Fiat/Chrysler America's

Not even FCA anymore, it's Stellantis.

Not a good sign when your corporation is bought out by Fiat. Even worse when that conglomeration gets merged with the French automotive industry.

I'd probably consider a chinese or soviet car before a French one. And now one of the US "big three" is owned by the French. Only downhill from here.

Pronounce the brand Renault. It says it right in the name. Just like when someone asks if they should move to Fresno.

So the visit to the dealer with the truck went amazingly well. Stand by for a short story....

Call USAA for roadside assistance (parked in front of my house). Guy shows up in the tow truck, checks the battery... low voltage. Uses his jump start pack to get it started and checks the alternator... 14+ volts, good.

Tells me, "Don't turn it off... drive to the dealer and let them check it out". It's the battery.

Went to the dealer, drove up to the service advisor, she takes down my info and listens to the issue. While she is filling out the paperwork, we're chatting and I tell her I need the truck because we're a 1 car household at the moment and the wife and I have been looking. She assures me they'll get the battery replaced at no charge asap.

As I sit in the waiting area she comes over to me with another young lady (in sales) and says... this is Kiki, she's in sales... maybe we have something you're looking for. She asks what the wife wants and I tell her we've looked at small SUV's, the Venza, RAV4, Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, etc... she asks if she may want a Jeep Compass, uh... no thanks.

They had a 2020 RAV4 EXL Premium on the lot with only 9,158 miles on the Odometer. Huh... so how much ya want for it?

Turns out they wanted 3100 more than I wanted to pay, so I told the sales manager if he would agree to that same price AFTER Tax, Title and Tag... I'd go get him a cashier's check. After a brief how 'bout this / No, I gave you my terms... deal struck.

Momma has a dark grey 2020 RAV4 with all da bells and whistles.

So strange how a day that started out with an "Awwww, f--k" ended with our short search for momma's next car coming to an end and my "Awwww, f--k" moment being nothing but a battery covered under warranty.

Thanks...I'm super stoked...lots of bells and whistles with this one...Black with Tan leather interior...I opened the door before my wife and KNEW she was gonna love it. I closed it shut and asked her to come over and look at this one...sure enough her mouth opened and she looked at me with that "Can you believe this!" look. Went for a test drive and asked our saleslady if I could jump on it. She was like "Yeah...go for it!". The 3.0 V6 Eco Diesel was a big plus for me with this and man does it haul ass. It already has Rockstar rims and meaty off road tires custom lights and running boards. I don't think I'm going to be able to pry this away from her. It sure is nice.

edit...Thanks Ram! Also, MACS...happy wife happy life riiight?

Yessiree... and congrats to you as well, bro. I really hope you have a Wednesday Eco diesel... mine was problematic. Inside 25k was in the shop twice for the same issue (EGR emissions crap), but I had a 2018. Maybe they've fixed the EGR issues. Pray

Yes, congrats!

Wife and I have been on the lookout for a used Wrangler to leave at the mountain house for back roads in the mountains. Thinking the short wheelbase, maybe a lift for bad roads and 4 wheeling, maybe a Little Rock crawling. Saw one with less than 100K and never been on dirt but he wanted more than I want to spend on a truck that will sit most of the time.

I have owned 3 older Wranglers, 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees and 3 Toyota Land Cruiser F40s in my hunting and fishing days but nothing recently.

It has to be my remarkable boyish good looks and charm. LOL

Well, we know that ain't it... I dunno, man. Perhaps it was that I bought the truck new from a DCJR dealer and it was still under the factory warranty with only a shade over 26k miles in 2.5 years? I mean... 3y/36k they cover every-damn-thing.

After the 3 years or 36k it may have been a different story. They probably would have pro-rated the battery usage and charged me some.

My battery died at 28K miles on the CRV but it was past the 3 year mark. (covid times) I had AAA come out and replace it for $189, but then started thinking even a OE battery should last longer than that so I complained to the Honda rep and they sent me a $250 gift card good for any service or parts.

Wifey always wanted a Land Rover Discovery so I bought her one for her 50th birthday. Shortly after the warranty expired we started having all kinds of expensive problems. Things like window regulators at $500 a pop other electrical issues. Happy to be rid of it after 4-5 years. Only thing worse would be a French auto.

Our older son recently found a good used Cherokee, it was already lifted, had new large wheels/tires, and some other upgrades. Our son installed a special driveshaft needed for the lift kit, converted the rear axel to disk brakes, replaced everything on the front brakes, replaced the shocks that match the lift kit, replaced a cracked distributor, replaced the fuel injectors with an improved model, and installed a better sound system. The Cherokee will soon be his daily driver, his wife will get his Chevy Colorado, and our granddaughter will get our daughter inlaw's Rogue.

Land Rovers and Audi's are great cars...
When they work...
They are awesome rides and status symbols...

They exude...

"I have really made it...look at me you mere peon..."

But when they break???

Well $1,000 -$3,000 is the normal yearly upkeep on any
L.R.and Audi that is over 3 yrs old or over 50K in miles...
And
When they turn 5-7 yrs old ...it's $3,000-6,000 in repairs per yr or every 18 months..
That is WRITTEN IN STONE...
SAME FOR MERCEDES , BMW, JAGUAR, ROLLS ROYCE, ANY ITALIAN CAR...

IF YOU WANT A CHEAP RELIABLE CAR THAT EXUDES STATUS WITH CLASS...

BUY A LEXUS

HANDS DOWN...SOME GO 300K-400K miles with little or barely any big repairs ever...

Ask "the CAR WIZARD " ON YOUTUBE...

When I moved to Cali I sold my Ram 1500 and bought a Mazda CX-5. Great little SUV. That was my Silicon Valley commuter vehicle. It got upgraded to my BMW during ‘Rona.

Daughter just sold her Honda CRV when she moved to NYC.

There’s a lot of good vehicles in the small SUV category. Prolly not gonna go wrong with the Toyota.

I've had a Toyota, Hondas, Nissan, Geos, Infinitis, Lexus, Mercedes, RAMs... and my favorite by a long shot were the 2 Infinitis. Just my experience. Most fun to drive, reliable and zero issues.

Best handling car was the Mercedes. Too expensive to maintain and repair.

I test drove one when we were looking. It was fun, especially since the dealer let you take of on your own, but only came in gray. Wife wanted a shiny red one.

Even the Touring has some incredible balance and handling. Not a ton of pickup, but decent for the vehicle it is.
