I'm hosting a Golf Tournament next month and looking for some "affordable" cigars to buy in bulk. trying to find a decent smoke while keeping costs down as it's a charity tournament. probably looking for about 80 sticks.

TIA...

Are these guys cigar smokers or just “have a cigar occasionally while golfing” kinda guys?

I smoke a little of everything on the golf course but bring milder stuff in the event my homies wanna have a smoke with me

My friends that smoke with me really like baccarat Those may be looked at as “cheap”. Can be had around 4$ per. They don’t really smoke but everyone that doesn’t really smoke has told me they liked those the best and requested me to bring some more of the ones with cards on the band.

I like these for a quality and inexpensive bundle cigar.

They don't come with a flashy band though. Maybe you can get some custom bands printed up related to the charity/golf tournament. There are numerous places online where you can create your own bands.

Gurkha, you can get a cigar with a $99.95 MSRP but if you look around you’ll find them at upwards of 95% off. There’s also a place you can get bundles made by a name company with golfing themes at reasonable prices.

If they smoke full cigars the oliva melanio can easily be picked up in the 5-6 $ for robusto. I think just about every cigar smoker kinda sorta really likes those. They certainly would not come across as cheap. They got cigar of the year in the past. One of my all time favs.

Decent cigar, excellent construction, will last a long time and hold up to golf course abuse.
And they look pretty good.

They can be had for $4 or so…

In that vein, the Macanudo Hyde Park line might be something to consider too. Definitely mild enough for those that don’t normally smoke but, imho, enough flavor to satisfy those that occasionally partake. Guys who are already cigar smokers will bring their own so no need to worry about them.

Smaller cigars in ring gauge and length are the ticket. Coronas maybe.

Made the right call at mild cigars at an outing. The mistake was making them all 6 x 50 ring.

If it's a charity event, it may be worthwhile to go to a local shpo and see if they want to donate a box or two. The event can acknowledge the shpo name as a "cigar sponsor" so the shpo gets advertising in return for the donation.

Otherwise, what Conan said.

Coronas are a good idea. I take cigars to a 4th of July bbq every year. I've noticed that even robustos can be a bit too much for a lot of people.

Weird..
I work at a golf course…
Of the 15 or so regulars who smoke cigars……….not a single corona……….then again, they are regular cigar smokers as well.
Coronas, lanceros, and smaller ring gauges in general dont hold up well to golf course abuse imo.
Ymmv…

^ a agree there’s certain smokes that can’t handle being dropped two feet to the ground the wrapper gets all screwed up. Oliva O doesn’t stand up well as an example. It’s not that I’m not willing to bend all the way to the ground to put it down it’s just that I typically get at least mildly frustrated while golfing (think I learned to not rage out at this point). It’s just the nature of trying to do two things at one time. I smoke almost every time I golf. The only time I don’t is if it’s incredibly windy or incredibly hot

I assumed the corona suggestion was based on tolerance of the infrequent smoker. But yeah, wouldn't do well on the physical abuse end.

It’s this game where you try to hit a stationary small ball with a bent stick. If various weights and shapes 400 ish yards with some precision. Then when you get to this other area you have to hit it with a different bent stick that is supposed to then roll the ball up and down slopes , This time with great precision. For “fun”

As someone who hates when cigars fall apart on you when playing golf...

Thick maduro wrappers (or other stout wrappers)... try to keep the band on as long as possible.

As far as picking rockets for n00bs, I'm a bad person to ask.

Any advice heretofore given is limited to the context of bbqs. I do not know anything about golf.

I played a couple times when I was a teenager. I mostly just got drunk riding around on the cart. I remember the word "divet" or something like that because I could hit one of those a solid 20 yards or more. Pretty good for a newbie ...

Yes.

Less expense and angst when you see a half smoked one pitched in the tee box of the second hole.
