came about and is way nicer than I would have done had we known this was coming.

Hey, don't honor me... I spent 31 years in that sinkhole. You only spent 7 and had corporate move you both times!

I'm not worthy... *bows repeatedly*

Seriously... good for you.

I did seven years in San Diego in the 90s also. Corporate move in and corporate move out! That time I went to Colorado for two years.

Electrical was the last two days. Had to put in an entire new breaker panel that was not planned. Plumbing is next.

Should've just stuck with a coat of paint. Electrical issues rarely pop up during a color change

Painting is in order before we move in. Also going to have the garage floor acid washed and epoxied.

Then look into artificial turf in da back yard.

Great move on the garage!

Removing the artificial turf? WTF Was that in the listing?

Artificial turf is big in this area right now. No water needed and very low maintenance although I have seen some have weed sprout right through the turf. Not sure it is good for dogs as I hear it is hot.

We had three corporate moves, nice, however, when we moved from Texas to here we received duplicate homeowner payments for twelve months. That was nice, ours finally sold as the payments ran out. At the closing, I had to pony up $17,500 just to get rid of the Texas house. Construction was done and the oil patch had dried up. If that wasn't bad enough, I found out that Westinghouse bought their employee's old homes.

Good point about dogs. My sister and BIL live in Apple Valley, CA and had it installed in their backyard, it looks great.

I would like to have it in my front yard but I would either have to cut down a huge mesquite tree or get some kind of industrial vacuum to keep the place cleaned up.

Probably NOT a good idea. Florida gets a chit-ton of rain and if you cover the ground with artificial turf you will loose all that surface area for drainage and percolation.

I wouldn't mind some turf, and some artificial trees to go with it

Blowers are great too. As a teenager, I had to hand pick leaves from white marble gravel in our backyard. I did try a house vac, too small and not enough suction, shop vacs were not a thing back then.

I had turf in my back yard in Temecula. Dog loved it and would go from sunning on it, to shade, back to sun.

Also... they dig up the grass, lay crushed rock and sand, then a weed barrier, and then the turf... and it drains just fine.

This will be our fifth corporate move.

Crew is here on a Saturday to move the plumbing.

We have a party starting at 4pm for the daughter. Going away party since she is moving to New York City to go back to college to become a physician assistant. I’ve got a catered taco bar and lots of beer, wine, and White Claws and that kind of crap that millennials drink. Back in the day we called it Zima and wine coolers.

Gonna be a busy day.

Tom does your Texas destination have to be Houston...........bout 400 miles farther northwest you'd be a lot happier and way less sticky in the summer.

Gotta be Houston but only a one year commitment. We plan to scout over towards Fredericksburg as maybe a longer term location but odds are long term we’re heading back to Florida.

Plumbing done. Framing getting done today. Inspection potentially tomorrow then drywall can go in. This remodel is going quicker than bathroom #1.

As soon as this bathroom remodel is done the for sale sign can go up. I figure scouting trips start in September.

No clue if we’ll be in a house or corporate housing or even in the same city on Thanksgiving. Gonna be complicated. May have to go to Boston Market.

Better not wait any longer. I just read California house prices declined 5% or so last month alone.

Month over month the median price dropped but year over year it is still up and varies widely by location. I got a cold call yesterday from someone wanting to buy my house. Prolly ChiCom investors.

Bay Area real estate doesn’t drop in value, it just pauses sometimes. Democrat NIMBY policies keep the area perpetually short of housing and expensive.

I gotta do some landscaping in the front yard. Need to use more water so we don’t ship it down to SoCal.
