I mean, there's always the chance that he was arguing that he had a legitimate claim to the stuff... I mean, they took his passport. Was that a national secret that had to be protected? Clearly the oval office was packed up and moved in a hasty fashion (his passports were in the damn boxes), but there were easy ways to compell compliance with the subpoena. Why didn't the judge order daily damages to begin acruing until the items were returned? Why didn't the team that went there in February take all the stuff that was so highly sensitive?

So many "whys" and all we got were 30-40 pages of redacted black ink...

this stuff that was haphazardly packed at the last minute (again, Trump ignoring the counsel of experts on his way out) and wasn't post cards, China and silverware.

As usual, I see your concerns and certainly would share in the fear of an overheated gov no matter if a supporter or not of its policies, but offensive slick TV production aside, have you allowed for the facts of what is happening and why to sift through?

Focusing on stuff like passports (actually 3 I heard!) that were swiftly returned is similar, to me, of focusing on the story of lunging for the driver that became the issue du jour for no strong reason.

There is unemotional info out as to what was recovered and when which set off alarms.

Robert is correct, he could have avoided all this...except I believe (once again) that this is what he wanted to happen.
I think he's always been exactly that person.

After this I'm not gonna say again...none of which means anyone will be charged with anything.

It doesn’t matter if anyone is charged.

The federal government is weaponized. It will be hard to put that genie back in the bottle.

Yes. It is: There is a federal law called the U.S. Presidential Records Act that requires the preservation of memos, letters, notes, emails, faxes and other written communications related to a president's official duties.

Any president who knowingly and intentionally removes and fails to return such items and other sensitive information and documents, and then fails to return them for months and months upon reasonable request, will have a federal judge review an application for a warrant to search and seize the items.

No doubt this was bad for everyone in our country. Doing nothing would have been worse. Thank your little boy DJT. All of this is on him and his folks. Boo hoo!

Yes, it is now saying we will prosecute criminals.

It used to be the left would get mad about the prosecution of criminals...

Oh how the tides have turned.

He should be charged with treason.

F*ck his base, let them start killing innocents, see how that works for them. He's a treasonous piece of sh*t, he should be treated like one...

Like I said, f*ck his base, that means a lot of you on here, f*ck you.

I'm sure past presidents didn't take anything classified...

Let's find out the WHAT and the WHY before we start lamenting over the doom and gloom.

Remember, the folks from the National Archives were in previously and didn't even take this stuff with them. They were welcomed back. Instead, the feds raided the party.
A justified warrant, I'm sure. But the over-reaction is eerily reminiscent of a previous dossier, etc.

The liberals are running out of dry panties.

I see some of you guys are cheering on the LEFTY Justice Dept and their FBI goons..well probably because you have raging LEFTY TDS.

Back in 2012, libertarian Jim Bovard wrote an article for the American Conservative titled "A Stasi for America
The FBI's long history of lawlessness" https://www.theamericanconservative.com/a-stasi-for-america/

Conservative writers included have from time to time since picked up on the word "Stasi" to describe the FBI's political antics as well as Faucian COVID policies.

Josh Hammer wrote an article this Aug. 12th titled...

American Stasi

Quote:
EXCERPT: Much has already been said and written about the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago that precipitated those sirens: "outrageous," "unprecedented," a "crossing of the Rubicon" moment. Regrettably, all of that is true. The siccing of the national law enforcement apparatus to execute a pre-dawn raid on a top partisan rival -- especially when that rival is the head of state's predecessor and perhaps-likely future opponent -- is a contemptible act of raw political bloodlust. It is an act far more befitting a crumbling hellhole like Venezuela, or a third-world country in sub-Saharan Africa, than it is the land that was to be, per Benjamin Franklin's alleged quip, "a republic, if you can keep it."

America, it seems, won the Cold War only to see its own federal law enforcement/national security apparatus morph into a version of the old East German Stasi -- and barely three decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall, to boot.

So you wanted the Stasi to confiscate Hillary's illegal server before she had it wiped and before she took a hammer to her Blackberry's. That wasn't going to happen, she was part of Obama's regime and his LEFTY STASI.

bgz tell me how a Secretary of State can DE-CLASSIFY things…..and tell me how more secure it is to have things on a server instead of two locks and keys. And then destroying items that are subpoenaed is cool. Yes you’re totally consistent I remember you posting multiple times on multiple threads daily and even posting threads hoping just to argue with guys who supported Hilldog.

Judge plans to appoint special master in Trump records case

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge in Florida told the Justice Department on Saturday to provide her with more specific information about the classified records removed from former President Donald Trump's Florida estate and said it was her “preliminary intent” to appoint a special master in the case.

The two-page order from U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon signals that she’s inclined to grant a request from Trump’s lawyers, who this week asked for the appointment of an independent special master to oversee the review the records taken from Mar-a-Lago and identify any that may be protected by executive privilege, and to ensure the return of any documents outside the scope of the search warrant.

The judge scheduled a Thursday hearing to discuss the matter further, suggesting the Justice Department will have a chance to raise objections to the judge's intentions. In other recent high-profile cases in which a special master has been appointed, the person has been a former judge.

Cannon also directed the Justice Department to file under seal with her more detailed descriptions of the material taken from Trump’s estate “specifying all property seized.” The former president’s lawyers have complained that investigators did not disclose enough information to them about what specific documents were removed when agents executed a search warrant on Aug. 8 to look for classified documents.

The special master appointment, if it happens, is unlikely to significantly affect the direction of the Justice Department investigation, though it’s possible an outside review of the documents could slow the probe down.

1. That's a far cry from ordering it thus far. Just watch how narrow the Order will be.
2. If, while searching in authorized places, they found additional items that he should not have taken, the scope of the warrant is irrelevant. Open view/plain view or the like....
3. I think a special master is fair as far as anything taken outside the scope of the warrant, but only as to personal/legal/
business items.

This started with the Russian Dossier and continued throughout the Trump presdidency.

Each time something "new" was aimed at Trump we heard how terrible it was and it was the end and he was going to jail or be impeached or banned from being president again.

If Trump took things he shouldn't then due process is in order.
It doesn't appear that he was hiding anything. He's worked with the feds and the national archives.
This could be an extension of that, or it could be tied to the Jan 6th circus.

There is so much liberal whining it feels like we've developed a severe case of National Tinnitus.

Difference between a cat and a comma?
A cat has claws at the end of its paws. A comma is a pause at the end of a clause

The malevolent DOJ is still persecuting Trump!

Even after he took the time to explain that he could declassify documents by thinking about it - they still insist he is a witch.

I heard they put a carrot on his nose…..

I heard Jack Smith (sounds like a name for a CIA operative huh?) is a WAR CRIMES prosecutor and has lived in the Netherlands since 2018 working as chief prosecutor in something called the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Lizard person Garland says Smith will "exercise independent prosecutorial judgment to decide whether charges should be brought" against Trump for insurrection war crimes of something else he'll make up. Since Trump announced his 2024 campaign for da Presidency, this has become an urgent matter signalled Garland. Wink
